I think the technology is good for football it can show what makes a player like the distance they travel on the pitch what there fitness levels are and it can solve a lot of injury problems and breakdown why players get injured a lot. I think it's a good thing for football

The video does a good job of explaining the data collected but not the importance it holds to sport science team and management of the players so I'll try. Essentially, the use of GPS in football is to calculate acute workload (one week) versus chronic (the average of the past 4). So what is compared is normally total distance, high speed running and possibly acceleration and deceleration. What's the point of this? Well it is very well documented that big step up in training load leads to non contact injuries, but a high chronic load, if built up to it safely is good to make the players more robust. The GPS systems allow us to a. Make sure the players are not over training based on what they are used to doing B. Giving us guidelines on how to effectively step up or taper down training. It's an essential part of injury prevention in modern football.

Think how image-recognition software could change the future of FIFA, PES, Madden, NHL etc. You could just load in years worth of football matches and it could analyse players movement, speed, abilities etc.
