How Strong Are Dowel Joints? (hint: surprisingly strong)

I have a heavy, old drop leaf table and one leg of the dowels broke and then another, the poor table did the splits, thank god I was there to catch it and let it go down easy

Use better glue or apply it in a better manner so the dowel doesn't pull out and you'll surely see 150+.

In this joint and force I’d go with a bridal joint for strength.
