Used this twice now on proper wild camps. Absolutely love if. Inner first and no porch, but great for dry weather. Being a shortarse at 5’9 I can but my pack at the front ends and scooch down a bit. Great airflow. Held up great in what felt and sounded like gale force winds. Really lightweight, small pack size and I separated the poles and pegs from the main pack. Looking at snugpak scorpion 2 for a winter tent. See what’s about for Black Friday.

Great video Karen. I just walked around the Isle of Arran with my Ionosphere. It’s a brilliant little bivvy tent. It’s warm and cosy and stands up well to winds etc. it’s a popular tent for the military too. Agree that it’s useful to have a tarp to make a “porch” - that’s what I do.
@ksgonewild2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow! So how do you set up your tarp? I did try various configurations the week before but couldn’t find anything that worked. Or do you hang your tarp separately from a ridge line and just have the ionosphere underneath/next to it? I was trying to fashion something with a walking pole and little tarp.

Interesting review. It is like a bigger version of their bivi . The second hoop at small end has the advantage off spilling water off as reviews I have seen of the bivi water can accumulate at the foot .end .Also you can take your kit inside. Here on Sierra Navada (Spain) there is a problem with foxes raiding your kit in the night I am looking for something small . Have a Mountain Hardware Trango 3 as a base tent but obviously it is super heavy. In the summer normally just bivi .There lot of refugios in various conditions but there are gaps were there are none so could do with something more portable . Draging the Trango3 up to 3400mtrs isn't fun although I have taken it up to the laguna that are usually around 2800mtrs and hidden it in the bolder fields and collected it on returning from a summit. Thanks again for the review.

I am really interested in this tent but there is only one thing I dont like and that's the amount of tent pegs. Hi Karen. Just subscribed. Lost count of the inuendos and yes, I am old enough to remember scratch and sniff. You're on the horns of a dilemma here. You are using the Snugpak to save weight but need to use a tarp for extra coverage which adds weight. So you will probably end up about the same carry weight. There are ways of rigging a tarp over the entrance, but it's a bit difficult to explain in text. Good luck and keep it up. ( oops, inuendo)

Hi Karen, interesting review. I had one of these for a while and liked it. I always felt it was a bit unfair to refer to it as a tent though because it was much more akin to a really posh hooped bivvy. It could easily withstand a battering from the weather though and was always well anchored down with all the peg points. Completely agree with your point on getting in and out - not very graceful!! I ended up selling mine though for two simple reasons; I preferred my Dutch army hooped bivvy, and I wanted to raise some funds for a Luxe Hexpeak tent. Thanks for sharing 👍
@ksgonewild2 жыл бұрын
Oh I bloody love the Hexpeak but won’t fit in it 😫 how do you find it?

Thank you, yes I tried several configurations with a little tarp and walking pole but couldn’t come up with anything. Thank you for watching and commenting, hope you’re keeping well! Hopefully back in the woods this weekend all being well!!!! 😃

The one I bought isn't that good because it wasn't that good waterproofing rating as I got soaked in it when there was heavy rain and ground sheet didn't keep my gear dry. Then mesh at top in April got hole which annoyed me. It just didn't live up to the hype. The poles and pegs are quality which I liked. Loved How's it's so lightweight. Must be a rare faulty one that happen as I was sold 9n it by the reviews on youtube and amazon uk. I bought it in 2020 so I just feel bad about it. At first when i got it I was looking forward to trying it out in the scottish highlands where it failed. Very enjoyable video.

My count is 14 but then I am filthy 😉 I really wanted to buy this tent once, but to be honest all the the reservations you shared about the door entrance awkwardness and using this tent when wetness is on the cards are the exact reasons I didn't. Girl, you do make me laugh! I think we are the same height (6'3" ish, whatever that is in willieliters) but I am broader in the chest (matron!). I have been thinking about thatvtent, so it's good to know it will fit. Regarding the cord loops on your tent stakes - consider making the loops longer, I make my stake loops as long as the stake. I find that much more versatile, I can easily attach the loop to another guy line with an improvised toggle or tie a larks head. Also very handy when it is very windy - hammer in your stake, then tie two more stakes together with a larks head then loop the two stake loops around the first stake and drive in the two stakes so the whole thing looks like a crow foot. That will hold down your stake in very heavy winds. PS - do you know about washing your tyvek in a cold water wash with no detergent? Do that a couple of times and it makes it way less crinkly and noisy.
@ksgonewild2 жыл бұрын
Ah thanksfor the tips! I hAd heard about washing the tyvek but haven’t got around to do anything with it yet. I’m 6’1” but you could fit in this fine if you don’t mind the awkward getting in and out lol! Thank you for watching as always lovely! 🥰

The Snugpak Ionosphere is made for places with soft soil, and decent vegetation. I say that because if you try to set it up in absolutely ANY wind, you’re gonna have a problem. If the ground is hard, you’re better off trying to tie it off to large rocks which only add to the setup time. The tent stakes are cheap. I broke two on the first outing. I am currently on my third 10 day trip using this tent in the Mojave Desert, and it’s honestly falling apart. The guy lines on the sides are already ripped and frayed. There are already pinholes in both the interior net, and the rain fly (good thing it doesn’t rain here). I bought this thinking it would be a quick and easy to set up alternative to the traditional tent-cot I had been using. Man I was wrong…the reality is that while everyone is already set up and relaxing, you will be setting this POS up for at least 15-20 minutes in the wind. Probably longer depending on the site. Another point of annoyance is that this thing doesn’t have airflow…you will sweat to death in temps over 95 degrees if you put up the rain fly to block the sun. Additionally, the stuff sack that everything gets loaded into is CRAZY small. So make sure to roll everything up extra tight (again, not fun I in any wind). So don’t plan on breaking this thing down quickly in pinch. I’ve got tents twice this size that are twice as easy to break down and stow away to a pack. Summary: Do not buy this tent unless you’re camping in the woods, and only if by woods, you mean your back yard. It’s a piece of shit….
