From memory Bobby’s video was gaining traction and it WAS changing the conversation around Shane Dawson until the “collab”, which i think is why Shane reach out to them. And the shitty thing is that it WORKED. I went from questioning to Shane to being fan again as soon as the bobby burns series was released.

i actually used to watch a lot of bobby before shane discovered. even saw the videos in which he talked about him. i liked them both at the time but bobbys videos on him are what made me take a bit of a step back from shane and question his character. and when i saw that not only did shane respond to these videos in a series, he conveniently left out the most incriminating details and also INVITED THIS BOY TO HIS HOUSE AND LOVEBOMBED THE FUCK OUTTA HIM… it felt so forced i didnt feel right watching it. and bobby’s decline afterward was painful to watch also

yeah it sucks, he used to make some pretty good commentary stuff but then because of the shane situation he made a hard pivot to vlog style stuff. on top of that shane totally misrepresented bobby in a way that was clearly manipulative, i think that a lot of people didn’t bother to watch bobby’s video because of shane’s misrepresentation, he used clips but left out a lot, even leaving out the fact that bobby has ticks to make him come across as “shifty”, it honestly should’ve been a big red flag for me but i was a teenager when this stuff came out so… idk, im just glad that people are talking about this stuff now because shane really controlled the narrative back then and it’s sad to see how much he got away with in the moment

I remember watching Shane's videos as soon as I could, every upload, ESPECIALLY the conspiracy ones, back in the day. I was very young and oblivious. My dad would sometimes sit with me while I watched him on the TV and I distinctly remember my dad calling Shane a creep and that I shouldn't believe all that he talks about. Turns out when Shane got canceled years later after the Conspiracy palette, my dad said "I told you he was a creep." Dads know!!

Great topic. I wouldn't go so far as to say that Shane 'ruined' Bobby - but he kind of did. Giving him a place in his weekly schedule on his own channel and giving him a lot of money and kind of getting Bobby and his then girlfriend to move to LA. And the way Shane introduced Bobby... Shane really did a number on Bobby - I wonder if down the line Bobby himself will talk about this. Edit: I think what I've seen of Shane's recent content he is now somehow worse. Not genuine but with some cringe baby persona and to be honest he seems totally bonkers, of his rocker, even mean. So Shane didn't address a SINGLE serious point Bobby made in his video?? It's pretty ironic how Bobby was calling him out for manipulation when this video itself is nothing but Shane trying to manipulate his audience to hate Bobby Burns 😑 . And it is also hilarious that almost EVERYONE would call him out on the extremely problematic content a few years after this, lol... Anyway, this series was uploaded while I still watched Shane, but this was the point I really didn't watch much of his newer content because I just thought it seemed boring... I really only ever watched like his 2016 videos. So I'm not completely sure what is coming, but I have heard over the years how all this ended horribly for Bobby... I think it is great for Adam to call attention to this little series in particular because Shane apparently seriously f**ked this guy over... And it was almost definitely the outcome Shane wanted.

i never realized this until now, but the total false comparison between himself being manipulative with the uneven breathing, shifty eyes, etc in "apology" videos vs bobby having a genuine emotional moment explaining his mental health in a video that wasn't an apology is so fucking creepy. he did it in a way where a young viewer wouldn't be thinking critically about the difference in context in the two videos.

In my own opinion, I don't believe Shane actually ruined Bobby.... But I do believe Bobby ruined himself. He was a piece of work and never really fit anywhere on the KZbin spectrum. Shane gave him a platform to explore, but he was condemned from the start... I'll agree Shane put him up to fail, because there was NO WAY that kid would have go though all of this and succeed.
