Great effect, thank you! Been looking for this one (or a variation thereof)! One version I have done is where, at the end, instead of spelling a five-letter word... the magician places the nine cards in a 3 x 3 grid and points to two cards, having the spectator eliminate one. Magician and spectator alternate this (careful not to point to / pick the spectator's card). If done correctly, the only card remaining is the spectator's! Very cool stuff!

A four letter word works too. Just turn the next card after the fourth is dealt. You could even use that as a humorous presentation. Start the trick by asking them their favorite four letter word. Lots of room for humorous patter there. I also like this as a group trick. You can have several people doing it at the same time, and they'll all find their cards. That's a great bar trick to get the group coming together before you do your finale trick. You'll have everyone's attention.

The only issue I have with this trick is if I do it multiple times at one setting and one gets clubs and the others do not. Some people figure out that it's just a counting scheme.

Really nice trick. But it only works spelling in english. I've tried in portugues but not only the deck suits have different word lengths but also the cards. For example: ACE = AS, JACK = VALETE. That unfortunately will mix all the maths behind. But I loved the trick

Around the 524 Mark, you went ahead and spelled out the word magic, but towards the end of the video all U did was five of hearts without doing the word magic. Why?

There is no need for special handling of the Clubs suit. Just treat it like any other suits and spell "MAGIC" on the last step and it will still be the card, as it remains the "5th card".

I remember this from Scam School. Brian Brushwood calls the trick "The Spelling Bee" and he said he learned it from the late Martin Gardner.

what still doesnt make sense to me is when i do it this type of way when i ask the person 1-9 and whatever number they choose, i spell that number out, then o-f, and then i ask spades, hearts, diamonds, or clubs, whatever they choose again and i spell it out, and then m-a-g-i-c and their card is there 😭
