The problem is Luka wants a foul called on literally every touch or bump while Shai just plays through it without any reaction. Luka is bigger and stronger than all the wings guarding him so if he just focused on scoring rather than foul baiting, he would score more and help his team. Instead he whines and complains all game. Good luck to the Mavs. I was a big fan of Luka when he entered the league but have been souring on him over the last couple of years because of his childish behavior. He really needs to look at how Jokic plays the game in terms of staying calm and not getting frustrated. I think Luka may have more talent than Nikola but Jokic has really, really passed him by as a player at this point. I don't care for lack of effort on defense or standing around when he doesn't have the ball. That's kind of the coaches fault but again something you will never see from Jokic when he's in a game. I actually have Shai rated higher as a guard now than Luka. He is not as good a ball handler or passer but stays calm and plays better D as well as more efficient scoring.

Youth coaches need to set examples early on that regardless of how bad the refs are, you ALWAYS focus on your own game. There is never a benefit of getting in a refs ear, especially in youth games where A. The stakes aren't high, B. Usually the refs are young and still learning, and C. Your ENTIRE focus should solely be player development. It is not their (our) job to coach the refs, it is our job to coach the players: technically, tactically, and mentally. I think the main problem with this Slovenia team is that their "true leader" as you put it was Goran Dragić. A put your head down and grind all game long type of player. Since Goran is gone, there is no "true leader". Luka is by far the best player, but he needs a veteran next to him to keep him in check. The coach has zero authority. In the past, when Luka started complaining about refereeing Goran would shut him down immediately. I'm afraid Slovenia has already achieved everything they ever would with Luka. Sure, Čančar was missing, but Slovenia just doesn't have enough quality to put around Luka to be able to make it to the top 4.

I also agree with your observation about SGA. He’s probably the only NBA player in the whole tournament that doesn’t complain he has been fouled on every single drive. I think the way the NBA has been referee, which is heavily in favor of the offensive player, means when these players play FIBA basketball they are just not use to not getting the calls they would normally get in the NBA. It doesn't bode well if your team depends on one star player even if as good as Dončić. The complete lack of leadership when things go south has been a problem of Slovenia under Aleksander Sekulić. The Goran Dragić and Igor Kokoškov led team of 2017 was the opposite. When the opponent went into a 10 point lead, this team just gave up, against Germany, Canada and Lithuania. It's also bad coaching when a team's chemistry is as bad as its star's antics. Slovenia should get better as Luka grows up and gets to better shape too, but they should first learn how to organise a team correctly with lacking material like what Latvia has done under Luca Banchi.

Encouraging behavior I liked, and discouraging behavior I didn't. Putting it short I was angry, aggressive and confrontational. Luka needs to emulate Jokic. (Or Shai ....) Jokic will complain on some bad calls but not on EVERY call. And Jokic always stays calm. Most people accept that Nikola is now the best player in the world as he dominated the NBA playoffs. Unlike Luka, Jokic always makes an effort on defense -- and his defense is much better than people give him credit for. Nikola is two time MVP and an NBA champion so worth paying attention to how he succeeded as an unheralded player entering the NBA. Luka needs to calm down, focus on the game, stop complaining non-stop, and at least make an effort to move without the ball and play defense. I thought Luka's defense and composure would improve after a few years in the NBA but they might be getting worse.

Eh I think it comes down to 3 things as to why Luka was moaning so much. 1. You were right, he got tired and was probably frustrated at the lack of support from his team. It probably puts him in a "him against the world mindset" and so when he gets a call against him, which does happen in games, he feels that the refs are also against him. 2. He's too use to the NBA. In the NBA I feel he would often get a lot of these calls, but in FIBA, they tend to allow more contact and want the game to flow more. Luka has probably gotten so use to those calls being given, that he was getting frustrated that the tricks he normally use weren't working in this competition. 3. He often takes inspiration from Football and more specifically Real Madrid. A bit more of a stretch, but in football, you can sometimes convince the ref to agree with you and give you the fouls if you play it off right and complain to the ref enough to give them reasonable doubt, Real Madrid do this a lot and often get favourable treatment from the ref, so I wouldn't be surprised if this culture has rubbed off on him. At least football is now clamping down on this more. I do think it's unfair to say that Shaii was a better leader as he does have a better quality team around him. I think nearly every player put in Luka's position would probably act the same way. It can be quite hard when you have to shoulder your whole countries ambitions on you back, especially when you are so use to a culture of winning. When you don't have the support around you and you can see your team mates making silly mistakes, it's bound to weigh on you.

I think Luka makes him teammates worse. When he got ejected, some of Slovenia’s players got to show their skills. If you’re playing with Luka, then all you can do is watch him drive, or stand still to shoot a three. This heliocentric offense doesn’t win championships.

Congratulations, for getting the outcome your way, no matter what Nothing personal, just I need more opinions which are not obviously bias. With the “Judges” not only Referees on one side being repeatedly extremely bias it’s not easy but Easier to win. There should be clear punishment, otherwise a sport will become not what we the “wise” people want. I understand, your audience wants what it wants and that is the way it is, You have to feed your kids today not tomorrow. No BS there, but I have not seen any canadine player in a bad shape, at least not like Slovenes. All, not Luka alone, were scratched with obvious wounds and scratches. This for me was very much over the top. What’s their name , referee must know that Violence gives birth to more Violence and the ones who start, are usually issued with penalties , which must be significant, so a lasting critical memory impression is formed in a defendant’s brain which in a critical situation have enough power to stop this nonsense. My language is appalling, and I apologize if I offended anyone. It was not my intention. Now tell me anyone why it should not be at least a little appalling and I'll change my mind. Suprise, but I normally am a reasonable, eager for knowledge old man. Reason must be exact and substantiated and supported by history. OK? I hope I have not offended anyone, Nothing personal. It was not meant to be that way! There is only one thing which supersedes my "wisdom" and it’s called Injustice. It manifested during the game and perhaps before ( which is only my wild guess ). Because luka was foul baiting and dort and brooks kept their defensive stance. Slovenia had no clue how to defend shai so there were hacking or moving their arms and not their feet. the point is that you just can't compare a team with 5 guys being all solid nba players and a team with Luka Doncic and some perimeter shooters. In the end it just comes down to this. Slovenia just lacks option for its offence, beside Luka 1v1 or the the 3 point shot. Add a lack of effort in defense and that's it. I see no point in questioning Doncic for his behaviour with the refs... he did all he could but that wasn't enough. Frustration did the rest.

Nah, us slovenians are too proud to swallow such shit refereeing, rulebook is simple, why can't the referees set a certain criteria and hold it for both teams? Am I the only one that understands him? How the fuck do you stay calm when you know the refereeing isn't fair the whole game? When one team is allowed to defend 5x harder, with tons of contact and the other one can't even stand still with their hands in the air and it's a foul??? When Dončić was already losing his mind, the game was pretty much over... I see no problem in giving Shai FTs, he got fouled most of the time, but Luka got fouled equal amount and no fouls constantly? Is it his fault he's that big and skilled to where the only way defenders can stop him is by fouling him, if that means a foul almost every possession so be it, but if u want less FTs, then let us defend stronger, too... I hope I'm wrong, but I'm feeling like this is all FIBA's fault where their agenda is to have Canada - USA in finals, depending on how close the result will be between Serbia and Canada, I see referees doing the same vs Serbia as well, they already eliminated Spain and made Slovenians lose their mind... Hope I'm wrong.

Slovenia was slow to defend. Sorry but luka walking back on defence really hurt your team. It put them out of position and put them in foul trouble.
