Shane has certainly changed the foundation and the expectation at South Carolina. After what he did last season, I think the low-end expectation has been changed from "let's make a bowl game consistently" to "let's shoot for a Florida bowl and possible CFP contention and not wind up in Birmingham or the Gasparilla Bowl". He has proven in his first four years that he can do more with less, and while I do think it's premature to say they'll make the CFP in 2025, if they can win 9+ games again and put together another great HS recruiting class in the 2026 cycle (which I think they're poised to do), I think they'll have the talent and pieces in place to be an upper-middle tier, and occasionally, a Top 5 SEC football program for the next several years to come.

Congrats to Sellers and the Gamecocks for a great season... but pump the breaks on saying Shane has "rebuilt" this program. If there's one thing Carolina fans have learned through the last 33 years, it's that expectations are a killer for this program. Excluding the three 11 win seasons by Spurrier, every time it felt like this squad was building and on the rise, the bottom fell out from under them. The years under Holtz with Pinkins - they crumbled. The years under Muschamp with Bentley, same thing. Just last year with Rattler, we saw it again. Ask the majority of Gamecock fans this time last year, they would tell you they wanted Shane to be fired. They switched to a new OC before the recent bowl game, and they looked awful on that side of the ball with Sellers looking confused. Williams-Brice at night is a fun atmosphere and most good teams that have had to play there are usually in for a fight. But time and time again, I have witnessed this team always be much, much better when they are in the underdog role instead of being the ones with a target on its back. Shane botched getting Rattler to return for his senior year and building off a strong finish from the year before. Lets see what he can build off of Sellers before we start to give Shane his flowers.

Beamer’s different than recent coaches we’ve had. I think 2023 was an anomaly and a horrible oline combined with injuries and no RB hurt badly that season. He’s recruiting at a level we haven’t seen here and bringing in impact transfers almost every year, and none of his best players leave for portal anymore. As for your OC comment I think Sellers just wasn’t executing like he’s supposed to… missed around 5 or 6 open throws and never read the field vs Illinois, also they just had a great game plan to limit him. I think there’s a lot of upside for 2024 and a reason to have somewhat high, but not insanely high expectations.

@nicksanchelli765 Oh, without a doubt, there should be some expectations. Just when I see some saying they are expecting 10+ wins and a possible shot at the SECCG, I am unsure where this is coming from. They bring Sellers back but lose Sanders at RB and still never developed that one true "dude" at WR. They lose their best pass rusher with his eligibility being up. Not to mention this was a team with a LOT of seniors, so will the voids they leave behind be filled is another question. There's a bit more reason for hope in Columbia then there's been in the last decade for sure, but for me personally when it comes to the Gamecocks history - I gotta see it to believe it. Same goes for Shane himself, it's his first HC gig and there's no history to look back on to say he will reach that next level. I agree that Rattler's last year there were some costly injuries, but that was a year in which they had a bit of hype going into the season and by the end of it not a lot of people were happy. I think it's fair to say Shane is 0 for 1 when there are expectations but can easily be 1 for 2 by this time next year which is what Gamecock fans want. If he's 0 for 2 however... that's when you start to wonder if it's the beginning of a pattern with him in charge. Win 8 or 9 games is where I'd aim realistically with anything more being a bonus. 7 or fewer is a big ol "eh" ....

I’d love to see you take what you do in your recruiting class breakdowns and go fully into deep dives of no. 1 ranked classes or maybe some of the most hyped classes for a single school. For example, we know that the 2013 class from Ole Miss was stacked with guys like nkemdiche, tunsil and Treadwell, but how did all the other guys in the class turn out or where did they turn out? I’m sure there are much better examples but that was the first that came to mind

Ngl, Steve spurrier’s last year with us is what I think killed us. Not much effort put into recruiting, and it just felt like he was already retired, if spurrier retired a year earlier I think we would have been better off. ( I also was very young when he coached for us but looking back that’s what it seemed like so lmk you remember that era well).
