I don't really mind the biased takes because I do think it makes the debates more fun, especially when they flex/clown on each other (ex. when Wildes does his gentlemen sweep thing with the nuggets, but then Brou and Nick uno reverse him for it after game 7). I dislike Skip A LOT , but I always felt like people way overreacted to what he was saying in the tweet. Yes, the message was jumbled, and he should have known better as a writer. But look at the two sentences. In one sentence he’s asking how the NFL would be able to ‘postpone’ the game. It’s a fair question. I’ve never seen the NFL continue a game days later like I’ve seen in MLB. Ultimately that wasn’t what the NFL did. In the second sentence, he is pointing out the magnitude of the game, and commenting on how it’s ultimately irrelevant when juxtaposed with Hamlin’s injury. Nothing about those two sentences was offensive, in my opinion. Problem was how Skip wrote the “….which suddenly seems so irrelevant” part. People misread that and got mad.

I think Skip also changed his dynamic and persona post Shannon. And I don’t think he’s done yet. He’s the villain who needs a proper opponent. If and when found, the dynamic will refresh the desire for viewers to see him fighting stubbornly to the death for his eccentric viewpoints, I still think the fact that Skip and Nick Wright don’t have a show where they exclusively talk LeBron vs Jordan is literally a crime against humanity. It’s the grudge match this current age of gossipy sports media needs. They’re literally like the antichrist of each others perspectives. One thing I deeply respect about Skip is he made it a point early in his career to not befriend players or become a locker room reporter because he thought it would stain his objectivity. I’m sure in 99% of instances, the feeling was mutual, but even GM version of Michael Jordan couldn’t escape Skip’s wrath. I think a place still exists for him in sports media because he’s just too hated and fans relish too much in seeing him defeated in arguments etc. But he’s gonna have to find that spot again to reignite the fire. Skip is stubborn, has some whacky opinions and outlandish interpretations of sports topics. But I’ve never once found him dishonest. A hater, biased, or otherwise, sure. But I’ve never felt like he wasn’t telling me what he truly felt.

It was the timing. This was the Monday Night game and Hamlin had basically died on the field and they had to keep him alive with CPR before paramedics arrived. This wasn’t an “injury” - this was a life threatening issue that happened on the field of play. He potentially died from an innocent play. Well later that same night Skip tweeted this before we even knew Hamlin had survived, but was in critical condition. The spirit of the anger was basically "Let's find out if the kid survived before we worry about how we can resolve the conclusion of a football game."
@McSomething154 ай бұрын
It was Skip's "but how?" that people took exception to. It easily makes his tweet look like he's questioning the idea of not completing the game.

@steveosborn72245 ай бұрын
Flacco should have got the award over the guy that had 3 tackles. It’s an award for an improved performance not a lack of one. And as far as Skip’s apology goes, every time you open your mouth you risk offending someone, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t speak.

It’s because not only was that the wrong time to worry about scheduling, but his wording also suggested that postponement was a bad idea. We didn’t know if Hamlin was going to live or die at that point. Even if all he did was say “this situation sucks for the NFL” (which is not a full description), anyone in their right mind would’ve said “who the hell cares?”
@calebwilson38925 ай бұрын
I also think this story came around the same time the Texans owner made insensitive comments about his players comparing them to inmates, so black players and media personalities were understandably sensitive to begin with. I could be wrong about the timing on that though
