Sunak became Britain's prime minister on Tuesday, seven weeks after Liz Truss took over the reins from Boris Johnson.

I’m not sure I would want someone ‘in charge’ who’s concerned about their next mortgage payment or getting their car though its MOT or fretting over the cost of childcare. Running a country demands the least possible distractions from the task in hand. I once took on a director who I later found to be riddled with debt. It showed on his performance and his every decision. Had to get rid in the end - his mind was ‘elsewhere’ and not focused truly on the business. I hope Rishi’s relatively comfortable position helps him get the job done.
