I just moved from Alberta to NB and I can confirm that we have been paying a recycling deposit for beverage containers and have been recycling for decades. HST is very expensive here for sure compared to only 5% GST in Alberta but land is way cheaper in NB, property taxes are way less, and you only pay the higher percentage of income tax on anything above the basic/standard income. From my experience, things balance out pretty well when comparing AB to NB so far but it's different for everyone.

It's because we have less consumer ,means less population means more contribution..it sucks but it's the reality..even groceries ,foods are more expensive 😢😮😮.thanks for your time to explain ❤

There is a price to pay for living in the best province in Canada. Yes, taxes are high. It's a beautiful province and not overcrowded. No high traffic to deal with and our weather is not extreme. For those who think they should have it all….good luck!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and views on the cost of living in NB. I was planning to move to Moncton NB. Having found out what the property tax is I am now rethinking my decision and leaning towards not moving there at all. I am told that property tax in Moncton NB is 1.44%. This seems outrageously steep - would you please happen to know if this is correct? It does sound a bit like a money grabbing province. No wonder everyone seems to leave!

Hello, taxes in Moncton are more higher because it is second biggest city of Atlantic Canada. It also depends on upon the property assessment value, but taxes seems to be increasing every year. We do not want to discourage you from moving to NB, however, being informed is very important so you don’t get surprises.

I’m paying $5000 a year in property taxes for a 1500sq foot townhome in Brampton, Ontario. And my mortgage is $3000! a month And jobs here are paying less for the cost of living here.

We agree with your statement, this is all across Canada, however, living in ON at least you get quality living, everything is conveniently located in most cities. Plus Taxes you pay you get maximum benefits from them like timely snow removal from street/better infrastructure etc, you don’t get that in smaller provinces. We only recommend small provinces when you can utilize remote jobs, like earn in ON money but expense in small provinces where housing is little cheaper than ON.

Lesson learned - do research before buying an out of province and registering the car for use in NB. Did a similar thing leased a car in BC then moved to Ontario. Had to pay Ontario HST instead of BC but I knew that going in. If the income and sales tax is lower in Wisconsin why move to NB?
@ToCanada_andbeyond

Great question! For immigration purposes, we both finished our education from Wisconsin then planned to move to Canada! Which seem right thing to do at that time and we do not regret, as Canada has treated us well.

@@YuvrajSingh-vj5fl if your car is paid for then no additional tax is required. If you’re leasing then NB HST will apply not ON HST. The lessor is supposed to make that change.

I understand but you are dreaming if you think these taxes will go away or be lowered. New Brunswick is already looked down upon by the rest of Canada for receiving too much money from the federal government. It is a free country and if we don’t like what we must pay, we do have the option to go elsewhere. You either stay and accept the good and bad or leave for another place but be careful…the grass is not always greener.
@ToCanada_andbeyond
@ToCanada_andbeyond Жыл бұрын
Thank you for understanding, we were expecting this kind of comments, like it says in the video clearly that point of this video is not to showcase NB as worst province or discourage people to move here. Point is it tax structure can be improved without asking Federal government for more money. Now we have more people in NB and immigrants which means our Tax collection is more than what it used to be, giving some subsidies won’t hurt, there should be a way to create policies that can lower tax brackets for people in NB to attract more people and businesses so region can grow faster. You are 100% correct! Fact that we are allowed to criticize the system on KZbin shows how Free Canada is, I think after 3 years of living here we do have right to point out some of the things that can be improved. I hope we did not hurt anyones feelings.
@onemashedlife4313
@onemashedlife4313 Жыл бұрын
Hi. My feelings are definitely ok. It is our bank account that hurts. Lol. While we don't like paying these high taxes, we feel that this part of New Brunswick offers enough in lifestyle, and other things that we really like, that we would prefer to stay here, even after we have lived in PEI and Ontario. Our taxes suck, but when we look at the other places that we could be living, overall, we prefer it here. It is ok if we don't all agree.@@ToCanada_andbeyond

@@ToCanada_andbeyond Keep in mind this is a province where a family basically runs the province. It's called Canada's only company province for a reason. NB is a province where the electorate is more of a spectator than participant. Any educated person in NB knows that the biggest political decisions made in New Brunswick are in Bermuda and at a lodge on the Restigouche River. Hefty taxes in NB have little to do with the cost of healthcare and other services; has more to to with a family getting insane concessions at the tax payers expense hence the tax regime will never change in NB, NB’s corrupt relationship with Irving was Canada’s first trailblazer for supply-side economics. It brought corporate welfare to a higher level in NB and reduced competitive advantage even more. A corporation’s wet dream.

We learned the hard way. NB made us realize how much we took BC for granted and ended up going back. We found the cost of living too much for us and the access to primary healthcare was not up to our standard. Glad NB worked out for you.

It’s sad that as an immigrant you are so ungrateful. Most immigrants coming to NB are thankful for the opportunity to be part of the Maritime culture. Much of your tax information was very deceptive and misleading. Either you do not understand how the Canadian tax system works or you were deliberately sharing false information. Just one example of many I could share is with the income taxes at the beginning of your video. Approximately the first 15,000 of income has 0 (zero) tax. Each successive tax rate only applies to the amount above the lower amount of the tax bracket and there are a multitude of deductions and credits that can be claimed. Only those with very high incomes pay the rates you suggested. And a significant portion of our taxes go to help immigrants get established and support them in the first year or two. Please return to the USA to make room for appreciative people to come this great province.
@ToCanada_andbeyond
@ToCanada_andbeyond 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your input. However, I'd like to clarify that being an immigrant doesn't simply mean waking up one day to a "great opportunity." My wife and I have navigated numerous challenges and paid significant fees to be where we are today. While it is an opportunity, it hasn't come as easily as you might think. We also had similar opportunities in the USA, where we paid lower taxes and worked for excellent companies. It's disheartening to feel penalized for earning more by facing higher taxes. This is one reason why some Canadians might prefer to stay home and claim benefits, exploiting various loopholes to supplement their income. Many Canadians, like us, would prefer to earn their money and have the freedom to decide how to use it, rather than being subject to a system that seems to favor certain groups. Regarding our video, we never release content without thorough research. As taxpayers in both the USA and Canada, we understand the tax systems in both countries and stand by the information we shared.

@@ToCanada_andbeyond As someone who has befriended immigrants and have employed several Romanian immigrants, I understand life in a new country is not easy. But the immigrants I have known personally are grateful for the opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their children and almost all work very hard to create that future. Yes, we pay considerable taxes but health care and childcare and education and so many other services are the result of the taxes. While I welcome anyone to New Brunswick, those who are unhappy here should move on and attempt to find what they’re looking for.

The entire structure of property tax is severely flawed. It is punitive in nature and penalizes people for investing in their property. Since property tax is intended to pay for municipal services the property tax system should be completely eliminated in favour of municipal services taxes and the amount of taxes should be determined by the services available at the address rather than the assessed value of buildings on the address. It makes zero sense that next door Neighbours are taxed differently for the same services.

I have experienced many immigrants struggle in NB... and eventually leave. High taxes, low wages, discrimination, poor public services, hard winters... You do not come here to save money, you live here to live a rural lifestyle... most people are pretty nice. Ont, BC and AB do also have bottle deposits, however Its worked in to the price. Here its a separate charge at the counter. Most of your information is pretty accurate, good job!
