The lens need to be carefully cut loose by using a knife and working around to get he black goop loose , I didn't cover that part throughly . A second pair of hands may help a little . The lens cost were $35 compared to no less than over $300 plus for a new pair headlights . This is not as hard as it looks , it seems like a lot but is quite simple and as of yet no problems with mine sealing the silicone works great.

Thanks for putting this up, It helped a lot. On my 6 the bumper was held on by 2 10 ml bolts instead of the phillips screws but other than that it was exactly the same. Looks so much better now.

Thank you for the great feedback . I remember feeling exactly the same way , I couldn't believe how much better they looked and made the car look. Very inexpensive compared to the light assembly . Great job on fixing these and thanks for watching .

Nice work - in canada the complete light assemblies are around $900 for a pair - the covers cost $35 on wish.

Yes . I really wish that other headlights on other models offered this option. Not only is it way cheaper but sometimes with the aftermarket the quality of the headlight unit may not be the same . You don't have that worry here because just the lens is being replaced. I never had a single issue after sealing the healight with silicone either. Great job on tackling this yourself and thank you for watching.

@@s33therfan Just did the swap out - new lenses are way clearer and I popped in some Osram night breaker H1s for the low and high beams while the lights were out. Looking forward to the dark! Also if anyone is struggling getting the lenses off - take all the bulbs out and pop the headlight in the oven at 325F for 10 mins. Sounds weird but it softens the black goo and you can just pull the lens off. Once you have swapped all the bits into the new lens, pop the base unit back in the oven for 5 mins, press the new lens into the goo, put the clips on and then another 5 mins in the oven for the whole thing. That will reseat the lens cover in the goo. I still added a bead of marine sealant round the outside in the gap afterwards.

The metal screws holding the top of the bumper snapped clean off, also one of the bolts holding the headlight to the car just kept turning so I ended up snapping the lower screw off because there wasn’t enough room to use vice grips on the other end because the AC lines were in the way....Gotta love the salt belt 🙀

I have same problem with spinning rusty bolt like you. I can't manage to hold it with anything on other side , because of lack of space behind the light. It is upper bolt there where is under another bolt - under high beam. Ehhh my rusty Mazda what I'm going to do with you?

Doing this without a heat gun is a good chance you're going to break the light. If you cook it for about 10 minutes with a heat gun it just comes right apart. Personally I think the whole project is an abortion and you can get good used ones for for about 300 I've even seen them for Less

I cannot remember exactly but I think around 6 or so. The screws are no issue the time consuming part is just cutting through the black sealant. But the best I remember I spent a couple hours . It was well worth the results they made the car look amazing. Thank you for watching

How has this held up? Just bought an 07 and need to do this badly
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 жыл бұрын
It's held up great . The most tedious part is removal of the lens . They use a black sticky type adhesive kinda like tar. You have to take your time and cut it carefully all around with a knife blade . Once it's cut loose it's easy from there just a matter of swapping stuff over to the new lens . I used clear silicone to seal them back and no leaks or condensation whatsover . They also absolutely look new . I wish they had replacement lens for all headlights . I will say with some though the price isn't too bad but for these Mazda 6 they were around 170 each when I looked . Besides looking way better the visibility improved too . So yes I'm very happy with this project. These lens are identical to the factory version and I'm assuming the same ones they used on assembly . Thanks for watching

s33therfan I am going to wait until spring to do mine because winter is harsh I’m sure and I want it to be warm so the glue sets I am just using motor oil on them right now😂 looks brand new for about a month even with rain and the lights are so much brighter I discovered this when I checked my oil and a drop hit the headlight from the dipstick when I was checking I didn’t notice it until later and it had soaked into the headlight and made it look new so I decided to get some leftover oil from an oil change and do them all the way and it works for now
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 жыл бұрын
Yes that oil and other methods like toothpaste etc actually works temporarily, kinda similar for most of the restore kits ,definitely an improvement . After ordering these lens I think I stared at them about a week before I ever got started on them , but it went a lot smoother than I thought , I was more concerned with sealing it back properly but apparently wasn't a problem . Thanks again

s33therfan resealing properly and doing it without a single speck of dirt or hair or a finger print etc. is what worries me I would have to take it apart again if there was a single speck because once I put effort into something I gotta make it perfect otherwise I won’t be able to sleep at night it’ll be all I can think about

I just carefully used a box cutter around the perimeter. I have also heard others using a heat gun carefully and briefly just to get the sticky glue to break loose. The knife worked great for me but make sure the screws are removed as well. Hope this helps and thank you for watching.

I just used a flat screw driver, putty knife and box cutter. Later on a differemt car I used a heat gun that helped. However you have to be careful with the heat gun because it will start melting the housing . Start with a low setting. Thanks for the feedback.
