How splitzilla was built!! This is how this custom built firewood splitter was put together!! This is one big, bad, hunk of iron!! She can split the nastiest pieces of wood that we give it!! Splitzilla can get the job done!! If you can cut it..... splitzilla can split it!! Watch out tree's..... SPLITZILLA IS HUNGRY!! This log splitter makes easy work of the big chunks of wood!! You know what it is, self defence ! He's got to TRY and keep up with old Baby Faced Hubby and that's going to be a strain and a half! Dear shy John, yeah right! The old sawyer told me years ago to look for a crack in the center of a block or log called the'fall mark'. You line the wedge up with that split and it's gone, that easy. I split knotty stuff all the time with my 15 ton job BUT I did split everything with a go-devil (Collins axe/splitting maul/by hand) for a LONG time using the fall mark method. It works, no matter what you use. So as the weekend rolls around Dear Lacey, TRY and find the crack in John's head where all the brain ran out and lay the duct tape to it. And in the meantime, you and Libertee HEAL and Blessings yall!

The splitter is a fine piece of ground up engineering, outstanding!! I like Mike. What I see in him is what we back here in New England ( I am in N.H.) would call good old fashion Yankee ingenuity and self-reliance. Mike and the entire Cook team should be immensely proud of the business they built out there in America's heartland. I have nothing to do with forestry products even though it's big business upstate N.H., but I just can't stop watching these videos and check for new ones daily.

I was able to take him out on our jobs when we were running a new flail in 1995 and I knew he was quite impressed and proud but he never said much that's just how he was, I still miss him and his stories. Mike if your ware gibbs that are brass wear out , you can get replacement ones from D M E in Michigan with GRAPHITE slugs in them they wear longer and are used in the INJECTION MOULD industry for slider in moulds.

Very nice machine. you do need to put rollers on pusher over and under top plate. My splitter build in 1979 with 8" I bean where pusher travels is wearing top of plate, so I put roller over and under pusher in 1995 about and using it at 25 tons splitting red oak so far no problem with I bean bending.

To the gent that built it I can understand he wouldn't want to build another but if the customers were there give him an office and a welder and a mechanic with helper and tell him you don't touch a wrench just order what you need and let them build it. The hard part has been done figuring out out the ways and means to make it work efficiently. I'd be willing there are already people looking at wondering if you'd build another. I've seen several large splitters other companies produce and yours flies past them in performance. How is your six year old boy? It looked like he came close to getting hurt when splitting wood for the home but you were watching and yelled at the operator to stop thanks Dad from all the Dads that watched the video and know your fear. Good job! I like the long ram, should not be able to get your hand in between the head and the splitter wedge. Unless someone else pushes the split control switch. Hydraulics will cut a hand or arm off before you can react.

I like that "bill hook" on top of the splitting wedge which starts the first split as it also stops timber sliding up the knife and off when the saw cut on the log isn't square with the main knife. I would like to know a little more about the pump and valve system if possible? I presume the two big pumps are mainly designed to give rapid movement and moderate pressure to the ram both when extending and retracting but do they dump oil or hold pressure or what when the high pressure pump comes into play? Have you ever had a log jammed/stuck on the splitter? if so how did you get it off?

Dan Whiteford the two pumps dump oil back to the tank all the pressure is from the one high pressure pump Yes we have had a couple of blocks get stuck on main splitter knife but we just used the four way by moving in up and down a couple of times and it falls back off. I want to build something similar. How did you figure what hydraulic pump size? I have 27 hp engine from a fairway mower so it will not be able to do 90 tons. But I think it will be good for me.

Brandon Damato I had the cylinder and then I had a hydraulic shop help spec it out so that it would have the right speed, we then had to slow it down under high pressure because I only had a 52 horsepower motor to use. Plus under higher pressure it can be dangerous if it wasn't slowed down, I needed good cycle time because there was such a long stroke. Thanks for commenting Mike Cook

Brandon Damato by knowing how much oil it takes to make your cylinder do a cycle, then figure out how fast you want your cycle time to be. A good hydraulic supply shop should be able to figure all that for you. Thanks for commenting Mike Cook
