Music has been heavily produced by people like George H Martin and Phil Spector since the 60s but I still believe that the majority of artists in the 60s and 70s had a more contributing role in the quality of a song than the production team. Overall I think that music has been on a downward slope and it's only getting worse. I'm not saying "The Box" is necessarily a bad song especially compared to mumble rap. I just feel that it should take more talent to actually write and record a song rather than produce it which I feel is more of an acquired skill. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Carsten Mahler there have always been good artists and bad artists. There are many amazing bands, singers, musicians etc making music right now. I believe the problem now is the ease of which someone can share their crap music compared to the old days when you had to earn your spot on the radio waves or get a major record label to stamp your album and promote it. Also one could argue all musical skills are acquired over time with lots of practice and dedication, not all musicians are savants that pick up an instrument and have an innate talent for playing it.
