TATA is working on JLR with big plans for 2025. Jaguar has been developing an all electric panthera platform for their upcoming line up. TATA motors also have big plans from 2025 with the avinya platform. They have invested 4 billion pOunds for opening a battery gigafactory in the UK which indicates that they have some plans going on in the background. So if Tesla disrupts the market TATA wont be affected as much. Although i am a bit sad that JLR doesnt manufacture its cars in India. The prices of their cars can be reduced at least by 30-40% with cheap land,labour and raw materials in India. The best part most of the raw materials like steel can be sourced from within the TATA group itself making it more competitive in price.

@@mx6t9 TATA is investing in this gigafactory because their customers are in the UK. This factory is aimed at Aston Martin,JLR and other UK electric carmakers. They have battery manufacturing plants in India as well for tata motors EVs. But yeah I'm disappointed about the JLR part, where they just assemble cars in India and does not manufacture them. It's also because of lack of skilled labour in India.

JLR cars have a HUGE amount of reliability issues. Though they may try to improve it but it is so big and their brand is so much hated by car enthusiasts (calling it one of the most unreliable brand) that it will still take a lot of time for them to recover from that.

And in the electric cars reign the BMW and Mercedes will absolutely fall down. Bcoz performance which is typically a BMW thing is produced by BMW's special M engines which r petrol powered and they're not as advanced as Tesla's in making EVs(that's a true point) so a typical BMW EV won't be able to compete a Tesla's any car like the Model 3 performance or even the standard Model S, the S plaid is a next level speedy. So this EV reign will destroy most German brands like Audi or BMW. Mercedes is still ok, like they got more focus on luxury than sportiness so they can be just good, and we know the EQS is a quite luxurious and quite good working EV. As for BMW, their EVs r just not made for performance and this is a bad thing..

Also true that XUV has a good road presence but it is an ICE vehicle, which our MiLords have mandated must be scrapped after 10 years for diesel and 15 years for petrol. Right now it is only being implemented in Delhi soon this ruling will be implemented Pan India. Can you spend 20+ Lakhs on your XUV and scrap it so early? I know I can't, I had to part my way with my beloved 13 year old Honda City last year and I downgraded to Jazz because I don't want to scrap an expensive vehicle again. As far as EVs are concerned, Tata is doing alright but their tech is nowhere near Tesla. Their support is horrible, battery problems take really long waiting times to fix. And the reduced cost of Battery manufacturing will benefit Tesla too. And like I've said in my original comment, Tesla operates on D2C, this will benefit consumers. Also it might force companies to go for the D2C route as well. Car dealerships are scams, they just want to loot consumers at every step. And as a consumer, even under warranty I am not allowed to go directly to the company like in case of electronics if I face any problem. Instead we have to go to their dealers.

@@mantham343 Well yes Tata can sell more EVs than Tesla for sure. Just like currently Maruti outsells everyone with their cheaper WagonRs and Balenos. But Tesla would take away the premium segment easily, they have the tech and their brand is aspirational. But Tata & Mahindra would struggle to sell premium cars EVs to expand their margins. Tata recently unveiled their premium EV platform which will be impacted. This sub 20 Lakh EV competition will get even more heated up with Ola coming up with their car, Ola will be very aggressive with pricing just like their two wheeler. Even BYD could have brought some good cars into this segment but the Govt. stopped them from manufacturing in India.

Hydrogen tech is very immature, Grey, Blue Hydrogen won't be enough, someone needs to mass produce Green hydrogen at scale. They still have to recover all the reputation damage they got in the western nations after all the unreliable cars from JLR. They will also have to fix their cars and make them more reliable. They will have to invest a hell lot on RND. Only then they can come a little closer to Tesla.

He is not wrong though. In electric market, yes, Tesla might absolutely destroy other brands especially in more luxurious segments. Lower segments will be ruled by TATA though as Tesla will never sell their cars at that prices. And Tesla is overall a bigger brand and more respected brand world wide. TATA as a whole is absolutely great but JLR is really not a great brand and is not at all considered a reliable car brand around the world. Though might improve now after all the hate but still it will take them few to many year to get back on track. And it will be interesting to see what Tesla brings in around 20 Lakhs as they were so desperate to capture Indian market, it will be interesting to see how they counter the current available cars in the market.

No, hydrogen cars will still take a lot of time to come even close to what electric cars have achieved so far. And by that time, there will be more efficient batteries and better way of making these cars so hydrogen cars may not be able to catch up to electric cars at all. It is also easier and safer to maintain and facilitate services for electric cars than hydrogen cars. Though it will be interesting to see what happens to them as they sure have a lot of potential.

Tesla will most likely set up tesla superchargers which are way better than other type of chargers. Though they can be used by other cars but those cars will require some adaptors to for that. Though I hope they do set up a lot of supercharger stations as it will be very helpful for future Tesla owners in India.
