Great to see him strive at Liverpool. Been following him for a while in the Netherlands and the thing that stand out the past years that he always knows what the opponent will do in the game (and the players said this throughout the seasons here), and was able to pick a suitable game plan for each opponent. His teams in the Netherlands sometimes lacked quality to execute all the plans to perfection against the top teams (Atletico, Roma). But this guy is very gifted in his analysis of the games and was able to bring it to the players of Feyenoord. The question was if top level players at Liverpool would take him seriously (as he was a very mediocre player himself), but so far things seem to be going great! I was looking for an analysis like this one. The defensive shape of United is a major problem and I noticed it ever since the first game with Fulham. With Brighton, they were passing into spaces United was not present in. For all the ten Hag backers at United, this is not a problem Ugarte can fix, I'm sorry. Ugarte cannot be everywhere on the pitch at the same time. The problem is structural and tactical. Hopefully Van Nistelrooy can fix this when ETH gets sacked because ETH is never going to fix this problem and I don't think he's consulting his assistants. They can't all be blind to this.

@ComradeOgilvy19843 ай бұрын
I agree. It is not that Casemiro is not the primary culprit in this match, but there is a lot to dislike about how Fernandez and Mainoo were playing, too. And the problems do not end there. Let us focus in on the first goal. Fernandez could have made the simple pass to the LB, but he dumps it back to Casemiro and then disappears into a passing shadow. Mainoo could have come short for Casemiro (and if he received ball there was an easy one touch flick on to Fernandez) but he casually jogs out of the half space and away. For the second goal, the red shirts are ball watching while 5 Liverpool players mug Casemiro. For the third goal, Mainoo receives in a huge half space, but nobody tries to get open for him. Why did Garnacho (or Fernando) not drop near the line for the easy pass? When he hesitates, MacAllister shoulder checks Mainoo into November.
@clementokpala84292 ай бұрын
@@ComradeOgilvy1984all that happened in the match vs Liverpool is the sum of the problem Man Utd has faced since Fergie retired- teammates playing like strangers. For the 3 goals conceded, there were vast distances between the man on the ball and his teammates. If you guys train daily, how can ETH not see this? There's absolutely no fluidity in the play. No traingular passing games that top teams employ to break down opponents or progress the ball through midfield, no players taking responsibility on the ball, or showing up to support the teammate on the ball. Utd players always get isloated on the ball. There's always no proper basic movements from the other teammates not on the ball to support the man on the ball especially in that midfield position. This is why I think Ugarte might also struggle. DMs who break up play like Ugarte and Casemiro always prefer having teammates showing up around them to receive short passes, and not expecting them to give long passes or making Hollywood passes. This is what Utd always do. Once the DM picks the ball, players like Mainoo and Bruno start bombing forward attempting to create fast attacks whereas in some cases you need to hold possession of the ball for a bit to get the team settled and better-positioned in case you loose the ball. It just pains me that ETH has not made any tactical switch to improve this team in that aspect, and Utd keep conceding goals because players are always out of positions when they attempt a fast break away and lose the ball.
@ComradeOgilvy19842 ай бұрын
@@clementokpala8429 I think we see things similarly -- there are so many simple things MU is not doing right. When Bruno first came, he seemed like the answer to a number of MUs issues; but it did not take very long for him to settle in and become part of the problem. That is just the most high profile example, but we have seen this movie multiple times. Ugarte is likely to enjoy a honeymoon and find himself in the same rut. I do not want that to be the case, but I know now what to expect. (I am not even an MU fan, but I get no pleasure from seeing quality players play poor football.) Honestly, I think there is a Curse of SAF at MU -- not the fault of the man himself at all. There is a large swirl of SAF alums who protect their SAF alum mates, both among the staff and the punditry and the fan world. MU has trouble getting the simple things right, whatever the problem on hand is. For example, OGS was a good interim manager but a lousy permanent hire. Everyone who knew football outside of MU echo chamber could see that easily enough.

Part of the reason I think the United press sucks is because Bruno and Rashford are terrible at it. Bruno just runs to press without purpose and he doesn't shadow lanes correctly even when he curves his runs. Rashford is also quite a lazy player and rarely takes up threatening positions from an offensive or defensive standpoint. He's just there. This then throws everybody else off, which creates that gap that Mainoo and Casemiro have to cover, which just isn't possible even for the best CDM's. Ugarte will definitely help that situation, but I think the formation is also a problem because it caters to Bruno's creativity instead of the defensive shape. IMO, if Ten Hag wants to sort the press out, it needs to be at the expense of Bruno playing 10 and sit him deeper in a 433 with Ugarte and Mainoo, with Garnacho and Diallo higher up. Better have to 7 players starting deeper than 6 when your defensive line gets run at all game.
@kerus5673 ай бұрын
ETH always struggles to use high-press tactic, when you have sloppy/slow/weak front players like Rashford, Fernandes, Garnacho, Zirkzee, also slow mid-players like Mainoo, Casemiro. You should understand these players aren't built for physical pressing game. ETH insisted on using high-press but doesn't dare to push the backline to midfield, he's meant to be failed. He's stubborn, also failed to adapt PL physical game even on his 3rd PL season.

Man United is really badly drilled in the basics: 2:17 Mainoo has time to receive in a big half space but nobody is moving to give him an easy pass. Garnacho (or Fernandez) should drop quickly near the touchline, but he is just jogging. 3:48 Why doesn't Fernandez simply dump the ball off to the LB? No idea. Okay, he sends it back to Casemiro 3:54 Watch Mainoo's movement. He could drop to show as a passing option for Casemiro, which would force Gravenberch to cover him, and he could possibly even one touch it to Fernandez who is open in the middle of the pitch. Instead Mainoo casually trots out of that half space.

I hope Arne Slot doesn't set up like this against Man City; we could be in trouble. For instance, while we performed well against United, they also had several high-quality chances. If they had capitalized on those opportunities, the game would have been much closer.
@mariadanielalavia88773 ай бұрын
yeah for me it seems that he knew united has issues when playing forward and in rotations so he tried to win duels in the middle. But if you do this versus Man City we will get cooked since they can move the ball fast everywhere, far wide and quick through the middle like no other team in the world. The only way to win them is by playing low blocks and make counters or by trying to win the ball at the sides of the pitch, and make counters with the 2 wingers but with this shape if you're unable to defend the sides channels you're calling for Grealish or Savinho to pick up the ball after they pin all your central players.
@PetterStoners3 ай бұрын
Doesn't make much sense as there are clearly lots of options at every mistake United made before the goals. 1 goal the ball could've been played out left to Dalot instead of back to Casemiro, then Casemiro could've taken an extra touch instead of trying a first touch pass with such disastrous quality. 2 goal any other quality player can usually guard the ball, pass to Zirkzee or played to Bruno who could've then used Martinez. 3 goal Mainoo shouldn't have a problem passing out wide as I'm sure those angles are something they can use since we've seen it before. Aslong as you have quality on the ball and make the right decisions there's plenty of options to hurt Liverpool in this setup. The individual qualities this game just weren't good enough from United and Liverpool demonstrated how much quality they have up front with Salah and Diaz. Even Jota showcases his intelligent runs which probably were instrumental to how Liverpool had the right space to take their chances.

@@sameersheriff7078 Some find joy in analysing the nitty gritty aspects of the game. It's okay if you don't like it, but why do you have to persuade those who like to dislike this kind of content? It's very strange, imagine if someone told you "Football is not enjoyable, it's a low scoring game. Don't have to watch this game as it is not as exciting as Basketball who has more exciting athletes" You may not enjoy these tactical analysis, then watch the game in the way you like. But isn't it good that others can enjoy the game this way? For instance, for those who like sushi, some may like the rice, some like the nori, some like the fillings. Wouldn't it be quite strange if the one who like the rice suddenly said. "Don't like the nori! The texture is not good, it's better if sushi isn't wrapped by nori"

Good analyses…. Your clips showed Macca role which could have been missed. Man U defence keeps dropping lower because they are scared to sh$t of Salah and Diaz pace. Aside from Dalot, rest have no pace. Liv CD are very fast especially Konate.

On another we win or draw this game. Liverpool did not outplay United, our finishing was just poor. We broke their press time and time again. This was the same issue we had in pre season against Liverpool, played better than them but wasted our chances. We'll beat them the next we face, just watch
@amitnaik993 ай бұрын
Manchester United had a midfield problem last year. With Casemiro and Bruno in midfield, the defense and strikers will alway spend time defending as they have repeatedly give away possession specially in key areas. With this weakness, you can't play attacking football. Also Rashford should be benched and Amad and Garnacho should start the match.
@eduardobranco83493 ай бұрын
You should talk about how defenses in general are much better than 20 years ago. Im tired of the nostalgia glasses some people wear saying how much better stars of the past were back then when they didnt have to deal with such great defenses

Great video, as a man united fan this has made me less worried as it's just simple mistakes that could have easily been avoided that lost us the game and deeper back line, not the fact that ten hag is an idiot. Zirkzee now seems like a bruno replacement and will play alongside hojlund, but will drop deeper. Like haaland for Man City, hojlund will hover in the box and finish chances closer to the net and zirkzee will arrive later to the box which is perfectly balanced. I don't know who is going to start in the midfield as bruno and mainoo would most likely be preferred over Ugarte. Do you think that United will switch to a back 3 in possession, 5 in the midfield and 2 up front? 🤔 At least it's not only doom and the Casemiro made the game seem worse than it was. fair play to Liverpool, their press was more efficient.

@@winstoneerickarema I have no problem with any those who either wanting to support the clubs to no actual connection to them till death despite getting shunned by match-going fans or watching football as numbers and stats with patterns of play like wanting to be some analyst but you've to admit it that it kills the excitement that our beautiful games ones had made me feel so skeptical about the game!!!Especially with 1. Inclusion of var killing the spirit of the game !!! 2. Giving fouls for minor touches making players more soft removing physical side of the game like before. 3. Commercialization of sport leading to fraudulent purchases and owners with sketchy backgrounds owning the clubs and pandering towards international fanbases with little connection to the clubs for sake selling shirts leading to overvalued flops and transfers killing fairness in the sport !!! 4. Then last but not least promoting useless managers and wannabes as next big thing to cover the actual flaws within the team and blame it on managers who're yes men to owners and leaves with fat paychecks for getting sacked and thus doesn't care about improving players or nurturing talents and giving freedom to do whatever they're good at . 5. All these culminates into viewing football as what you like to watch these days where players and teams are nothing more than numbers and npc's following instructions and not otherway around where tactical changes and style of play must complement players individual skills and not forcing players into adjusting for the tactics despite it being flawed and detrimental to their development !!!

@@marko9463 the passing option was punt it towards garnacho who spent all game standing on the sideline. you don't just let the ball roll away from you to the other team even if you're standing on the sideline. the main problem was the same as last season the tactics we used this year work with mount but not with zirkzee due to mount knowing to drop back,while zirkzee pushes forward due to his natural thinking todo so. mainoo got caught once because of good pressure and collyer thinking it was U21 and could let mainoo do it all ( he pushed to far up the pitch everytime somebody got a pass into anybody in the center park). so exactly the same as last season.
