The Olympian video was cut and edited. 700W generates a total of 0.021KWh means total time =0.021KWh/0.7KW = 0.03Hr. That's 1.8 minutes or 1 minute 48 seconds, not 1:04 as shown in the original video.
@chbrosz
@chbrosz Жыл бұрын
guys, you got the Robert ("the Olympian") Förstemann's time completely wrong. Where did 1:04min come from? The length of his effort in the edit on YT? C'mon, that was cut down. At the end of their vid, they state he generated 0.021 kWh, or 21 Wh. If he did 700W ave, then he did this for 0.03 hours, i.e. 1.8 min (1 min 48 seconds). Safe to say significantly longer than 1 min 4 sec.

Only the running time of the film was measured. Förstemann drove significantly longer, as can be calculated from the kilowatt hours.

Technically incorrect. Robert generated 0.021 KWh (stated in the vid). Assuming you did 700w, you’d need to ride for 1.8minutes to hit that. So while your results are V impressive, none of you managed to beat Roberts. Using the video timestamp is an inaccurate measure
@MrKipperfish
@MrKipperfish Жыл бұрын
Not to mention none of them came close to staying above 700w for the duration, which is the requirement of the original video. Once Robert drops substantially below 700, toaster turns off. Robert was clearly doing a ton more watts for most of it, and only at 1:04 did he drop well below 700. In addition, the simulated grade is increasing for Robert the entire time. He's not in erg mode w/ constant resistance.

0.021 KWh = 21 Wh =75,600 J 75,600J/60 sec = 1260 J/s = 1260W @ 1 minute Forstmann is about 110 kg giving about 11.45 W/kg

Ironnically, Robert Forsterman (the track cyclist in the original video) was probably the worst suited to do this kind of effort. His strength has always been in extremely short 5-10 seconds efforts and he always faded beyond that, which explains why he never won that much despite his crazy numbers. He was also retired at this point. Today, top pro track cyclist can put out upwards of 1000w for a minute. Jeffrey Hoogland, world record holder for the 1km TT, a 1 minute effort specialist, could probably do even more.

I always thought something was off about Roberts toast ride. The cadence seems way too low, especially for a track rider. The power is decent for a well trained heavier cyclist, but not for Robert. A good amateur can put out 700W for a minute and quite a few track riders go over 1000w average during the kilo and they start off with 2000W+ from a standstill. It is quite a bit easier to maintain a thousand watt average instead of peaking at double the power then fading to a few hundred watts within a minute. EJ did it properly, and it wasn't super hard for him either. Still headroom for more crispiness.

@MitchBoyer
@MitchBoyer Жыл бұрын
Oh that’s interesting. I wonder if they accounted for efficiency loss in the original video. The other curious thing is that his power generated doesn’t match up with the power produced within the time of the effort in the video. He might have actually been riding even longer than was shown!

@@Lehao_TKit’s a Monark LC6 NOVO DUO which works just like any quality smart trainer. They do seem to do send the data to a mystery box below the toaster. The question is was that box just an on off switch based on the bike’s output, or did they find a way to use the power generated by the ergometer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’d love to know, it’s super cool stuff!

The one issue with the toaster challenge was it wasn't clear whether it was 700 W at the toaster or at the bike. If it was at the toaster he may have been doing in excess of 1000 W at the bike.
