Which is why turning a roblox game into a business is generally a bad idea, even with the free servers. To get any profit, you have to sell out. If you want to make money off a game, using Unity and Steam would be far better. Roblox Games should strictly be hobby-based.

It's hard to earn enough money for living, if you are a Roblox game developer. In order to get money, you would like, your game must be Pet Simulator 99 and you must be Preston. Let's say you were paid 100 robux. Roblox will take away some of this amount and then the rest of your robux are getting converted into real life money. Because Roblox's formula of converting robux sucks, you will barely get any money.

a few reasons I can see why this is happening: 1) roblox recommendation system is really geared towards the games that have alot of gamepasses, there is even a catagory for games with subscriptions. 2) the developers trying to keep up with the new weekly updates has been either, the best or worst choice they have made, as they have had to hire a lot of new devs to keep up with the constant updates. 3) new player grinding can be overwhelming at times, so below/paradoxium might add options for newer players to skip the grinding, personally I don't like giving new players a way to skip the grind, but it is a possibility as many towers are locked behind hours of gameplay, and a payed alternative can be bought alot if priced right

They should stop doing the weekly updates. The real reason why we were mad of the slow updates back then is because they mostly take 8 months to even a year to add. But all of them are usually not worth the wait because it's mostly just 1 singular mode with a new tower. While that's cool and all. But is it really worth waiting 8 months for that? I know some ppl are gonna say "How about make your own game and see how hard it is to make an update" If they actually respond like this. Then that means they are a no life.

ngl the monetization for the game is really not that bad, its just cosmetics and other perks that arent necessary at all like vip or the spin wheel. you dont have to pay money to progress neither, since its relatively easy to just grind xp and currency for towers (tho hardcore grinding does take way too long but theyre most likely working to change that anyways so). there are some things that are paywalled that shouldnt (most notably being able to pick a specific map which is genuinely stupid that its exclusive to vip members or private servers, even fucking tb has that for free LMAOOO) but other than that the monetization is generally fine especially considering that there are now A LOT of devs to be paid. the real issue with the game is the gameplay, content, and presentation that all need huge improvement

I have a lot of mixed opinions about this, considering that I was defending them months ago, listen I believe that Roblox games need to be cash grabs to some extent because they are taxed heavily by Roblox. In TDS this year they managed to crank out an update almost every single week so far, which is very impressive. I think that was mainly possible because of their constant addition of plushies and micro transactions. But I also have to note that if you were to play any game on steam or Xbox or PlayStation, you will have a hard time finding lots of games that proudly boast about micro transactions. It’s a very Roblox thing to do and at this point to determine if it’s out of greed or necessity, we would have to be on the paradoxum team. They certainly needed more money this year to crank out that many updates and I’m fine with it as long as micro transactions aren’t every single update they’re making. Hopefully they’ve added enough stuff this year so 2025 they can focus on more content updates.

First, you criticize for the sake of criticizing and bashing rather than trying to suggest changes or give feedback. Next, you completely ignored the fact that they reduced gamepass prices sometime in mid 2024 due to community feedback. It seems like you're just focusing on 1 part of the picture and not even looking at the counterarguments. Third, a cashgrab game is a game that exists ONLY to take your money and not improve. Tell me, if TDS WAS a cashgrab, why are they spending a lot of time looking for feedback, developing statistics to help them analyze data, rework modes and towers to make the game better? And lastly, why are they consistently pumping out weekly updates that 95% of the time are free? I don't see the logic here. Gamepasses - Valid, but the majority of them are literally useless. Only good ones are gatling, mercenary base and engi. You're better off grinding for everything else, and even then I'd argue that grinding is so much better than spending robux on these. PS99 comparison - proved my point that ps99, despite having LESS gamepasses and no subscription still costs more than tds. not to mention that you can't even get any of those gamepasses for free. At least in TDS you can grind for them, in PS99 it's either spend or leave the game because you won't be able to get the buffs. Spinny Wheel - not really a big deal. People who use this to criticize the game are so obviously hating on the game and don't have other valid reasons to criticize the game. You won't even be using it a lot of the time, and there's nothing the devs can do without getting hated on when it comes to this feature. They obviously can't nerf it otherwise they'll be called greedy and cheap. If they keep it the same then people will still criticize it for being useless, and if they buff it then it's suddenly a p2w feature and they're "prioritizing paid updates over actual content". It's a lose-lose, so it's best to just keep it as is. Demoman and 600 coins - probably a mistake, and nothing too big. Kinda you being cheap cuz demoman costs like 200 or something to buy, which you can get from one game of easy. Starter Bundle - every game has a starter bundle. It's literally normal, not a sign that the game is a cashgrab. Revive Tickets - i'll give you that one Spin Tickets - ties in to my spinny wheel point. Timescale Tickets - GOD, the amount of times I've seen whiny babies complain about tickets being too hard to obtain or being paid is INSANE. You literally get them for free by just logging in, playing games and completing challenges. Quests and refilling - you're better off just waiting, and I don't see anybody using this feature at all. Below said it himself that if there isn't a way to profit off a feature one way or another, it's simply not worth the time and resources. Mission skip - Most missions can be completed in less than 4 hours of gametime, and assuming you play for 1 hour a day, that's nearly 2 missions every week. Yeah, the feature is not even worth it. It's just a quick way to get out of it. Missions are catered towards end game players, so obviously they won't pay real money just to lose out on content and replayability just for a skin. Credits - Again, they aren't even worth it and were there from the very start. Every game has these, and it would be stupid not to include them. They also SUPPORT FUTURE DEVELOPMENT, they're meant for people who really like the game and want to support the devs. And since you decided to compare with btd6, i can say btd6 is a cashgrab now because it literally costs money to play. Yeah, BTD6 is a cashgrab because it costs money to play, fight me. Map override - are 8 maps not enough for you? There's no noticeable difference apart from insane maps which only strat youtubers play, it doesn't matter at all. And I'm fine with this, because vip was useless b4 the override update and now you're actually getting your money's worth with a little convenient thing that you can use. VIP voting - it literally only boosts votes by 2x. Don't see a problem with it. challenge maps - okay I suppose? You guys were complaining that there's no replayable content, and now you have it... Towers with no robux option - brawler and trapper have no robux option, you have to buy coins or gems in order to get them, and its so much easier to grind for them. Again, the thing with TDS gamepasses is that a lot of them are either not really worth the cash or just cosmetic. Gamemode reworks - "content wise they dont add that much" the fallen revamp added a crap ton, I don't see the problem. Admin gamepass - YOU HAD EVERY CHANCE TO SUGGEST A NEW IDEA. I know damn well that you went after corso, meaning you clearly heard of the admin gamepass and you didn't even suggest a solution. This ties to my other point that you criticize for the sake of criticizing and not to help the game become better. Thumbnails - before I start, I just want to say that when there's something to compliment, you won't compliment it. But when there's something to CRITICIZE, you'll do it. For thumbnails, we got a few dozen good ones in a row like the fallen revamp or merc base thumbnail. I doubt you even paid attention to those and just shrugged them off, because that's what you do. You criticize when you can and ignore when they do things correctly. I ABSOLUTELY HATE HOW PEOPLE BRING THIS UP. Yes, the thumbnails are worse but as time goes on I actually understand it more and more. First off, I'm 99% sure that it's just a meme or they're just testing out new thumbnail features. It's no secret that below loves experimenting with TDS when it comes to basically everything. So that's why there's different thumbnail styles. 100% of people who say "TDS is a cashgrab" just can't provide logical reasoning and factual evidence, they all bring up the same points which are very flawed and easily disproven. And when you DO disprove them, they call you a TDS glazer and laugh at you, so there's literally no winning if you're trying to provide a counter argument.

To be honest, I played pet sim for a few months and got completely sucked into paying for the game. I spent way too much on it and now I definitely regret that. However I’ve been playing TDS since 2020 and own most of the towers yet I haven’t spent robux on it. Good points are made, but i fell like calling it a cashgrab is stretching it. The game is still quality and actually good even if you pay for anything. Monetization is tame enough, though paywalling QoL features Like autoskip and chossing maps behind VIP is questionable, if the game really was a cashgrab then they would be soukd separately at same price as VIP. The point i wanna make is, the devs are probably (hoepfully atleast) focusing on quality first, payment later. The biggest problem of TDS isn't hardcore or balancing, but the community. I absolutely hate most of the community, because they just complain about everything. Nerfs? COMPLAINTS! Skins? COMPLAINTS! Buffs? COMPLAINTS! The moment I started to have a serious problem with them is when they cried that they ruined ace pilot (current one), but it was the most minor change (Lvl 0 and 1 swaped stat changes) in the game and I went mad because they complained about something THIS minor. I often watch TDS KZbinr for opinions, because I think they are professional egnoth to not act like children. But now Eggrypted has made this idiotic video. Im just ashammed the TDS community is like that.

The TDS community point out all the problems but the actual one. The biggest problem of TDS isn't hardcore, grinding, balancing or even monetization. Its biggest problem is itself or more specifically its community. I love paradoxum studios because they are so determined and great people who genuinely care for their game. Meanwhile most of the TDS community only hate and never appreciate their hard work. I will say, at the very start when TDS was compared to PS99, yeah from a "first looks" stand-point, it can be taken as "very similar", but the thing that TDS makes clear if you look at few of the gamepasses, is that it's just a way you bypass the grind. Meaning it's advertising it as "it's possible to get this for free without any irl money spending." That's partially why I never really had the problem of seeing TDS make new gamepasses (like gatling gun). But, I will say some things they're doing aren't too great either. Like the game isn't necessarily "beginner friendly" nor is it "casual" for any real experience. If you want something like gatling gun, it's definitely more incentivized to buy it with robux, as F2P users will take a very long time grinding to level 175 plus an additional 35k coins. In some cases, TDS is fine, but in others, it's just as bad as PS99. TLDR: The fact that TDS gives a free option for a lot of stuff is nice and all, but it's definitely "encouraging" people to spend a lot of money.

adding something to the argument that the game lost it's charm, a major part in it is how just overdesigned and wacky most of the enemies look. there's a weird disconnect with the artstyle of the towers and the enemies, with a lot of the enemies having more joints than the regular r6 tower. another issue is that the game forces you into r15 despite every single tower being animated in r6, and the enemies that have more joints usually just have a second r6 arm slapped onto them to make it look longer. most of the game's designs fall in a weird uncanny valley from trying to both have a military/edgy look, while also trying to appeal to kids with bright colors and whatnot.

The new enemies dont even look that wacky and overdesigned (I can't believe another comment said new enemies are simplified) R6 enemies only work if they're basic and small, and r15 does blend well with the game as the larger enemies need that detail for their design. R15 towers dont work that well and our character being r15 was just for emotes to work. I dont get this uncanny valley argument tds doesn't have this edgy military theme anymore as they ditched that for a more cartoony look and id argue new enemies are darker than before as they have these weird textures compared to the basic 1 color they have before

The problem is that they're rushing with the updates, I don't think developing an update for 6 months is ok, but doing this every week is not ok too. There are only good updates every 3 weeks or a month. So they're spending a lot of money on developers and trying to get as much or more money from players. If you stop updating weekly, I don't think the players will just disappear.

TDS has many optional gamepasses, NONE of them are needed to progress. Meanwhile, pet sim 99, (one lf my former likes games) and really all of the pet sim games Heavily rely on gamepasses to get good at the game. Your points are valid. While I do think they are heading in the direction of a lot more payment options, many people such as myself have played this game without spending money on those options at all (at least up until recently due to my own decisions) and still find the game to be enjoyable. I do not think all of these extra options ruin the experience, however if these options were the ONLY way to gain benefits/advantages in the game then it would be genuinely problematic. A lot of other tower defense games such as All Star require actual gambling to get better towers which is a lot worse.

Comparikg pet sim to tds is criminal. Like i have gotten everything possible to get that isnt an event tower emote skin or sticker, i have gotten the golden skins. I did it all as a free to play too. Usually I would try to defend TDS but you did make some valid points. Even if they did weekly updates with a decently large development team (good argument btw) they should definitely chill out with the spam of monetization. Although I respectfully disagree with your "content update" opinion. They SHOULD refine the main mechanics of game modes that haven't been changed in 4 years or add stuff they deleted in the past before adding new stuff. The mako update was especially bad because (other than plushies) there were no skins that were completely impossible to get without robux, the deluxe crates still had ways to get a few of them. but then they hype up this new ultimate skin type just to reveal every time you open up your DJ skins you now see a button asking for 10 dollars in robux for a single skin.

I have first played TDS in 2019 in the gladiator event, and I totally agree with all your points. TDS started as below's school project, then it lost all its charm and soul it had in the hardcore update. TDS players who still defend the game have become trapped in the "sunk cost fallacy" mentality, they refuse to look at the game objectively because they already wasted too much time on this game. I'm not gonna lie, when I first subscribed to you, I was also like this. For some reason I felt like I would have achieved everything in life if I unlocked every golden skin (I did not). I see where he's going at but TDS doesn't have as bad monetization as other games and in reality it's not even something we should be complaining about. Getting units doesn't require some gambling system like other simulators, unlike other games it doesn't have pop ups for "exclusive" deals (besides the starter pack....kind of), and the game isn't pay to win. You could make an argument that getting accelerator or engineer is pay to win but you can't just win with those towers alone, it's a strategy game. Plus, they need the revenue to keep pushing out updates otherwise we have no TDS.

Let me put this from a dev perspective, and I am a small dev. Monetization- Roblox taxes 30% of robux that you make, and DevEx rate is horrid, 70% cut from DevEx, 30K Robux minimum to DevEx, and 30K Robux in DevEx is only $105, which if we divide that by 15 (The amount of Devs, which some may get more or less.) is $7, which is less than minimum wage, so how do you expect someone to live off $7 from 30K robux? Thumbnails- This part just sucks, lower-quality thumbnails attract more clicks, after an experiment, on average 29% more clicks, which in other words means 29% more players from a terrible thumbnail, I refrain from doing that, but still, it is hard to not. Paywall Locked Content- Currently nothing that changes gameplay is locked behind a paywall, which is much better than a lot of games can say. TLDR: Roblox tax is an actual thing, they have 15 devs to pay, lower quality thumbnails get more clicks, and nothing for TDS that changes gameplay is locked behind a paywall.

I do think a lot of features that should be public are just paywalled. For example, 1. Choosing the map. This shouldn't be paywalled. 2. Community maps. It's really scummy these maps are paywalled at all, and you have to pay a SUBSCRIPTION. 3. Skins. Why, are deluxe crates, SO DIFFICULT TO GET. I KNOW THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE RARE, BUT THE WEEKLY CHALLENGES SHOULD SERIOUSLY GIVE US MORE DELUXE CRATES. It is SO INFURIATING, that DJ gets a WHOLE ENTIRE REWORK, and I'm still stuck with BASIC & MASQUERADE DJ. WHY CAN'T I JUST LISTEN TO PHOQUS'S MUSIC IN GAME!?! WHY ARE THEY PAYWALLING MUSIC?!?!?

Technically none of them are paywalled, you can just use other people's private servers to choose maps, and all crates have free ways to get

Im more mad about the updates then being a cash grab game. The weekly updates are killing the game with more bugs and just horrible power creep (Gatling gun) like when will they actually focus entirely on one thing. Halloween event and pvp mode. (I love pvp mode)

I feel like the moment more devs got added to team and updates went weakly the monetization did start to increase a lot more then it really should be. like most of the stuff is a pretty much a grind skip or just cosmetics, but i have noticed how they are kinda shoving it in your face with some offers, mostly when your are a new player.
