Amazing video! As someone who struggles with depression and adhd and what’s to make art for a living, this hits very close to home. Can’t wait to see what you create! :)

Please keep making content, just found your videos and they hit! Thank you for being so real and sharing your truth, that is not easy. You are the echo of millions of people who have not had the courage to leap (yet).

Awesome video, and great message. I can relate a lot! Making stuff, i.e. Making incremental progress helped a lot with my depression.

Something that helped me out a lot when I was working 116 hour weeks was aim for the next small achievement. In the case of my working, it was only telling myself my next break is only in one hour. This shift isn't that far away now from ending. It is similar to your #3. It makes small obtainable goals and strive to meet those goals.

What a wonderfully honest and valuable video to have started your video with. You could've started with many things, like a topic you either have some sort of degree or professionality in, or something easy and funny and safe - but you went and laid bare yourself with no fear (seemingly at least!), honestly showing who you are and where you are in life. Kudos. I truly believe you'll go far in whatever you wish to reach for.

This means a lot to me, thanks for the kind comment. I really wanted to make sure I could look back at my first video to remind myself any anyone who decided to find it in the future where I was in my life at the time and how important the mindset shift was and is.

Great video. I do level design and board game design as a hobby, and it’s always fun to find inspiration from the world and imagine the segments of experiences you intend the level or game to be focused around, but that excitement quickly becomes intimidation when you enter the phase of bringing your scattered idea into a cohesive reality. And if you do prevail, and your idea does survive: after all the hours spent refining your creation you sit back and wonder “how did I do this, and how can I top it?” This self-imposed loop of higher standards chasing something that may be unattainable. The cycle of madness of any art form. Either way, you push through that intimidation and doubt by focusing on one thing at a time. Whatever your end goal is, being able to say you contributed (or attempted to contribute) towards reaching that goal is to say that you made progress.

Even though your advice seems to be pretty basic or obvious, this video helped me a lot. I just clicked on it because I'm into board game design and I thought "why not?", but as soon as you started talking about your situation six months ago, I noticed: we're the same. Well kind of. I just saw my problems in everything you said and I got the feeling that you could help me without even knowing me. Thanks for starting this channel, I'll watch the rest of your videos while packing (I go to "rehab" tomorrow) and am very much looking forward to learn many more things from you. Cheers from Germany!

I really like your style in terms of how you’re tackling this shift from consumer to producer/creator. The advice 5/6 points you gave are solid, more so because you have cola ones how you arrived to this shift. Subscribed.

I think this is a great video, really enjoying all your stuff. I subscribed. Great stuff. I think there's nothing inherently bad with either consuming or producing. Or how I like to call it, "doing or being." There's moments in our life where we should be busy and doing things. There's moments in our life where we should be slow, taking it easy and reflecting or consuming. I think there's merit in finding a balance between the two, but something that's really changed my life is asking this question instead: "Who am I becoming?" Once I reflect on this question it helps ground me while I'm doing or being (producing or consuming). Does my doing help me become a better person? Does my being help me become a better person? As a Christian, I can reflect on the fruits of the spirit and ask myself, do I possess these things and how can I work on them? Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Then my doing AND my being aren't as important and I don't get wrapped up in balancing my life. And honestly, I don't really care if I'm remembered for making a great board game (I'd love to make a great board game one day), but I'm more worried about how I'm remembered as being a great person. A great husband and father. I worry more about how I'm becoming through those fruits of the spirit lately... But I will say in general - most people consume FAR TOO MUCH and should really consider creating more. Can you imagine how much creativity we've lost through people being consumers? How many stories, paintings, poems, musical scores we've been robbed off because people just choose to consume and veg out? It's sad. Hey - anyways - great video. Love it. Can't wait for more.

This is very well said. I love the question, it's good to check in and make sure your on the right path. I've been thinking about identity and affirmations, so this resonates with me a lot. Thanks for the taking the time to share this.
