If a game is not accessible for purchase officially, why would I buy a used copy instead of pirating it? The money still wouldn't go towards the people who made the product but to some random person who bought it while it was available for purchase. At that point, the company behind the game doesn't care what I do. They wouldn't profit off of me anyway.
@NottJoeyOfficial
@NottJoeyOfficial 4 сағат бұрын
Even for current stuff, I buy used as much as possible. In that case there's still no difference, so it's funny to me when people treat modern things different from retro things in terms of piracy. If I'm not gonna buy it brand new, there's no difference.
@タカトー年1998
@タカトー年1998 3 сағат бұрын
@ There are other reasons to buy stuff used. For example, as long as the product is readily available it's usually cheaper to buy stuff used. But the company doesn't care either way. They won't profit from your decision anyway. And at that point I'm not gonna waste my money on retro games which usually cost over 100 bucks. And if my money doesn't even remotely reach the people who created the game why should I buy the product used instead of just playing it for free?

I think what frustrates me about the NSO subscription is that back in 2012, people were begging Nintendo to stop Virtual Console and go to a "Netflix-like subscription service" for their retro games. People thought I was crazy for saying that was a bad idea. Well now they did it, and you can't buy their old games anymore.

Yeah a bit of a bummer but that’s okay. A subscription containing a Huge Quality Library with no extra cost is a good method though. It’s better than buying one buy one. I’m been a NSO member since 2019 & I like the service. The online play performance is fine from my experience, I often use speedtest to experiment where my WiFi’s performance is at its best to avoid less lag. The NSO app on IOS/Android gives you voice chat & and more community content for some games too like videos screenshots etc. it also gives you voice chat since the switch doesn’t have a microphone. The Library of older games is awesome & there’s a lot of games for you & your friends to sink your teeth in. I often play Super Mario All Stars Mario Kart Super Circuit & Kirby & the Amazing Mirror with my friend. There’s a few extra Offerings for a few games. Although maybe Nintendo should touch on that again at some point perhaps. The subscription can be auto renewed by saving your Payment info under the condition that you are 18 Years old.

Piracy is not theft I cant believe anyone still thinks this its the developers responsibility to prevent piracy of new games all devs have lost to piracy is the potential of having a customer who knows if that person would buy the game if piracy wasn't available theft is generally defined as the loss of a physical good due to someone taking it without permission if someone stole a pallet of physical games it would be theft you cannot steal a file there isn't anything they lose by a person copying a file without authorization but a potential customer

"Piracy is a service problem" is a semi true statement in context with a good chunk of the world, visit any third world country and it quickly becomes a money problem, these are places where piracy has been the culture for decades and unless you are pretty well off you are introduced to it at an early age also stuff like regional pricing on any platform does not help it as it is at best mediocre, games cost as much as peoples monthly salaries. But then again those people were not potential customers to begin with so it doesn't affect sales either way.

I recently bought far cry 3 on steam for very cheap. Every time I opened the map, the game would stop and try to connect to the servers, which are offline. This was fatal to my experience, so I refunded the game and pirated it, with the entire online aspect removed. No more stopping the game to try and connect to the offline servers.

Well, once upon a time...this has been the case. There is a reason why the market basically consists of either mostly modern flops, indies (which are most strongly retro inspired) or remakes of retro games. Because people who created oldschool games actually cared. And almost everyone instinctively feels this. Hollow Knight is hugely popular and in terms of gameplay it's basically just a modern Metroid game.

I played Tales of Rebirth with that translation patch. I also bought Tales of Arise and Tales of Graces f Remastered on day 1 on Steam. You can fill in the blank.

The price of Xenoblade on Wii dropped after the initial shooting up in price is because GameStop was being scummy lol. For some reason, they had the rights to reprint copies of the game. They decided to take advantage of the huge price by printing new ones and selling them as used for those inflated prices. People caught on to what was happening and the price dropped hard.

@2:01 Why do you highlight a current gen machine with all it's software (bar 2 games) available, as a target for piracy due to availability? Kind of a disingenuous example no? I hardly think the switch piracy scene exists due to Super Mario 3d All-Stars? There is an aspect of piracy no one wants to talk about, which is folks enjoying getting things for free. I purchase and pirate games depending on the situation, so don't think I'm immune to this or somehow morally posturing. It's very simple, if you want to get taken down by nintendo- do one of these two things; 1.) Host pirated materials 2.) Include propitiatory code or keys in your emulation software Modern pirates are just ruining it for everyone by being quite dumb about how they do things. Be smarter people.

If it wasn't for "copies" of Mass Effect 1 & 2 on PC floating around circa 2013 that let me try the games before dropping my Dollarydoos on them; I would never have bought the Humble Origin Bundle 2 (ME1/2 on Origin & Steam), ME3 on Origin, the DLC for ME2 & ME3 on Origin, ME: Andromeda on Origin at full-retail *on launch,* ME3 and Andromeda at *full-retail* on their Steam releases *and* the Legendary Edition on Steam at *full-retail on launch.* Hell, if it wasn't for those "copies" I likely would never have found a franchise I love (warts and all, Andromeda) such I'm excited for the upcoming fifth game in the series. Being on a Fixed Low Income disability pension (that is below the Minimum Wage of about $20 AUD/hour), I have to either find "copies" of games that interest me before spending my limited funds, or pray to The Nine that I can get the game at a solid discount on a Steam Sale and go in blind to the game, because the Dollarydoo goes far *far* less than the Freedom Eagle does.

Hmm... should I pay Nintendo a subscription of $50 a year so I can play a select few titles of nes, snes, Gameboy, Nintendo 64, Gameboy advanced, and sega genesis games only on a nintendo switch. Or should I download a rom of any game I can think of available for those systems for free, get to keep it forever on my personal storage, and get to play it on multiple devices that can run an emulator like a smartphone which is even more portable than a switch. I wonder... I always wished these companies would just give in and just sell roms themselves. It's really the only logical way to combat piracy.

Piracy isn't theft it's copy right infringement. Copying things isn't theft because nothing is lost. That's like saying opening up a book then writing down the words on every page at Barnes and noble is theft. It isn't but it's weird to do. But yes I agree. I don't pirate games I could easily buy and I definitely don't pirate indie games. If I pirate it's because it's too hard to access the original game in a convenient method that isn't riddled with issues.

This is because they'd need to sue millions of people and it's just not really worth their time. Heck even removing the platforms isn't very effective due to how many people still make pirate platforms. Granted I'd never be crazy enough to make a platform for doing said action but.. you're fairly unlikely to get in trouble for pirating yourself. I personally don't tho.
