What are your thoughts on the impact of sexual media on mental health and relationships? Have you tried reducing exposure? Let’s discuss!

I’m on day 331 and it’s the hardest thing to quit. Worse than alcohol, drugs, smoking and gambling. Every where you go there’s something that can trigger you. I’ve done the program, been to therapy ( for a while) and watched and continue to watch these type of help videos. Have to think about the consequences and always remember what’s the most important thing in my life. Wife and Family…

Sometimes it doesn’t have to be Instagram or any other social media site. Yesterday I was watching a news channel, and one of the host of the shows was wearing a skirt, slightly hiked up…. Needless to say I was affected.

Give me a break. That's called a mammalian response and how we continue to exist as a species. The Shakers went extinct because they became so 'pure" that they didnt have sex. Thats going to the other extreme of sexual repression.

When I went on KZbin to watch this video in the upper left corner of my screen is an add for a video that says, "Young Women Seeking Older Men" with a provocative photo to draw the attention to the ad. A bit ironic, right? It is impossible to be online and not see this stuff. Sad.

Dr. Leigh, I've been searching for almost 7 months to get an answer... How is it possible for someone with a fetish (that was with him since childhood) not to be triggered? Like: you go out, it's everywhere. Same as any place on the internet. Still this happens with some people that are close to you in terms of relationships, and you cannot ignore or leave the place... Even though after 4-5 months of completely being free and bringing the brain back online, it still works as a trigger that can lead back to the first place. I still don't understand why the information on this field is too little that literally no one talks about fetishes in terms of a cure! Would be amazing if you get to this topic a little bit more, and talk about it please. I do appreciate your time and effort, thanks!
@clarkbruce_exmuslim8 ай бұрын
Bro you almost told my story right there. I've had the exact same issue with non-porn fetishes for the last 1,5 years, as well as previously in my life. I couldn't go anywhere, and I couldn't isolate, so I just went along with it like nothing. I had to. I've just recently cut down on or cut our certain TY-channels and IG-accounts, but it's barely the beginning. It also doesn't help that I'm an ex-Muslim. Not only have I lost pretty much all of my friends and missed out on so much in life (I left Sep 2022), but I also never learned to discipline myself properly as I got caught up in halal/haram. At no intention of my own, women became like toxic spiders to avoid, and that's only one reason I eventually had to leave. That's when I lost all self-control, since I'd already lost so much of it. It's like my body doesn't wanna give Islam an inch, but yet I kinda have to just to not go the other way. Trish, I strongly suggest you look up "purity culture", cause that's what happened to me and so many others. It's a totally different ballgame quitting MB/porn if that's your background.
@joebrat68098 ай бұрын
I have tried to quit porn for about 4 months now, I managed to stay off adult websites completely since about one month ago but i still CHEATED as i was chatting to adult entertainers online etc, as I got an addiction to T girl porn despite identifying as straight and only ever having had sex and romantic attraction to cis women, virtual stimulation is NOT the same as face to face one, as you haven't got an actual person in front of you, it's just an image and you can feel attracted to such imagery, but it has left me confused AF. It was only after I stopped CHEATING and COMPLETELY stayed off it for about 10 days now that I FINALLY start to notice change. It's like going on a diet, you cannot start cheating (and complain why you're not losing weight) you gotta be disciplined.

From a biblical standpoint most people are not aware of the spiritual dangers of pornography invited into our addiction. are spirit beings they can and do inflience this world....some people would scoff at this idea in 2024 but its real....they can inflluence human thinking imo pronogeaphy is a portal a gateway to a world that we as humans have no comprehnsion of....

I have been viewing a number of your videos. Good content. In terms of “explicit matter”, do explicit works of art qualify? This could mean works like the roof of the Sistine chapel. Sculptures like Michelangelo’s David? What about visiting the beach? You did not say one should avoid the beach. But in terms of “explicit matter” should women revert back to wearing the fashions of 1920s and 1930s? Can such art and fashion be a triggering mechanism? Is it best that David (sculpture) and Adam and Eve (painting) have fig leafs? Is it better for women to wear the 20s and 30s swimwear so as not to create a triggering response?

@cameronm73188 ай бұрын
I'd say if it is a trigger for you, it's explicit. It can be different for different people. And it requires honesty, like what Dr Leigh said, listen to your conscience, are you going there for genuine interest or for the explicit matter? And tune in and see if it's really you or the 'hijacker' bringing you back into the old pathways.
