PLEASE talk about the gender equality in the Rwandan Govt! They're in the top 5 of the most gender equal countries in the world! More than 50% of their elected representatives are women, and 30% of the govt seats have to be held by women, they have an entire government department for women's equality.

Rwanda is definitely on the right track. I've come to understand that conservation only works when people see conservation as profitable or beneficial TO THEM (not necessarily to the animals). Yeah, I think that's pretty backwards, but there you go. Rwanda is showing that this mentality works-- show the community how these animals are worth more alive than dead, and how conserving these animals isn't just good business, it's money for THEM. We can totally do that here in the US. We actually have already started in the Pacific Northwest with whale watching tours. Before the 1960s and 1970s, orcas were considered only good for target practice by the Navy (I wish I was kidding). But now, thanks to popularity that started with marine parks and then shifting to whale watching tours, we've shown orca conservation is worth its weight in gold. Now people pay good money to see them in their natural environment, and marvel at them. To quote our wonderful guide Isaac: "Amazing."

what do you know about my country?
@Nygaard23 жыл бұрын
@@kylexy2901 Do you mean Rwanda? Not much. I know that it has suffered from the classic combination of European colonialism and religious influence and outdated African tribalism/nationalism, like so many other places in Africa, but I don't know many details.

@@kylexy2901 What "Western media"? Why do you think I haven't asked people who visited it? My main pessimism regarding Africa comes from talking to my African friends, who are a pretty good spread of nationalities (though, no Rwandans) - being from Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa. But if you say I'm wrong about Rwanda - then tell me what I got wrong.

I have always heard just how beautiful Rwanda and Uganda are from in-laws that were born there (prior to being expelled by the dictators in the 1960s). However, I will always remember the CNN videos of people being hunted in Kigali and reading the book by Philip Gourevich. I'm glad it's giving the West a better view of what they are today, to wash as much of the misconception away.

I thought about so many forms of mental illness: dominating, subjugating, manipulating... and then I said the WORST was ACCOMODATING! IT's the most common and tragic form of mental illness. Playing along with those in power is the WORST! They all played along with you... So Isaac was just pretending to be whatever you wanted Sam. He PUT ON A SHOW for you. Don't get angry at me or this guy who's clearly not named Isaac, as that's just a show. Not saying they sell animal parts for money, but HONESTLY how would you know from this. _some of them do... but it's it's getting better over time_ BOOP! Ah so worried about getting cancelled? They have no other original content to cut. Literally , original Turner Broadcasting content is YOU. Granted AT&T is quite an ungainly amalgam of unfortunately optimistic projections, FLUSH with DEBT, but people want to see you. That Sam doesn't realize how dumb the institution that signs her checks is.... Oh, she knows. Expect the show to end soon... and find Samantha Bee somewhere else!!! Nothing to do with the quality of your team's products. This is an insane problem of AT&T madly leveraged... it's a back-office issue. I really liked/appreciated your show. Watched every episode, but my eyes are not enough to keep the show running. Sorry I don't have enough eyes--if only I was a Russian Oligarch, you'd be secure at AT&T.
