This is an ESPN segment on how the Dallas Cowboys were greeted or received as they visited the city of Cleveland to play the Browns on just 2 days after President Kennedy's Assassination in Dallas.
The NFL was not sure even to play games that weekend. None of the players were in the mood to play, but after NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle sought out some opinions, he decided to move forward with the games. A decision he said he later regretted.
Of all the teams, you can imagine how the Dallas Cowboys were going to be received as they visited Cleveland the weekend to play the Browns. Cleveland Browns Owner Art Modell even instructed the game announcer to only introduce the opponent as the Cowboys, not the mention "The Dallas Cowboys" This is a segment that features comments from members from both organizations along with media staff members from both cities.
There is a 50th anniversary version of this event from NBC's Bob Costas called The Cowboys and JFK. It is a very good 42 minute show which can be found here:

I was at that game. I was 15 years old at that time. When the Cowboys were announced at the beginning of the game It was received with the most hateful boos I have ever heard to this very day. It was ugly. The game should never have been played. Thankfully the Browns won the game. Tom Bush

I think had the Dallas Cowboys played at home that Sunday then perhaps the games would have been cancelled.

Blaming the players was just asinine

Absolutely, rotten decision to play 60 years ago. Country was wounded by JFK Assassination.

I am absolutely blown away! Amazing story here. The country had pride back then, the country rallied together! Now you have people mocking when people die from the “other” political side. Great story!

Many NCAA football games were played, esp. in the South the day AFTER JFK was killed. Many of the players in the Nebraska-Oklahoma game were shocked & crying after they heard the news. But they turned their feelings into a fierce determination to play their best for the late POTUS. Every player/team handled the situation differently, I guess.

Mistake that College Football played that weekend. NHL and NBA played a couple of games. Should have played November 26th, it was not right playing games.

I have to imagine there was a moment of silence. I think the flags were half-mast. Both of those are appropriate.
