A Richard Long fan since the 1950s. I remember that first heart attack in 1961 when he was only 33. I also remember he grew into such a good actor that you could tell the characters he played were different from each other, not just RL reading different lines. He had the charming con man down pat, as well as the noble western lawyer and funny math professor. He really made Jarrod come alive.

My older brother and me stayed with Dad and we spent our weekends watching western shows. Late nights (Friday and Saturday) we pulled the hideaway couch bed out and we would sit either side of dad in front of our 19" b/w television and watch the weekend western block ... Bonanza Big Valley Gun Smoke Have Gun Will Travel High Chapperelle The Virginian and Wagon Train. Oh the memories.

Both he and Peter Breck were terrific actors and a shootout between them would have been fun. The Big valley was a must in My grandparents household on Saturdays and Sundays. You couldn't start either of those days without seeing the Big valley. Barbara stanwyck was an awesome matriarch. She had one hell of a backbone. Otter Barkley was feisty as ever. I love those characters to death I wish they would do some sort of a remake. I was so happy to see Linda Evans on dynasty and then to see Barbara Sandwich even though a short lived on the Colby's of California. Love Lee Majors character also. You know, I think the Big valley was the first Western at the time to show a rich family that had a past. Not everyone had a pass but the father had an another family I don't remember the whole storyline. But I believe that was revolutionary at the time. Especially for Western. I just love the memory of the Big valley. Cuddling up with my grandfather and just watching the big valley and here comes the brides and others just brings warm memories back.

Yes yes one of my favorite westerns. Stanwyck was a tough looking lady. Alot of grit. One special lady.

As kids, me and my siblings ( 13 of us ) all watched Big Valley, along with all the rest of the westerns that were on in those days. When I go back home to see Mama, she's still watching them.
