I love how horror movies are becoming more and more focused on the sound of it, it doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares. Jump scared are welcome but I feel as if many movies and franchises are using them every chance they get. Sometimes a suspenseful moment where you are waiting, sitting on bated breath, for the jump scare, only for it not to happen. In my opinion, those moments are better then any. And I feel as if sound adds more feel to if you are really in the scene itself.

One of my favorite horror movies of all time, "It Follows", doesn't rely on jump scares at all, but it has, IIRC, two of them. The movie relies so heavily on suspense and panic that the two jump-scare moments really surprise you. I was just watching the movie for the third or fourth time a couple nights ago and both jump-scares legitimately startled me. And the rest of the movie is even better.

Foley artists and foley editors deserve more recognition for evoking emotional responses from an audience…at times, more so than actors. The range of conscious and subconscious influence often goes unrecognized by the audience. Beneath conscious recognition, that affect is an essential part of immersing the audience into the film.

I think they got a bit carry away with their expensive Hollywood sound system and forgot that no one but millionaires own that kind of setup. this was a cool video that was damaged by how often all the subtle sound stuff being talked about was being talked over by the narrator. they be like, listen to the sounds being made here, are you listening? good, next... but they never really gave time to HEAR the sounds. the video would have been much better with a little more breathing room for the sound. often youd get just the tiniest sliver of the sound you are listening to before the narrator jumps in again completely overpowering the sounds you are supposed to be listening to. it should have left more time for the sounds themselves. i dont want to WATCH the foley artist make the sound, i want to LISTEN to the foley artist make the sound! a 12-15 minute video would have been just as easy to watch as a 10 minute one and would have left more time for the actual sound, which was the whole point of the video.
