The problem with the Thing is... That's it. He is super strong and extremely durable, rocky hide and all but he doesn't have any other power. No healing factor, flying, super jump, elemental resistance, lightning calling. Even Colossus doesn't need to breath in his metallic form. That is, in my humble opinion why he may be underrated. Yes he is on par with the other heavy weight but he is one of the few you can truly call. A hero. He won't back down no matter what and he will always try to do the good thing, no matter how people sees him or react to him he will still keep on fighting and protecting those he loves and those in need. It's CLOBBERING TIME!!! And yes... The Fantastic 4 are my favorite group.

Absolutely, he's thrown under the bus for being old school. Walk into a very old building one time, is there orange glazed brick in there? Betting that was the inspiration for his hide. He's a throwback to a much earlier time. He doesn't have the new kid on the block lure of a newer character. He's placed as an underdog who has the inner unseen ability to reach down deep into some place and fight well above his strength level while griping about it and cracking one liners the whole time. Physical strength aside, I think Ben is a very moral and determined character. That's why I like him. He doesn't give up. Plus he was a military hero and pilot before getting powers. That's his character. Plus he was a street thug and punk but was able to turn it around. He knows how to fight. But! He also learns. Bruce Banner probably can't fight. Ben Grimm can. But his greatest strength is determination. Ain't no quit in Ben.

Never underestimate Ben Grimm. With him it's not about strength, but heart. Strength and skill or nothing without heart, The guy will not quit and that is his best attribute. He's got amazing determination and that is one of the reasons why after six decades of having his ass handed to him by the hulk that he finally managed to knock him out last year on his own with one punch. Even though it cost him his arm for a week. The fact he took out the strongest one there is is a huge level up for the character. CLOBBERIN TIME 4 LIFE!

Charles Gorman no she isn’t. Namor, Thing, She-Hulk and Iron Man are on the same strength level. Though I will say...this current incarnation of She-Hulk they’re calling “Hulk” might be a little stronger, but she still isn’t on the level of Immortal Hulk, who can still get stronger the angrier he gets. Namor might be a little stronger underwater or while his skin is wet, but he rapidly loses strength the longer he’s away from water giving Ben the advantage.

They did try to upgrade the thing, But they altered his look as the same time and The fans didn't it. Ben's arguably my favorite superhero. It's a known fact that he's not the most powerful, but I've read many of his adventures over the years especially his team-up book the Marvel Two-in One. He can be outsmarted by ordinary guys like the Yancy Street Gang, but he has gone toe-to-toe with the powerhouses like Champion, Namor, and his perennial Sparring Partner, the Hulk. Ben's knida like Rocky. He fights with heart. He goes the distance, and he's too stubborn to give up. Plus, he's everyone's Uncle Benjy. Ya gotta love the guy!

Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew was always the Marvel char I enjoyed the most. The writers haven't treated him so well over the last 20 years or maybe more. His bravery, perseverance and of course his humor were highlighted through many years of the FF. Then he seemed to get dumped to the ranks of lesser chars. The fight Ben Grimm had with The Champion of the Universe displayed Ben's iron will; its one of my favorite moments for him--crushing Dr. Doom's hands, overcoming Psychoman's fear ray to protect Alicia (both Doom and Psycho stated it wasn't conceivably possible for someone to be that strong willed) are some others. Thing in DCU would definitely have been eligible for the Green Lantern Corps. Fan theory I read once on a forum: Thing deep down has potentially limitless ability based on will power, akin to Gladiator's confidence and Hulk's anger. He needs the drive--his powers come from Cosmic, and that is the limitless life force of the universe.

Ben Grimm lasted 2 rounds with Champion of the Universe. As a sportsman , he understood what Champion needed. Colossus didn't last 1 round! Even if he only equals Namor in strength , He is harder to damage. His Hand to Hand combat skills give him a sharper striking than a low exp powerhouse like Wonderman or Doc Samson. Ben was a friend to Reed and Football hero in college which lead to Ben becoming a top pilot. He can fly anything. So really Ben was Flash Gordon before Cosmic Rays changed his life. Ben never quits, He only uses full strength in a fight with top tier powerhouses. Thinks about damage to bystanders. buildings and ships. not a dumbass. So not under rated. We have just been living in a time where studios had control and the FF was left out. They did DR. DOOM so bad in 3 tries. Don't get me started on the 3rd alternate reality FF fiasco Fox tried to push on us. Almost everything good Stan Lee did in his long FF run, Ben Grimm was there!

Marvel have treated Ben and the rest of the FF terribly over the years. The Thing in particular has been used by poor writers to show how strong weaker, second rate characters they happen to be pushing are by having them take out the Thing. It has been happening for years now and is an insult. As far as I an concerned there has never been much between the Thing and the Hulk with Hulk gaining the edge as he gets madder and stronger. But when the Hulk fights any of the other heavyweights somehow the writers forget about that! With Ben's strength, fighting experience, natural invulnerability coupled with a never say die attitude (also conveniently ignored by poor writers) in my view puts him in the top three of Marvel's heavyweights. I guess a tough, wise cracking, alpha male is never going to be embraced by the current crop of writers at Marvel who would rather write SJW lectures than celebrate traditional masculinity.

Gorgon of the Inhumans lacks the comic appearances and popularity of the Thing but I see him equally as under-rated. The quote him in Charles Soule's run of the Inhumans when he's fighting the nuhuman Flint: "Rocks? I've sparred with the Thing, boy. You'll learn the same lesson he did. Rocks break!"

I think the biggest thing overlooked is The Thing's skill. He had a lot of street fighting experience growing up and limited wrestling and boxing knowledge which puts him above 99% of the characters that rely on super strength. Like a heavyweight boxer vs a strongman, the other top tier strong characters might be stronger but one good shot to the chin by someone that's close to their weight class will put them on their ass.

I remember distinctly that Ben 'The Thing' Grimm was said to be the strongest human being. Which is the problem, he is billed as a human being. When technically, he is cosmically enhanced with superhuman durability and strength. He is well beyond human and should have strength scaling ability. Meaning he should be able to get stronger. And even though he has been compared to Spiderman in strength. But this is unfair because The Thing is way stronger than Spiderman. Sure Spiderman can lift 10,000 pound steel beams. But this is really low level strength because, The thing can lift at least 10 times this! So comparing him to Spiderman is a bad comparison.

I would even go as far as saying he can quintillions of times more! Bruh overpowered something that was going to drill through the planet!

This is somewhat unrelated and also an older video, but I have been wondering lately: how would they make The Thing look cool on film? Marvel is great at that but the Fantastic Four never were who you look to for appearance. You've got stretchy-bendy guy, inherently-weird-looking rock dude, and literally-unseeable woman. I mean, The Human Torch is awesome and would be hard to mess up. The Thing is going to be hard to not mess up. I suppose they could go the route of Korg but in a more human form. Reed is going to be difficult just because super elasticity is so comical in nature.

I think with today's technology they can do it make it look cool. kids like Luffy from one piece are actually cool characters even though he's stretchy. The thing could just be CGI

@@IvaNTheUnStoppable Yeah I think they'll just have to play that delicate balance of goofy and serious. The guy from Comics Explained had the idea that they kind of come and go rather than having their own dedicated series of films. That might work out better just because of how wronged they've been in cinema over the years. Anyway, I love the content! I subbed and look forward to more great stuff.

If he hasn't, he should be enhanced by more cosmic energy. Is that just how he has been written though, written as weaker than others like him? I swear he is sometimes written as fairly brittle too.

Just a theory but when you think of his strength it’s tied to his durability and his durability can be tied to in theory at least to his density. You hit someone with paper vs a rock and u see the difference
