The Clone Wars always liked to show the moral grey's. Just because someone's profession is kind of dark doesn't mean they're a complete piece of Sith. After all, Adi Galia was friends with criminals after all. I would like to think many of these good and honorable bounty hunters got some work from the Rebels later down the line, especially after they became the New Republic. After everything Mando did to help the New Republic and probably Cara putting in a good word for him, I wouldn't be surprised if they hired him sometimes, or heck, even went to Boba Fett now that he's in control of what's left of Jabba's operations, since he's a lot more honorable then the Hunt, so the New Republic can probably get along better with him.

Yes, bounty hunters are fascinating and have some unexpected morals that many people wouldn't expect.

I think the Prequel era as a whole is rather morally grey, seeing how our protagonist falls, and all the people we root for find themselves increasingly morally compromised by a war, fighting for a cause that is being manipulated by the Dark Side just as their enemies are.

I realize that the concepts in the Clone Wars needed to be kept relatively child friendly, straightforward and simple. Labeling these four “antiheroes” as bounty hunters is consistent with those aims. The label, however, is not accurate. The four hired by the villagers to deal with the Onaka Gang, pure and simple, were Mercs, aka Soldiers of Fortune. There’s nothing intrinsically untoward or dishonorable with being a Mercenary as one’s profession. Mercs protect civilians and qualitatively are an enhanced security service provider. They are a discreet special forces element for the small nation and/or its military that are lacking the ability or resources to create their own, especially at a point where the need for a group of special operators is a one shot deal. If nothing else they’re a force multiplier. The British Army hired Hessians during the American Revolutionary War are an example.

So don't get me wrong. I love Hondo, but I feel like his character rides on his first impression of the series. When we first meet him he is incredibly clever, not falling for tricks that others would among being a cool character. As time goes on though plot makes him as smart as everyone else (which leans towards being stupid a lot). I like this arc but I find that it contributes to the corrosion of his character. If he was smart the moment he saw the group of Jedi he would have avoided the farm, try to capture them, or something of the like, but instead he just attacks like every other plot like this. He still needed to be here to be a recognizable face, but him being the leader just feels off. But I don't know. I can't complain from seven season's worth of entertainment lol

I believe that this episode serves also to highlight the failures of the Republic and the jedi. It didn't seem like these bounty hunters were amateurs at doing these kind of jobs. How many planets were defenseless against pirates and criminals? Nobody knows. For Naboo and Alderaan, the jedi may be the heroes, but on the outer rim, there were other kind of heroes, some less virtuos and at best morally grey heroes. Anakin, Ashoka and Kenobi just had to accept that on this episode. It didn't make it that obvious, but the episode showed things like these happened. That's why Padme's speech about stoppong the bill for additional clones have so much more weight, we have seen how the people are on their own and suffering because of the war. Also, as a citizen of a third world country, I can relate in some extent to them. Sometimes the police is inefficient or is directly involved on the criminal world and it becomes the work of the criminal, outlaws and empoverished people to keep the order in their comminities as best as they can, even with methods of cuestioble moral.
