@serenitynow85 yeah, winning the lottery is special, too, but it doesn't mean I'm willing to put in the resources to try and win it... some people are, and fair play to them... but with my limited time to play games, I like my shiny hunts to be a day, maybe a week long... not 2 months

I really enjoy and appreciate both easier/more common and harder/rarer hunts. I definitely agree that a full-odds hunt in an older game definitely gives you the best rush when you finally find one. But I also like the newer games for the completionist aspect; it is conceivable in PLA and SV to complete shiny Pokédexes within the lifespan of the generation, and I enjoy going for that, too.

I understand your perspective but as someone who started shiny hunting a few years ago, the accessibility of shiny Pokemon is what got me into it in the first place. I've got a few shinies in the older games but I felt incredibly unmotivated to do an actual shiny hunt because of incredibly long and tedious it was to me. But when I started hunting in Legends Arceus and then in Scarlet and Violet, it actually felt really fun and I was enjoying myself so much that I kept on hunting. And I feel like a lot of other people started hunting in the newer games for the same reason. I have been thinking of doing a hunt in X and Y sometime though.

Shinies became a lot more accessible to casual players. In old games it took like 10 seconds to get one encounter in comparison to quick you can get encounters now, which will devalue it for the hardcore hunters but there are enough hunts that are exciting or hard to do, you just have to look for them. Shiny alphas in PLA, rare form shinies and size/mark hunts still are incredibly rewarding. That is also after I hunted shiny Celebi for 28241 encounters and 350 hours before getting it (even ribbon mastered it). It has become one of my favorite shinies, but so is my shiny roaring moon with an opportunist mark I got as my first shiny paradox mon I used in comp or my shalpha ninetales I softreset for. And I agree with you, in the end just hunt whatever you enjoy, whether that is just old gen or new. And the entire argument in the start with thyplosion is more about the model than really the shinyness

Last year I got to play HeartGold for tge first time. I thought it would be fun to start with a shiny starter. Only after 2 hours ish of resetting, I got shiny Totodile (my favorite). I will never forget how I felt in that moment😊

The only reason I want to take on harder shiny hunts is because I got to start off with easy shiny hunts in Legends Arceus. I did not have the time or patience to do 12 hour long grinds for shiny Pokemon, and then get a shiny I don't even want. PLA was already fun, but the accessibility of being able to find shinies in Scarlet and Violet was downright inspiring. After a handful of easy shinies, I was having so much fun, that I built up the patience to do harder shiny hunts that have been long, annoying, and still fun. It's just not possible for everyone to be able to put aside hundreds of hours to hunt full odds. I'd say that shiny hunt has only evolved over the years, because you can make it as easy or as hard as you want. Wanna make shiny hunting in Scarlet and Violet a nightmare? Try to hunt for personality marks. Try to amass a full collection of marks on shiny Pokemon. See how easy that is 😂

Honestly it was better but not for the reasons you’re saying, at least not 100%. You’re right shiny hunting being easier is a bit disappointing but honestly that’s not the issue it’s that that’s literally ALL you can do in Pokemon after beating the lackluster stories and back then it took waaaaaayyy too long to get shinys so if it was more in the middle for rarity I’d love that and if there were more ways to get shinys I would love that as well. It’s not the easiness of getting them it’s the realization that that is all you can do besides battling

i have a story for my first shiny. it was a full odds noivern in sword and shield, i was trying to do the hidden encounters for drampa i think and i heard my parents walking around so i hid my switch under my pillow and went to sleep. when i woke up i opened my switch to go put it back on charge and on my screen was a shiny noivern. i think i used my master ball that night

I think its safe to say that Gamefreak finally understood how big Shiny hunting and just wanted to make it easier and more accessible for new fans who don't want to spend 10 hours looking for a different colored Pokemon. Then again it shouldnt be as brainrottingly easy as S/V

@@jacobpomegranate SwSh had tons of different shiny hunting method's. The problem is that for example Dynamax Adventures was too dependent on online since NPC Behavior patterns are equivilant to a dog pressing a button for a treat, and Dynamax Raids which were insanely easy to exploit. If they can make something interactive that also doesnt have to depend on online functionality that'd be great

Yerp, this is how I feel about HAs. Its just theres so many ways to turn your poke into HA nowadays, or just HA boosters that when I got a rawdog HA in my gameplay and was super hyped i was just super sad later when I realized it really didnt matter. All i did was save myself a like 5 diff raid.

I love shiny hunting, especially PLA has probably been the most enjoyable for me to shiny hunt in since it doesn't require some form of setup or particular method (like sandwich, or Dex nav or fishing chain), and have overall better odds than pretty much any other games (due to the whole odds boosting tied to the dex, meaning you can get pretty good odds even without shiny charm. iirc PLA has the best possible odds in the franchise just behind SwSh Dynamax Adventures).

My first shiny was actually a Kakuna in Soul Silver from Ilex forest. I don’t have that copy anymore, but my first true shiny hunt was for a Honedge in Sun with Masuda Method. I’ll never forget seeing that sword ✨
