@@randomuser5237 because other idiots have already done that. several people jumped down the niagara falls inside barrels. if water would have acted like concrete in that scenario, a barrel wouldn't save you. what kills people when jumping down a waterfall are three things: -hitting the ground. if the water isn't deep enough to completely stop the vertical flow before it reaches the ground, you're gonna hit it. hard. -being caught by the pressure. if you're unlucky, the pressure from the waterfall will keep you down for a very, very long time. -drowning. either because of the second point, or because of disorientation, or extreme cold, etc.. oh, and that all is considering that you land in the part of the water that is actually disturbed by the waterfall. fall besides it onto a point that has surface tension, or accidentally hit the rock on your way down and you're gonna die. in other words: survival is possible, but not probable. highly recommended to never try.

well at the time, Moriarty gained the upper hand by taking advatage of Holmes's injury, had he not been injured, things may have turned out differently, at one point in their fight Holmes said something along the lines of "as I feared, the wound is taking its toll"

Moriarty had the advantage because Holmes' arm was hurt and the professor could use that against him, however Holmes could find no holes in his defense, that equaled this advantage. As for calling for Watson, well, it was a sort of a personal scenario between him and Moriarty. It's a bit better explained in the book, but Holmes kinda made it his own little agenda to take him down. As for the throatpunch, well, Moriarty was not expecting that at the time, because Holmes had not enough evidence that led to him, or at least he thought and therefore, thought Holmes would not engage in a fistfight with someone he could not surely call the cops on. His only intention was threatening. Of course, it was a very clear opening Holmes could've used. But then, there's no movie.

I personally feel the movie's ending would have been so much better if Holmes hadn't practically announced that he was alive by taking off the mask to his camouflage suit in the chair, running up to Watson's typewriter and typing "THE END ?". I felt it was both an over-advertisement for a cliffhanger and made his hiding in the first place totally pointless since Watson obviously would have figured out he was alive just from seeing the printing changed. I would have had the film end with the audience seeing Holmes' masked face move while sitting camouflaged in the chair after Watson left and then cut to black right there. It would still have shown he was likely alive but delivered the twist in a more subtle yet more surprising way and made you wonder if perhaps Moriarty was the survivor sitting in that disguise. I just found it as the director's way of screaming "A third one is coming!" without making much effort to be clever about it. Remember when Magneto was sitting alone playing chess at the end of X-Men 3 and made a piece move slightly with his powers, showing that the mutant cure wasn't permanent after all? I listened to people debate about that for weeks after seeing the film, because it was a subtle yet strongly provocative ending. They didn't show him lifting a van off the ground, then dancing like Chris Tucker in Rush Hour because they knew they didn't need to oversell it.

Cool, maybe the conspiracy from the first two films led by Moriarty could be concluded and a fresh case could be opened involving Sherlock's past. Maybe his faked death was all in preparation to tackle a new antagonist who wouldn't expect him if he was assumed dead. I'm not sure how Watson would reunite with Sherlock in Switzerland unless he and his wife were conveniently there, but I'm sure they'd find a way to make it happen. I do think a new story arc overall would make more sense and be more original versus having Moriarty be replaced by some new villain who was somehow the real mastermind all along because REASONS. Or worse, having the bad guy be some previously unmentioned family member seeking revenge for Moriarty's death (Taken 2, Dark Knight Rises, Die Hard 3, etc). Just don't rehash it.

Here's how I think the third film should go: It should be confined to England's cities and countrysides. We still haven't had a whodunit mystery. We can't have just another villain who's Holmes' intellectual equal, because that would just repeat Moriarty. Sniper Sebastian Moran still needs to be caught. And there's always Jack the Ripper. In fact, I guess in real history, Jack was never caught (at least, that's what Spiderman said, lol). The third film can show what happened to him.
