I honestly think it would be kinda cool if Luffy used a weapon in Gear 5. Earlier today I was watching a video where they showed some cool art of Luffy in Gear 5 holding a spear. I know it makes no sense looking at Luffy's fighting style, and also how he handled one of the great swords in the beginning of wano doesn't give me anymore hope 😅, but I still think it would kinda cool!

He still has challenges I think, mainly I think Blackbeard will be a struggle for luffy because Blackbeard cba nullify luffys fruit, even if Blackbeard couldn’t nullify luffys fruit I don’t see luffy being able to smile while fighting Blackbeard, same with akainu so if he fights either of them I don’t think he’ll be able to use gear 5. He’ll have to master his haki to an even greater degree

@@yspy_1801 it really is, the whole point of luffy being able to use gear 5 is basically being ecstatic and being in a fun goofy mood, if he can’t smile then he wouldn’t be able to use the power if Mike because the whole point of it is to liberate people and make them smile, that’s one reason why he won’t be able to use gear 5 against Blackbeard because he won’t be able to smile fighting him. and the other reason is because Blackbeard can nullify his fruit anyways. If Luffy is to fight akainu I’m sure he also wouldn’t be able to use gear 5 and that’s because akainu is the man who killed his brother, luffy would definitely be in a raged state so he’ll more likely rely on conquerors coating

Not saying whether or not I agree with the star-sized OP planet, but you're the first person who actually put calculations in the vid to prove that. The only reason I'm a bit iffy on this is because I'm unsure if this is what Oda intended for the size to be as he doesn't always portray size consistently. That said, even if this isn't true, the OP planet is still much bigger than ours. Viola's devil fruit proves there were no islands within a 4000km radius. Luffy is easily at least planetary, at least in terms of ap. People downplay Whitebeard all the time despite the fact that 4 sources confirm that he can indeed destroy the world. If it was any other series other than One Piece, one databook would be all it takes, but since it's One Piece, no one takes any feat seriously, even if it's in the official manga.

Lightspeed OP characters are different though. Luffy dodged photons before second gear, a weakened Zoro dodged lightspeed paws, Niji was explicitly stated to be lightspeed in the manga, and even Kizaru kicks faster than he travels. I'm tired of hearing "WhY DOEsn'T LuFFy JuSt RUn TO tHE OnE pIEce!" Why doesn't Ichigo instantly show up at his destination? In my opinion, the characters who I think will turn out to be still stronger than current Luffy are: Akainu, Blackbeard and Imu (or at least Blackbeard and Imu), because they are all possible opponents Luffy will probably fight in the future. And he will be even stronger then he was in G5 against Kaido. And the other three are Dragon, Mihawk and Shanks. These are characters Oda has saved for the final saga and we haven't seen them even close their full potential (Reffering to Shanks, Mihawk and Dragon specifically.)

I’m at 7:02 rn but there are a few things I noticed. First, Katakuri said he acknowledged Luffy as no longer below him but I don’t think that means base Luffy is stronger than Gear 4 as Katakuri said that after Luffy used conquerors Haki so it’s probably due to Luffy having conquerors that Katakuri said that. Also Kaido letting Luffy live was both his biggest mistake and best decision depending how you see it. For Kaido’s empire and status and life, it was a huge mistake. For Kaido’s goal of waiting for and losing to JoyBoy, it was his best decision. He finally got to fight someone like Luffy and go all out as he didn’t even go all out against Big Mom as was stated in the databooks and neither were injured so they weren’t going all out. Also, I don’t think base Luffy ever surpassed his previous Gear 4 before getting his conquerors coating as he didn’t took some attacks from Kaido on the rooftop before getting knocked out but no conquerors Haki attacks except when he got slightly hit by thunder bagua. When he achieved conquerors coating, it’s a completely different story though.

Couple of contentions, otherwise a pretty solid vid: Pre timeskip Luffy scales way above city level, as both Skypia Luffy and Enel have feats that consistently scale them to island level (Enel’s Thunder Advent would need to be at least 45.26 Gigatons of tnt, Enel’s AP should scale to 1/10th of this based on his statements, making his AP 4.53 Gigatons, Luffy’s Gold Rifle even as a lowball should be worth 4.42 Gigatons of tnt). While Luffy does get stronger through his fight with Katakuri, I don’t think there’s enough evidence to suggest that he gets a whole “base surpasses Gear 4” amp. Luffy was already comparable to Katakuri in AP in base and Gear 2 as he could clash fist evenly, he was just struggling with Katakuri being able to make more fists and his future sight. Katakuri is really only able to barely block Gear 4 with his Block Mochi arms, and he only damages Boundman with his Peerless Donuts. I do think there’s enough to say that Gear 3 Luffy is as strong/stronger than his previous Gear 4 self, as Luffy is later able to match a much bigger Peerless Donut with an Elephant Gun.

The first time Luffy and Kat actually clashed fists was outside of the mirror world when Kat matched Luffy’s Red Hawk; neither overpowered the other in that instance. The next time they clashed fists after that was Hawk Gatling vs Katakuri’s extra arms; the only problem for Luffy in this instance was that he couldn’t keep up with Kat’s way more numerous Mochi arms, otherwise he was still able to match Kat AP wise. Only following this do we get the only fist clash where Kat blatantly overpowers Luffy’s Elephant Gun…and this occurs while Luffy is middair and Kat has a foothold on the ground. Even with the Block Mochi while Luffy is clearly in pain from punching Kat’s block fists, he’s still not really being overpowered or pushed back here. And once Luffy lands his first actual hit on Kat which makes him cough up blood, it’s with a regular kick in base. Unless I’m forgetting anything, there is nothing to indicate that Base Luffy gets stronger than his Gear 4 self; he doesn’t have feats of matching the Peerless Donuts in base, he still needed Gear 3 for that.

“No luffy was no where close to kat in ap” Chapter 877, Luffy clashes a Red Hawk with Kat’s (bloated/Mochi enhanced) punch, neither one overpowers the other. Chapter 879, Luffy’s Hawk Gattling clashes with Kat’s numerous Mochi arms; Luffy isn’t overpowered when they’re actually clashing fists, it’s when Luffy isn’t punching that Kat overwhelms him. Same chapter, Kat does overpower Luffy in an Elephant Gun clash, but as I noted earlier this was when Luffy was punching middair vs Kat having a solid foothold on the ground. Chapter 883, base Luffy clashes with Kat’s block Mochi fist; while Luffy is very evidently in pain and not as durable as Kat, he’s not being pushed back either. Same chapter, a regular kick from base Luffy lands the first blow to Kat and is enough to make him bleed. However you want to slice it, Luffy was always comparable to Kat in AP, the only reasons he was struggling were Kat’s more versatile devil fruit abilities and his superior observation Haki. I will say having reread the fight there might be more merit to the “base Luffy matching/surpassing Gear 4” amp, as later in the fight base Luffy is able to recover from being hit by/clash fist with Kat’s peerless donuts.

A slight correction. Luffys rubber powers are derived from his toon force powers. Hes always thought it was rubber, but it never really was. As you said, his powers are only limited by his imagination. Its also where is fire powers come from. The Five Elders describe it this way, but only because they probably dont know how to describe cartoons/animation (assuming these are nonexistent things in the one piece world). There are just too many things he does in Gear 5 that cant just be regular rubber (eyes popping out; generating things out of thin air). The whole concept of Luffy Gear 5 is based on the Hindu God Hanuman, otherwise known as Bajrang-bali. Hanuman was actually granted to Kesari and Anjana in the form of a blessing by the god of Storm and Wind "Vawyu Dev". Thus, techinacally making him the biological father of Hanuman.
