@acslater0173 жыл бұрын
@@joeramirez709 I’m torn between all of you. Within You Without You (WYWY), Something, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps (WMGGW) are my top 3 George songs while he was with the Beatles. I guess if I really had to, I’d give the edge to WMGGW. Within You Without You has the unique eastern sound, and elaborates on very specific spiritual themes which I gravitate toward - interconnectedness, a focus beyond materialism, universal love, illusion of self. As someone who meditates and does psychedelics, it’s my version of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, my spiritual anthem. The hook on Something is so epic and heartfelt, as well as more singable, but I have admit the verse can be a little slow and its scope (lovers, as heartfelt as they may be) lack the spiritual gravitas of the other two. WMGGW lacks Within You’s specificity and is more vague in its lamentation. But it also gets things cooking faster than the other two, is singable, and its spiritual message is much more relatable to most people, I think. It combines the relatable epicness of Something with the transcendence of WYWY, so if I really had to pick one I’d go with WMGGW. But gratefully, we don’t have to choose!

all too much was weirdly amazing too even the lyrics had depth because it was about a lot of things, drugs, george's spiritual journey, and of course a relationship breakup and the overall tune and the fucking intro just it's really underrated

4:40 "Paul started playing a bass line that was a little elaborate and George told him: - No! I want it simple.- Paul complied." Funny. Paul's bass on Something is one of his most elaborate ever, making the song even more memorable for it. I guess George's wishes were forgotten by the time the album was completed. And rightly so. None of the cover versions of Something are as deeply melodic as the originial, and the bass line is the obvious reason why it's so.

I actually bought a bass (im mainly a guitarist and singer) just for the bass parts of something. something is a song in which everything is perfect. from the stunning chord progression, the simple but moving melody, the intense and chill endusing string arrangement, the drums that REALLY get the tension going at the key change and paul's incredible bass line. as someone who's played guitar for years, the bassline actually took a little while to get nailed down!

@@chipgaasche4933 you are right about the six drum hits as the 4 beat of the count in measure. Also, Patrick is right because the one beat on the following measure anticipates the intro guitar, so there are seven drum notes before the melody begins, even though the band starts on the last one.

Just saw Paul "cover" Something in Tokyo. He always did as a ukulele version, but this tour it blows into a full, amazing arrangement. For all the talk of their discord during the final years, it is clear from both the original and Paul's latest version there was a great deal of love and respect of the work they did. Nothing was just slapped together, and even though the bass part on the original may have been simple, the tune cannot be heard in any version without that same bass part.

There's a great recording of George composing "Something," and he has the first part of the first line: "Something in the way she moves attracts me like....," but he didn't have the end. Many people forget Georges first hit song "Don't bother me". If you listen to it you will see what I mean. And that song get very little recognition. At that time John and Paul wrote every song. As a long time bass player and big admirer of McCartney, I agree with your sentiment. The bass lines in "Something" are far from simple. From what I understand/heard before, (may have been a McCartney interview somewhere), McCartney was so impressed by the song, he basically "stood back" and let George lead the way. But I don't remember anything to the effect that George told Paul to "keep it simple" after hearing his original bass idea(s). Needles to say, what McCartney ended up playing on the final track was pretty iconic and creative.

The idea that love is an opportunity to witness someone is brilliant and brings forth an aspect of love we often don't consider, as we act like humans and take things for granted. You have blessed us with your song, and your father has blessed us through it.

Very nice; both the historical review and the gorgeous original.

My friend wrote "Something In The Way She Moves before George wrote his song and even according to Wiki'... "The opening line inspired George Harrison to write the #1 Beatles' song "Something." According to James Taylor's stage banter at The Star in Frisco July 31, 2017, this was the song he played for Paul McCartney and George Harrison as an audition before signing with Apple Records." Thank you James!

It's a really great song. Not my favorite, but a really strong composition. As a George H. fan, it is great that on their last album, George hit it out of the ballpark with both Something and Here Comes the Sun.
