In the least surprising news of all time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been announced by FIFA as the sole hosts of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, having won the right to host the World Cup unopposed.
Whether it be FIFA spreading the 2030 World Cup over three continents, changing their own rules regarding stadiums, or bringing forward the bidding deadline by three years, everything appears to have been set-up to gift Saudi Arabia the World Cup in 2034.
So in this video, from backroom deals with tiny island nations to mega sponsorship deals, HITC Sevens takes a look at how Saudi Arabia bought the world of football, and with it the FIFA World Cup.

We were all mocking FIFA when Sepp Blatter was President for being so corrupt but we never expected Infantino to actually beat him outright in corruption. Like right out in the open kind of stuff.

While Blatter was an old school "under the table" type of corrupt administrator, Infantino legalized corrupt, unethical procedures so he can do his thing out in the open. He is the Silvio Berlusconi of global football.

@@NASMOHZER First of all, 2026 has 3 hosts, not just the US. 2nd, CONCACAF last hosted in 1994, which means they're eligible to host an upcoming World Cup. Thirdly, this video itself already explained why the Saudi Arabia bid is corrupt. Now, you tell me why you think the 2026 bid is corrupt. Show some evidence instead of just saying "it's because of USA."

Because most people simply don't care. Just look at the 2022 wc. There are so many people who consider it as the best wc because most " Football fans" (if you even can call them that) are just kids who simply have no understanding of football culture and simply want to see mbappe and messi and huge amounts of money. That's exactly the reason why in almost all big leagues except for the bundesliga most teams are controlled by huge investors and don't even have a real fanbase

@rstein926
@rstein926 11 ай бұрын
The chief reason Europe and South America have hosted the majority of World Cups until 2002 is because football while the world's popular sport isn't actually popular worldwide. Like all sports football is popular in select nations. For example football is mostly popular in Europe and South America (Mostly Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Columbia). Only a handful of countries in other continents is football the most popular sport. For example Mexico is the only main NA country where football is the no.1 sport while in the US it is American football & Canada ice hockey. Similarly only a few African and Asian countries like Morocco, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Qatar is football the no 1 sport. South Africa is chiefly cricket and especially rugby. In fact South Africa is one of the few countries that has hosted a WC despite it not being a football nation. Australia and New Zealand aren't big football countries although many Australian footballers play in Europe especially the UK. Aussie Rules and Rugby are the two no.1 sports in Australia and New Zealand respectively. Europe is the only continent where nearly every country follows football. Only a speck of countries like Lithuania and Wales don't have football as their no.1 sport. Lithuania's sport is basketball and rugby in Wales. To an extent the same could apply to Ireland with rugby and Gaelic football the two main sports with football third.

He demonstrates an unbelievable level of knowledge, decency and courage, and is never deflected from telling the truth, even when history shows us that he may be putting himself in a dangerous position by doing so. As a fervent supporter of LGBT+ causes in particular, (and human rights/social justice more widely), I am lost in admiration for his fearlessness and integrity, especially in the context of one so young. Long may it continue, and I really hope Alfie gets some official recognition sometimes down the road.

I'm getting turned off sport in general by all this stuff. The PIF want to invest $5bil in the IPL as well, so before you know it world cricket will turn into baseball where everything happens in one country for 8 months of the year and everywhere else is just developmental for that one competition. At least baseball started like that instead of being forced into that though. World Rugby and the corporate idiots mostly in England continue to keep developing nations out by closing off competitions when the likes of Georgia, Fiji, Uruguay etc are clearly deserving. And then people have the gall to say sport and politics shouldn't mix when clearly these days top level sport literally is just politics.

Hmmm, you were all good until you bought Eddie Howe into it. As far as I'm aware, his only "weasel words" can be summarised as "None of my business, I'm just here to manage the football side of Newcastle United, leave me out of it". I get having a problem with the Saudis. I get the over focus on NUFC (who have zero votes on the relevant bodies), but having a go at a bloke for doing his job and not questioning his (and your) paymasters? Not cool.

In my opinion the FIFA World Cup we know and love is ruined. Any wise or sane person would tell you that the United States is more than big enough to host the WC alone, but no FIFA want it held in the whole of North America and likewise with the 2030 edition to be held in South America to mark the 100th 'birthday' of the WC. But again FIFA disagree and decide to implant the edition across three continents (South America, Africa & Europe). The most fair and logical thing that could had happened was to have the winning bid host the 2030 edition and the losing bid the 2034 edition like how Paris and LA fought to host the 2024 Olympics agreed to have Paris host that one and LA 2028. But no Saudi Arabia obviously bribed FIFA to ensure they get the 2034 edition. And to make things worse the 2038 edition will likely be in the USA only 12 years after hosting because although Australia could co host with NZ, the fact they are forbidden to as they part of the Asian conferdiation is the only major obstacle, unless FIFA bend the rules which is unlikely. So it won't be until 2042, Australia can host at least or even 2046 as Europe, Africa and South America will be at 'war' on who hosts that edition.

Because Australia pulled out after they realised, they would not get any support from the AFC or FIFA. FIFA also brought the deadline to submitting a bid forward so Australia really didn't get a chance or time to properly prepare a bid. They knew it was rigged in favour of Saudi Arabia and decided not to waste money on a bid that was unlikely to succeed.

So the 2030 World Cup will take place in 3 continents in 6 countries, then 2034 goes back to a single country that didn't have any other Nations bid against them (naturally leads us all thinking the same thing). As he mentioned, 2026 & 2030 World cups will take place in 9 countries on 4 Continents. Before this was announced I thought we were heading towards World Cup literally taking place all over the world. 2026 begins 48 nations competing they could have 2 group stages/ 8 nations take place on each continent. FIFA could choose the nations to host group stages, and then main bid becomes for knockout stages. Imagine how many more envelopes they could collect & destroy any integrity they have left! Or do they have any? What if some other organization is formed and creates their own tournament, and countries turn back on FIFA and join them. Basically like the Superleague idea but are opposite of what that represents, and has integrity, no bribery, & is more appealing for Countries around the world. No this isn't likely to happen and is just a dream to think an organization operates honestly and by rules/laws. Won't happen in our lifetimes, Maybe young kids witness it many years from now? And did he say Saudi Arabia wants to host a Women's World Cup ? 🤣🤣🤣

The origins and rise in popularity of association football were absolutely entrenched in the political struggles of the working class everywhere. Impossible. UEFA is still being a hostage for four dictatorships: Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan. They want to stay in UEFA for money, but at the same time they share autocratic backgrounds with many nations in Asia and Africa. It's the same four nations that backed Saudi Arabia to win the bid because they are both anti-democracy. Any UEFA's attempt to secede from UEFA can only be done if both four of them are expelled.

It is the result of how we capitulated ourselves to greed. If UEFA can grant membership for despotic Kazakhstan back in 2002 that, by 2023, still imprisons and represses dissidents and flirts with dictators, then we can do nothing when Saudi Arabia won the 2034 bid especially when Saudi Arabia is far more powerful than Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan serves as the playbook to what to be next and we let it to happen, the Central Asian nation is the first example of how modern sportswashing could be. Kazakhstan has used both gas and oil money exploited from the Caspian Sea to bribe and corrupt UEFA members to stay permanently, while caring nothing about football; their shock 2024 Euro qualifying forms is not because they have any long term strategy, but rather pure lucks surprisingly spread out for them, Kazakhstan’s stadiums are majority abysmal and their grassroot structure is poor. Saudi Arabia is aware of it, they saw how Kazakhstan successfully corrupted football, and with the vast oil they have underground, they exploit it. They are also benefited from staying inside the authoritarian AFC (which Kazakhstan should have been), and now Saudi Arabia is having what they wanted. If UEFA wants to redeem, and maybe FIFA need to redeem, we should have done things differently. We should have rejected Kazakhstan’s UEFA membership as the mean to prevent Saudi Arabia from doing the same. It is too late now.

Kazakhstan is partly in Europe, a former member of the USSR and has a large Russian Population. All of which where grounds to admit Kazakhstan into UEFA. And before one starts, I would add that Russia, Belarus & Azerbaijan are currently members of UEFA. As was the USSR, other Eastern European Nations, Spain, Portugal & Greece (all of whom where Dictatorships) during the Cold War as well. So yeah UEFA has had Dictatorships as members from the start. Regardless, the sportswashing really began when Abramovich bought Chelsea. Although I would argue the first example was when Silvio Berlusconi bought AC Milan in the late 80s. Actually come to think of it (since Silvio Berlusconi also came up with the Champions League), Berlusconi has a lot to answer for in relation to the current state of Italian Football.
@diomuda7903
@diomuda7903 11 ай бұрын
@@MrSmith1984 When Greece, Portugal and Turkey were parts of UEFA alongside other Eastern Europe, UEFA at that time was being split by the Cold War, a rather different story than what's now today. The Cold War affected the border. Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003, which was a year after Kazakhstan joined in 2002. At the time Russia was still being recognised as an emerging democracy and Putin at the time was still a quiet person, leaving Belarus and Azerbaijan rather isolated dictatorships. Kazakhstan kickstarted sportswashing, others learnt to perfect it. Since most Kazakhs can speak Russian, there is no doubt that they knew where Abramovich got inspiration from. The chain of events fuelled Saudi Arabia to believe on the same thing. Berlusconi's role in damaging Italian football was huge. But it was not sportswashing, it was rather pure mafia. Although it was cracked down in 2005, the damage was done and the country has never recovered from it. My suggestion for it has always been appointing a non-Italian coach to rebuild Italy national team, but due to corruption and arrogance, Italians could not come to cope with the idea that a non-Italian should coach the Azzurri.
