The best part of all of this: the dev didn’t intend for it to be so notoriously difficult, and was shocked when it was one of the biggest criticisms from reviewers at launch (although the people loved it). He just simply wanted it to feel like you were part of an ecosystem with no unfair advantages, and it turns out that life without any cheat codes is really freaking difficult.

6:00 Most Rain World Lore videos are actually kinda... not very accurate, so I would recommend people to give the official wiki a read-through if they want to truly understand the lore. It has all of the dialog in the game, so you can just read through everything and come to your own conclusions rather than trusting somebody else's dubiously-sourced theories and speculation.

4:43 I honestly think Rain World is better for its lack of upgrades, and not just because it fosters more innovative and engaging gameplay. I mean, imagine if the slugcat got a double jump/dash/climbing ability/etc. Not only does it break the immersion of it being just another creature in the ecosystem (like you mentioned, it is not the “hero”, and it is not special), it actively takes away from what I consider the real progression system: skill/knowledge. Animals don’t randomly get upgrades like a pokemon, they don’t get spontaneous bursts of power like a level up-they have to earn their skills through time and effort and practice, just like the player does the more they play the game. To me, it trivializes the player’s growth. What was the point of learning all those movement techs if there’s some power-up that makes them obsolete? A display of skill to be proud of would become time wasted. In Rain World, it’s satisfying to see yourself move in ways you couldn’t before, because it means you’ve grown. In Hollow Knight, that satisfaction is diminished, because those movement abilities aren’t a reflection of your skill/knowledge (obv. the two games show skill expression in different ways, and I’m giving an extreme example by assuming any upgrade would immediately make any prior learned skills useless, but you get my point). - Someone who has never played Rain World

There is a good chance the next DLC will have a screen scroll feature. One of the DLC devs was previously working on a parallax scrolling mod that would be much easier to implement directly into the game than as a mod.

Rain world is one of a kind The ending for the dlc was meant to be rain world finally and it wrapped up everything But now we have a new dlc releasing on March 28 which will expand on the lore of the cycle

the dlc wasn't really meant to be a conclusion to rain world, it was a huge finished mod that got added to the game officially after years of the original devs not being able to update their own game, so its not necessarily the original developers true intentions, they didn't revise it nearly enough to call it their own work. that being said, its still a wonderful dlc worth playing! very excited for the watcher as well, itll be different in the sense that it's actually being directed by the original developers again

You can hear the weight of the water overhead as you begin to sink. you can hear the resonance of each cord building, like bells chiming in memory of you. You are lost, a small, wailing voice amidst the depths. to this day, after years of listening to this song and playing this game... i can't tell if your tiny voice is one of hope, or a dirge of despair. perhaps something in between. A timid sense of hope, or perhaps the undeniable drive to simply move forward... no matter where the road leads.

There are a few (well actually a lot, but there is only a few that do the job without making you "a hero with special abilities") QoL mods, like infinitespears mod, as there is an option to not make them infinite, but just a storage of spears, a smooth camera, (limited vision mod if you wanna contrast that) aim anywhere, a mod that allows you to eat bugs, ArtificerDontSwallow (its a mod just to make Artificer's crafting a little bit more *handy*) and simplified moveset, note, all those mods can be adjusted, to either just be lil QoL mods to not make you wanna kill yourself so badly, or to fully transform the REMIX into RELAX if yk what i mean

From being forced to waste my spear to plunge them into the void to me having to backtrack only for them to fall into the void to snatching my prey and fall into void or acid (basically a lot of them annoying me and falling into the void when I try to survive).

Not everyone wants to do the challenges that the community proposed in the official discord, as well as literally the movement tech are NOT necessary to play the game, so most won't use it, or use the smallest amount for quality of life, since why would they want to do a movement tech that allows them to fly using frame perfect inputs? They just want to kill a lizard faster and in style, or just move faster through the environment.

Bit late with this comment since just now KZbin decided to recommend you, but modders are equally passionate about this game, firts ever mod I downloaded? Scrolling camera that follows you. Many other quality of life stuff like making raindeers controllable while you ride one or making OSHA complant gates and shelters to avoid having them accidentally close to you and making you loose a tamed pet/item etc. Anyways, I subscribed.

After playing all the dlc I would recomend modding and if you do I would recommend rain meadow it’s a multiplayer mod that isn’t on the workshop you need to go into the files do download it but it’s worth it because the discord server has some cool people to play with so yea

I find the camera not following you to be part of the immersion. It adds to the sense that you're not the main character of this world - you're another creature like everything else. Plus losing sight of yourself in the corner of the screen makes you feel so... small. This game is full of inconveniences that you're forced to adapt around, and after a lot of time in the game you start to remember where certain predators tend to hang out and all the small signs that one might be near (the dynamic threat music helps too). The only progression you take with you between deaths is your own knowledge, and I think the game is a lot stronger for not sprinkling upgrades along your path. If there were required items to collect, you would then be funnelled into completing the game in a specific order (which happens in some of the Downpour campaigns, but I mind it less because those are very story-driven, whereas the initial playthrough is just blind exploration until you stumble upon something important).

Very very well said, I definitely don't mind the camera movement (or lack thereof) nearly as much now as I did in the start. And I totally agree with the upgrades not being there, although I reckon the movement tech could be considered the upgrades. You get so much better at the game by teaching yourself how to be better. It's really incredible, I just think if there were a few more pointers towards figuring it out it'd be helpful

@Metshu Learning Rain World movement tech is really an unparalleled experience, I agree that I wish the game gave more hints for those of us who don't want to spoil the game by looking things up, but I'm also not sure how that could've been implemented. I almost get the vibe that the average slugcat only uses the basic movement, and you are developing an unprecendented level of agility for the species by teaching yourself to slide and roll around the map through endless iterations.

Maybe once you get to five pebbles he could taunt you or something saying how you're not even making use of your natural abilities. I feel like that is a worthwhile reward making it that far. Or maybe moon could demonstrate some movement or something and motion for you to imitate. Regardless a difficult situation.

I've watched a shit ton on KZbin but this is my first ever play through and this is the route I've gone. Pebbles first to get the dialogue pixel. Back down to outskirts at the beginning.
