Very good advice, Father. I am a revert back to the faith after abandoning God at the age of 7. Now, at 34, I feel like I'm basically a 'baptized catechumen,' just learning as much as I can about the religion of my family.

Deleting social media for a major fast has been one of the best practices i have done. Everytime, I don't want to Come back and i may not this time. You really see how much time you spend on there. Your brain feels free free and can give so much more to Christ.

I ask myself often, “is the extreme busyness not related to worshiping money?” I don’t think there are many Americans that don’t have more than they need. I know I certainly have more than I need and I am a poor person by popular statistics.

If its a pure timewaster and you get nothing spiritual from it then delete it for the fast period. If you regularly use it for perhaps spreading gospel or getting informed on doctrine, theology, etc then use it for that purpose mainly. Personally I use instagram a lot and could benefit from one half hour per day spent on either spreading word or watching content related to God.
@Valor21meАй бұрын
Deleted social media. Other than KZbin cuz I like watching edifying things and entertainment right before bed. Im an orthodox catechumen, so im fasting specifically from meat from orders from my priest. And I will say im actually on the up and up. The last 2 months were very depressing so it’s kind of a low bar. But it’s nice. My thoughts are purer. And I’m actually happier

Why are prostrations one of the pillars of the faith? How should I be approaching this action in my heart?

My wife and I are catechumens and have participated in the Apostle's fast but this will be our largest fast. How do we approach sex during these longer fasts? Is it permitted on wine/oil/fish days or under different circumstances?

I have a difficult time not being distracted since my mother is ALWAYS having the TV on and theres constantly distraction and news and the only way to focus on Christ is me sitting in my own room but even evening where I go to the living room to eat and spend time with family the TV is constantly turned ON :( It really distracts me as well as secular music and also iam the only one trying to fast as Iam just now learning how as orthodox christians we gotta fast even tho my whole family is christian :/

can you do a video on how to pray longer? because after like 10 minutes i’m out of things to say. and if prayer can move beyond just saying things, i don’t quite know how to approach that. thanks

Hello, Father. I'm an Orthodox inquirer in the middle of a move. I have 2 questions: Am I permitted to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays before becoming a catechumen? What do you do on days where you eat something un-permitted during the fast? I know this probably comes off as a silly question, but I didn't think it would hurt to ask.

Honestly, your best bet is to ask your preist, and if you don't have one, ask your God parents/ people you know have been in the church for a while and know you.
@grapegripeАй бұрын
There are two phases. In the first phase, up until 20th December, you have no meat, dairy, alcohol, or oil. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you may have alcohol and oil. On Saturdays and Sundays, you may have fish, alcohol, and oil. From the 20th December until 24th December, it’s more strict: no meat, dairy, alcohol, or oil, but you may have alcohol and oil on Saturdays and Sundays.
