I think Temptalia's "mistake" was wanting to incorporate similar colors in all palettes, greens, purples and pinks are in each palette, had she saved those special colors for each palette then maybe they'd look different enough at first glance. Not saying they should've been monochromatic tho but less trying to include the same in different palettes

I think that releasing 3 palettes that seem so similar (I’m still at the beginning of the video so I haven’t gotten to your conclusions yet) hurt this release. I love Temptalia and have always wanted to try Sydney Grace, but I spent so long trying to figure out which palette would be the perfect one for me that I just gave up. Analysis paralysis!

I think that the palettes color stories may have stood out more with a white/tan background. The black kinda drowns out the colors and makes them look more similar than they really are.

I actually bought all three palettes but split them up and rearranged the pans since they're magnetic. Quintessence ended up becoming more of a deep space color story, while On The Horizon went a little harder into the "secret garden" theme with some extra greens. I was able to create a comprehensive palette with the extra neutrals and redundant shades (to the ones I kept), which I then resold. So it worked out perfectly!

There is definitely a strong Blue-Red-Green color story happening throughout the 3 palettes as a whole. I originally thought I would purchase all 3 until I saw the photos of them & thought they all looked so similar & were basically cool, jewel toned palettes. I saw a couple shades in each palette I liked but not enough to justify purchasing the bundle when I could probably find similar shades in singles. I did end up purchasing On the Horizon after seeing a comprehensive video comparing the palettes & using that one. It came closest to being soft & warm & had colors that will work well with my SG single collection. I totally get the vision Temptalia was going for but kinda wish their was more variety/difference between the palettes.

@@Sassyglbeauty I hear you. I liked all the red/mauve/wine & green/blue-green shades, but I'm not really a blue eye shadow person, especially such deep/vivid shades of blue. When I wear color eye shadow I tend to favor the burgundy/plum/mauve/wine/purple color family, the greens & blue-greens, & the copper/rust/russet/peach. I like a mix of warmer with more neutral or cool, soft Spring & Fall colors with a pop.That's why I went with On the Horizon, I already have quite a collection of shadows in those color families & that palette added to it plus filled some holes. Wish there had been more true purples in the palettes, I was surprised considering the cosmic theme. A light duochrome lavender or a deep matte plum would have been nice.

Let's all give Lauren a high five for doing this comparison even if the general consensus is that the palettes aren't as similar as they seem. This brand and this influencer/blogger are absolute darlings in the community - to even pose the question that these aren't perfect palettes is definitely unpopular opinion. Leave it to Lauren to be investigating and searching and comparing and saying it like it is, in the most flattering way possible. Of course these shades are beautiful, the packaging is incredible, the quality is impeccable. Sydney Grace is a wonderful brand, Temptalia is an absolute asset to the community, unproblematic in every way. People are scared to say anything negative, or produce critical feedback on the collab because the brand the creator are so highly thought of. But the nitty gritty true life swatches and deep dive comparisons ... THIS is the reason I watch KZbin videos.

If certain things make up a significant portion of your favorite eyeshadows--for me purple and sparkles, for her it seems like green and pink/mauve. If that's making up 25% of each palette, really aim for different finishes so that all 3 palettes can be used to create monochromatic looks or take a step back and make a unique choice like one of their pan multichromes in your go to color.... To me these are nits. Looking at this video, I'm really looking forward to getting these palettes in the mail and playing with them as they are.

The colour stories in each of them seem all over the place for me. I'm not saying that they should be monochrome, but each palette and the whole collection is just so badly curated it does not draw me in at the slightest. They all look like a random collection of singles someone bought to compliment their personal palette collection not a curated colour story.

Once you get the similar colors blended out on the eye, especially those of us who aren't MUAs, they're just going to look exactly the same. I feel like I'm paying more for dupes of shades I don't even want in the first place, the greens and a couple of the blues and those purples are much too similar.

I'm picking up Quintessence on the 25% off palettes day. It is really interesting reading everyone's opinions because this palettes reads like a fashion line to me. Each palette has it's own thing (cool, warm, rainbow) but there is an overall sense of cohesion that brings it together. Personally only the one appeals to me, but I can see why people buy the whole collection too.

I bought all three light versions and joined the Temptalia discord. To me these palettes have pushed me out of my comfort zone and I'm grateful for that! I finally tried a cool toned grey look, a green look, used silver and black... They've been fun to play with! I knew she would create unique/special colors. I love these palettes so much. I often find myself just opening them up to stare are them… maybe swatch them a little. This is my first time using the Sydney Grace formula and it’s so great. I usually do looks that use many shadows but I love using just one of these beautiful shimmers all over the lid… maybe a matte in the crease.

Great video with really in-depth assessment of the palettes. I love all three of them but don't want to get all three because they have side adjacent shade colors. I am going to go with On the Horizon because it is the most understated and suits me the most. (I agree with you they appear to be the most wearable as I'm not big on lots of bright shimmers) I wish I could get just certain colors from the other palettes -hmmm, inspires me to see if SG has dupes for these so I can add them to my basket for the sale. Finding out that I can remove the singles has convinced me that I need to get all three of the palettes - Am I crazy? LOL Seriously though this just made me want to get all three because then I can customize them by inserting shades I like to substitute for the few shades that I know will not be complimentary to my skin tone/shade. I actually sat down and made a list of all the shades I loved and that I think would work for me and out of the 36 colors there were only 6 colors that I felt were probably not going to be suitable for my coloring or taste. QUICK UPDATE: I got all three!!! I go the deep in Quint.. and On the Horizon and the Light in Radian Reflection (because the deep was sold out at the time>. I have no regrets. I repotted all three palettes - very easy to do with a magnet and just integrated them with my growing singles collection and I could not be happier. I use the empty pan palettes to place my remix/created palettes for quick access and use as my single shadows are in several Book of Shadows from Colored Raine and these things are a bit heavy but I love them.

This really did help out! I originally wanted Radiant Reflection, but after this I'm more drawn to On the Horizon. I never planned on purchasing all 3 anyway, especially with seeing how similar the shades are. I know there are differences when swatched, but in my experience those differences never show on my eyes...the shades just look the same. I'm just speaking in general, but I don't think brands take into consideration that some slight, barely there differences aren't going to show on brown and deeper skin.

I feel like including blues and greens in every palette was a huge mistake. A lot of people are going to see those colors and go, "Nope, not for me." So you had three chances to appeal to those potentially buyers, and you blew all three chances.

Your analysis was on the money, as to be expected! I have no interest in buying these but I still watched because I knew you’d be thorough and who doesn’t love a good swatch comparison. I freaking love Sydney Grace shadows and they’ve been my default choice over all my other shadows for the past couple of years. So part of my disinterest in these is that I just have so many SG singles, but more so because the strong green/blue theme in all of these is just not for me. I, like you, totally realize that the color stories are different and there are some differences between comparable shades, but for the rare occasion I want blue or green, I have SG singles to satisfy that.

I bought all 3 in the light shades and I am SO happy with my purchase. I have had a ton of fun playing with these palettes. Quintessence was the one palette I was least sure about getting, but uh, I think it might be my favorite of the 3? Although my favorite look I've created so far with these palettes was with On the Horizon (Sakura Glow + Phoenix Awakens + Calming Presence = goooorgeous). In the pan, some shades do look similar, but for me, the differences are apparent when working with the shadows. The difference in finish and undertones really show up outside of the pan, imo. And those subtle differences show how much thought was put into exactly WHICH red shade would work best with the other shades in the palettes.

As a fellow KZbinr I can well understand the amount of work that went into this video. I bought all three palettes when they were first released and I'm definitely going to pop out the individual shades and put all the mattes into a magnetic palette and the shimmers in another magnetic palette. I just bought some more single matte shadows in lighter and mid-tone colors during the Sydney Grace sale so I can create an all matte palettes with a wider range of light, medium and dark hues.

I picked up all three light palettes. When I use them, I love it. I love neutral shadows and I love that these palettes all contain colors. All three palettes allow me to create a neutral look. To me, when I use each palette, they feel different; even though, at first, they appear similar. I enjoy the way Temptalia picked different shades of the same color and made different palettes. I can see a lot of different looks that I want to try with each palette, which surprises me since I’m usually scared of colors.

I grabbed them on release. I enjoy using them and I'm glad I got all three. I got deep quintessence because the two mattes were more unique to my collection and ones I was drawn two. The other two I got in the light. The way I have them in my makeup shelf I can't really tell which is which until I pull it out and I've been happy with whatever one I manage to grab out that day. I've only used each palette maybe 2-4 times each so far.

I remember Christine saying that the middle palette was going to be an earthy "neutral" one (or at least her version of neutral or something like that) and I figured I'd probably have no interest in it, but I really do like all three! Lots of shimmers, fun colors, lots of cool tones, not too many neutrals... it's like I was whispering my own requests as these palettes got made, haha. This is a great video. I ended up selecting Radiant Reflection (the deep version) because that's the one that appeals to me most. Quintessance is GORGEOUS, I love so much about it, but within my collection I'd say it's the most dupable because I have so many special greens and purples. On the Horizon is a neat palette to look at, but it just doesn't speak to me and that's all there is to it. Radiant Reflection though, those blues are calling my name. I love the idea of three 12-pan palettes for a release, but I would love to see more variant colour stories if that's the case. She really tried to create a theme across these three palettes though, from the packaging to the colours, so that if you did get all 3 it would be like having one big jumbo palette with one colour story. I respect the vision. I also see in all her promo there's no pressure to buy all the palettes to "complete" the collection, it's more about finding what speaks to you. She even encourages shopping your own stash and duping the vibes, which I've never seen another creator do for a collab.

Some of the word pronunciations you weren't sure about: Mielke pretty much sounds like /milky/, and that is her last name. Sirius sounds like "serious" and is the brightest star in the sky. Magellan is /muh-jel-ən/ and I believe that was her dog's name, which passed away. Phosphenes is pronounced /fos-feenz/ and it is light you see without seeing actual light, like when you push on your eye and kind of see a flash of light. Great comparison video! I bought all of these palettes already and depotted them into one large palette, but this was a great way to see some of the nuances in each one. I think it would have been better if they just did a matte palette(s) and a shimmer palette(s). Would have been easier for the lighter and darker shades, imo. I love SG and Temptalia but this just wasn't it for me. I don't like the color stories.

I mean, the color stories are all different but I feel like you would get similar looks from all three. I don’t even know which one I like better because they seem to be so close in tone and texture that I kind of just decided not to get any of them. The Christmas in July sale might have me grabbing one though. If I can figure out which one I like the most.

I got these and although I don’t wear it all that often, it’s so absolutely stunning. I was going to put all of the berry, pinks, purples together and all the blues and greens…. But, I ended up not doing it because of the names not being where they should be. But, I def take from all of them to create looks.

I’d check the back of the shadows. My Sydney grace shadows have the names on the back of the shadow pan with a sticker. I didn’t buy this but maybe they still did name stickers. Worth a look :)

That bubbling out of the pan was happening on a few shades of mine as well (I bought all 3 in the Light variations as well) but I haven't seen any issues in performance. Are you planning on getting anything at the Clionadh circle shadow restock today?

I feel like these palettes are still too similar despite their differences. There's blues, greens and pinks in every palette and that really doesn't cater to those that may have colour or tone preferences. Unfortunately, I'd pick specific shades from each and not any single palette as a whole, so I've decided to pass on these even though I hear the shimmers are really good Plus... I'm not really a blue eyeshadow fan tbh. I have a few in my JP palettes and I don't want anymore. Commenting my thoughts on the release at the beginning of the video before I hear your thoughts btw.

I haven’t try SG shadows yet but I have my eye on the sale for either the pallettes or singles. Are the shades in the these pallettes existing shades??? They are still so similar so I’m drawn more to On the Horizon pallette. I love purples and I’m a little disappointed there aren’t really any in these.

No theyre not the same as existing shadows but very very very similar. Sydney Grace makes great purple shadows, just browse through the website and see what appeals most to you.

I'm getting all 3 during their sale because of the deal....otherwise I'm not that interested in radiant reflection as it's like a rich rainbow palette. However the best thing is that they're all magnetic so I'm thinking of it as purchasing a load of singles!
