He also was commenting on reddit asking 'whats that song with the lyrics...' to get people to search for it. Here in the UK, people are blowing up quick if they know about marketing. I agree with all of these, but I think ‘image privileged’ also plays a role. A lot of dudes that sell the gangster rapper image look like gangsters, with visible tattoos, chains, grills, ect. I understand what you are saying, but in the grand scheme of things Lil Nas X did come out of nowhere. Comparing him to other upcoming artists with similar successes in the same time period (like a Lil Baby, DaBaby, Roddy Ricch, Meg thee Stallion), Lil Nas X was relatively unknown and didn't have much music out like these other artists did. We watched the others grow and transform there sounds while we only know Lil Nas from Old Town Road

Bobby Shrmurda is about to be the King of New York and was scorching hot before he went to prison. Lil Nas X has the biggest song in modern history and has other records that are poppin like Panini Trinidad James is a Grammy Winner and is doing quite well in the sneaker head business with Complex Desiigner isn’t dead in the water because he can still catch the Brooklyn drill wave Fetty Wap has at least four top ten singles, so he’ll be able to perform them records forever and that’s that. I’m not trying to be a contrarian, but your examples are not good for what you’re talking about. I usually agree with your stuff, but this vid beyond questionable.

With all of these rappers, they all had a smash hit song at the beginning that they will be chasing the success of their entire career. Purely talking about numbers & cultural impact, these will most likely be their highest grossing and longest charting singles of their careers. And since they did this at the start of their career, it will be hard to replicate that same success.

Both of them are huge within hip hop and popular culture as of this post. The other three definitely have a steeper hill to climb, because they all seem to have all but disappeared musically.
