I would hope so... kid's way younger than me. XD I was just like him when I was his age in college, trying to figure out the "Formula" and thinking I had all the answers, but really once you live in the real world for awhile, you start to actually implement those ideas and realize "no....social media is sh*t.... I just don't have time or patience for it" instead of just telling yourself that's how you feel. XD

Great video Jon. I feel the same way about gaming to an extent. Like, their certain benefits like escapism, improved hand eye coordination, and problem solving. However, too much creates the illusion of achievement to an extent. I usually just make a schedule that I stick to.

Great video. I’m currently watching this in what I term my ‘internet downtime hours’ between 6pm and 9pm. Between these times I have access to all social media. At all other times, I only have access to LinkedIn. I use a DNS service to enforce these rules. This is the only thing that works for me. Limits of say 40 minutes a day on KZbin never worked for me, because there was still the option of blowing through most of these minutes late at night, after waking up or during time I was supposed to be doing other tasks. It’s so important to protect your time as you say.

Other than the time aspect having an impact on sleep, as a complete layman I do also think that the escapism/almost sedative qualities are a big factor in declining mental health. Social media killed boredom, and boredom is IMO one of the best stimuli there is. We often don't do things that are good for us cause it requires some level of discomfort, but when you're truly bored there comes a point where that outweighs the discomfort. Think starting that side project you think you might fail at, finally getting started on reading that book, or meeting up with friends despite your social awkwardness. These are all things that you'll learn from and look back on with good memories or a sense of achievement, but they're also way easier to avoid if you're never bored. Same goes for being alone with your thoughts. Everyone knows the concept of "shower thoughts" because it's basically the last place we're ever alone with our thoughts. We watch a KZbin video when cooking, scroll through Twitter on the subway and listen to a podcast or music when walking from point A to B. I personally genuinely find that just doing nothing and staring at a blank wall can be great for mental health (I guess it's just lame meditating lol).

In order to be a happy person, you need to direct some of your time and attention to achieve that because it won’t just happen…but social media wants all your time and attention and if you let it takes all your attention you won’t be a happy person.

Você é uma inspiração pra mim. Tenho boas sensações quando assisto seus videos. Gosto das suas postagens pontuais. Do “minimalismo” do seu instagram. Das reflexões que você traz, mas acima de tudo, do exemplo que você da. Você me parece viver o que você fala. Obrigada pelo video. Decidi hoje usar as redes sociais apenas um dia no mês. Não tenho duvidas que isso me fará bem. Até uma próxima.

100% to this!!! It’s degrading the rest of our lives by taking up time we should be doing other things. However, what we watch is extremely important. Yes, you might be watching positive content but we know that the algorithm shows your things that are controversial. That you’re likely to interact with etc. Teens get shown more extremist things. We get shown things that make us angry so we interact etc. the algorithm is designed to be bad for us. It’s also degrading our attention span - it’s not jsut taking time away from other things like sleeping, but we actually have less ability to pay attention over longer periods of time. Please read the book Stolen Focus by Johann Hari! It’s amazing
