In the '50s, it was about 15 minutes till dinner time. A Snickers commercial came on TV and I was sold! I snuck out of the house and walked to a convenience store about 5 minutes away, used my only nickel to buy a Snickers, ate it voraciously, walked back home and snuck in in time for dinner. Nobody knew what I had done, and 60+ years later I'm admitting it for the first time.

This is very emotional for me. I was denied my first snickers when I was a child..back in '96, that was. I cried and packed my toys to run away, leaving the house that night and walking the train tracks.. It was such an awful day that the train was coming, and I had forgotten to pack my popsicles, so I decided to end it all WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, it's NOT A TRAIN!! OHH, NOOOO... it's a SNICKERS CARGO TRAIN!! YES, LORD, YES! The company dropped 13.7% that day, but I got my snickers. (:

Inflation. Either the bars get even smaller or the price goes up, or the company tries to consolidate costs in other areas of the manufacturing process (cost of materials from suppliers, quicker processes of manufacturing, energy saving, quicker cleaning times in the factory, lower percentage thresholds/leeway applications in production (as close to the limits of industry standards they can get away with), transportation costs, bulk sales to lower individual bar costs with retailers and suppliers, governmental perks etc)

The fun size Snickers bars are a case in point. I remember when I was a kid that they were roughly a third the size of the regular size Snickers bar. This was when there were just two two sizes, and none other. Well, no longer - the fun size is definitely smaller, and is even a different shape! It's been that way for awhile now. First of all, it's amazing that they were able to quantify the size of "fun." That said, why would they wish curtail the fun of America's favorite candy bar? Snickers the horse would be appalled . . .

Are you sure? You would need to know how many ounces Snickers used to be compared to today. They probably are smaller BUT you need to think in perspective- most comments talk about how much bigger it was when you were a kid. EVERYTHING was bigger when you were a little kid!! Even Dum Dums suckers were HUGE to a child and now they seem tiny as an adult. All about perspective, folks!!!!

I’ll never forget as a kid growing up in Mexico. My dad would always bring a box of snickers from the U.S. it was amazing 😩 since they didn’t sell them. Once in while I buy myself a snicker here in the U.S to remember my childhood 😌.

The early (1939) ingredients list includes white sugar, sweet milk chocolate, corn syrup, peanuts, milk condensed with sugar, coconut oil, malted milk, whites of eggs and salt. By 2019, the ingredients for the original bar had been refined to milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, skim milk, lactose, milkfat, soy lecithin, artificial flavor), peanuts, corn syrup, sugar, palm oil, skim milk, lactose, salt, egg whites, artificial flavor.

Marathon bars, as they were known in the UK, were renamed Snickers in 1990 because Mars wanted to be consistent around the world. The name has now been re-registered as a UK trademark. Mars says the Marathon bars will still use the same recipe as Snickers, so there will be no changes to the product.

@@michellestone I've spent time in both US and UK, and I agree, opal fruits were better, and weren't totally identical to starburst. Also, some Americans have thought that smarties are the same as m&ms, they're not. They're both good, but they're different. I've loved alot of UK candies that have not been able to be found in the US such as jelly babies, wine gums, liquorice allsorts, all of the Cadbury chocolates, lion bar, honeycomb bar, oh and the Trebor extra strong mints

I retired from Mars and making snickers was no easy task, this video makes it look easy but there is a lot of work involved in this product and all the other product's Mars make to give people what they like, a beautiful place to work when I started there but as the years went by, the more they made the more they made, they made it rough for the workers.

Snickers is fine: As manager of several large marinas, I found the best selling candy bars at the marina stores is reliably Snickers. But my own personal favorite is 3 Musketeers bars. I describe 3 Musketeers as chocolate coated chocolate fudge. And my favorite way to enjoy a 3 Musketeers is instead of chewing, put a small one in my mouth and let it slowly melt and dissolve. One little 3 Musketeers keeps my tongue flooded with chocolate for 10 minutes or so. Try it sometime.
