My neighbor's son loves cats and his mom makes fun of him. It makes me angry and sad for him. He often approaches and ask me about my babies. I wish him to be stronger than people's opinions and become a veterinary or whatever he want to be.

Tell him! I know this is late and a lot can change. I think you telling him that him caring is wonderful and you love it would be that good against bad. If you only ever hear bad things, people are less likely to do that thing. If they hear bad things, but sometimes good things they'll understand they're supported.

Call CPS: if his mom is publicly shaming him for something that simple she is more likely emotionally abusive behind closed doors. Our society is run rampant with malignant narcissism that will only further cripple our youth from the ability to be the best adults they can possibly be if they aren’t treated or acknowledged before it’s too late. And if she isn’t doing anything wrong then no harm will come from it considering the child deserves access to therapy if they need or even want it and frankly I personally wish for myself that I hadn’t been denied that opportunity for help because adults that came and went in and out of my life couldn’t be bothered to intervene.

I am a proud Crazy Cat Lady since 1974. I have loved, protected, nurtured, fostered, mushed, cried over, rehomed, brushed, and obsessively loved these creatures since I was a toddler. I don't take it as an insult. I love animals, but cats are my true soul, my indomitable spirit. If someone is going to accuse me, the very politically active, college-degreed, astute and bookwormed woman that I am somehow deficient for loving cats? That jokes on them. Cats are wonderful. If you're a crazy cat man, that's wonderful too. This ridiculous stereotype of unmarried witches who live in barns and deep caverns with nothing but hairballs and loneliness is just false and laughable. I love these creatures. To anyone who wants to insult us, they need to look at why they are so hateful towards us. It ain't us! Ain't coming from us! WE still love these little fluffballs, they make us happy. And we have compassion, kindness, empathy and we know the responsibility it takes to Love and Care for these creatures. How we treat animals is a mark of our character, how we treat others says so, too. Meow Meow to all of you! =^..^=

well, cats are not viewed like this in different areas in the world. Some people treat them more as furniture or beast than as a pet that give so much love. It of course depends on individual, but I understand those who don't feel the same way of cats. It is better not to push ideal of how cats should be treated, how girls should love cars and boys love dolls. It is individual choice, both sides. You are not one to change it. I don't like cats or kittens, but I am happy the kitten lady is helping young kittens in need, a small help toward the world though.

At age 61 I've been lucky enough to have the love of a cat in my life for over 35 years now as a cat daddy and my soul resonates with feline love. Other men feel similarly and two good examples on KZbin are Jackson Galaxy and Brendan Bingham and his boy Laz, the Frozen Kitten. The love between Bingham and Laz is palpable. I am so glad you are working so hard to help cats and you probably are familiar with the organization Alley Cat Allies in Bethesda, Maryland, which I also support. To sum up, thank you again for all you have done and are doing for cats and for people and for bringing the power of more love into this world!

I think that when people tell you, "I couldn't do what you do because I'd have 30 cats", they mean that they'd fall in love with each cat they foster and wouldn't be able to give them up, not because of stereotypes around people involved in cat rescue. I know I would find it terribly hard to give each kitty up! I so appreciate everything that you do for your orphans.

I want to snuggle and mother them all, and yes, even wish I could adopt them because my heart goes out to the poor unfortunate babies that I meet without forever homes. But my husband is always there to remind me, "You have two wonderful cats at home". However, that has changed since my husband and I fell in love with a sweet feral 5 month old kitten that my uncle & aunt decided to keep. We've been secretly hoping to find another kitten that was as sweet as him. I'm so glad to see a local cat lover help kittens here in DC. It must be amazing to work with so many kittens.

Well, I worked down the Railway Sheds and yards near me for 30 years. At first, it was very much a male environment, but one thing we ALWAYS had was our feral cats. Some were tame and would come in for food. Next door was the Garbage Truck Depot, they too had cats, and like us, looked after them as best as they could. While working a District Line R stock train one Sunday, lovely art - deco trains they were, I stopped to remove rubbish on the track. Or so I thought. In one bag there was a Siamese kitten. He lived with me until passing away at the age of 24. Then there were two more cats, and a fox cub (!) I found driving home one night. There's been an Owl too, they all say " Go to the tumbledown house at the end of the road. They'll look after you ! " There's nothing wrong with people who like animals. Our present cat, a small black Siamese who talks a lot, hence his name Gabby, or Mr Pudd, is a rescue. He was terrified of everything at first, but, with much patience, has turned into a little black panther who also happens to be a Purr Machine. >^_^

I'm new to your channel. Thank you for this video/podcast!!! I am so sick of our culture and the media demonizing cats and labeling people that like them as somehow "unbalanced" or not as cool as someone who likes dogs. People judge cats harshly because they can't readily read their facial and body expression like a dog, so they assume they're not affectionate and cold creatures, when nothing could be further from the truth. My older cat has almost been like a therapy & rescue animal for me. I am so grateful to have him in my life; and, I've never been so close to an animal.

I don't care if they call me a crazy cat lady, crazy dog lady or crazy hamster & gerbil lady. The animals I have had and will always have in my home are mostly rescues and they give back far more than I ever give them. Ferals are the hardest because they won't let me keep them safe indoors, but I still do the best I can for them. No one is "crazy" for caring about the other animals we take in and care for. They are just decent people who care enough to help another creature in need.

My friend had one cat which quickly turned into multiple cats and many litters. At one point she had 15 kittens and she had to find them homes. she can't afford to fix the cats and it's a never ending process of kittens. I keep trying to help her fix them. Our shelter did a discounted spay/neuter and I volunteered to pay to get her girls fixed and she refused. I decided that when I have a steady Job and finances I want to participate in fostering and helping cats. I've always been a cat person and I totally look up to you Kitten Lady!

Most were wild because they had been abused by kids. They quickly learned who to trust qnd who to run from. I feed them. I couldn't walk by a sweet little face, begging for food. It is horrible the way some people treat innocent animals!

If i may be contrarian, I'll share some anecdotal evidence for crazy cat ladies. A friend who used to live in Bakersfield, CA lived next door to an actual crazy cat lady, a middle aged woman who lived alone on disability, never left her house, and had well over 100 semi-feral, un-neutered, sick cats who just roamed the property while she opened up and dumped huge bags of cat food on the floor every day, right on top of a thick layer of trash, cat waste, and newspapers. There were dozens of dead cats all over the place too. Ew. Btw im a total cat man, i used to have 5 cats including 3 feral cats. So i have crazy catlady immunity.

All these points are on point lol I have two cats and feed one stray/community cat but I’m not signing up to house more. Cause eve tho my two cats get along they like to piss each other off and it’s a lot of work specially having multiple litter boxes. When I have more funds and resources though I do want to sign up for TNR. I’ve also had a dream of opening up a cat cafe foster home. Half food business and then half foster home so they are able to be adopted.

My cats now are my therapy cat, helping me through my depression and anxiety also my PTSD, hopefully I will always have a cat way into my golden years!!!!

I have always hated the term crazy cat lady, because I am both a person with mental illness and a cat lover. If you met me on the street and talked with me you could never tell the mental illness I carry, and in the mental health world, calling people crazy (or psycho) is just as bad as saying negative words based off race, sexual orientation or gender. I hope someday we can eliminate the stigma around being both a cat lover, and mental illness.

I thought I would share a story with you. We had a person who educates rescues on caring for orphans come do a session for foster team members from multiple area shelters. She was not from the northeast and was trying to gauge the room. Asked for hands of which shelters had programs for orphans. All did. How many places bottle feds in foster rather than euthanizing. All did. She asked what type of questions we had. They were around tube feeding, fluids, severe diarrhea, basically complex care. She called a 10 minute break to get different info pulled up. During the break she was in the hall talking to her assistant, both almost in tears. We stopped to be sure she was ok. Her response "I am usually fighting at these sessions to convince shelters why they don't need to euthanize these babies. To hear that you ALL have programs for them and want to learn how to care for the sickest most at risk ones not just the healthy ones is just a dream come true."

I found this video to be very informative and helpful. I am a woman but I've never really loved cats (I do like them very much and would have cats except that my husband is quite allergic to them). I have a couple of comments. First, regarding the "lady" part of "crazy cat lady," I think you could have dispelled that by showing pictures of men (in addition to the ones of your partner) holding, loving and caring for cats. Second, regarding the "crazy" part of the expression, I think perhaps you should have addressed the issue of animal hoarding and mental illness more directly, as that is probably where the expression stems from. Anyway, thank you for the amazing educational work you are doing!

me and my brother adopted around 32 cats all fixed but it really hurts when iam called crazy and obssesive and that is the least of the names, but when they say they have cat phobia (an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something, , irrational fear, obsessive fear) people sympathize with them, why are we judged for helping or doing something right, in my opinion its because they feel helpless to do anything positive in their life so they put down other people,sorry this is long but its a big issue.xoxo

pretty sure the 'crazy cat lady' is specifically about an unhealthy obsession, rather then "girl that likes cats". like someone that has 50 cats living in filth because the person is too old to clean up after them but refuses to get rid of any because they love them too much.

I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of discussion on how "crazy" is an ableist term, and how it contributes to stigma towards mental illness. I have multiple mental illnesses, as well as four cats. I've loved everything cat-related since I was a kid. I refer to myself as a "cat lady", but I sure as hell would not like to be referred to as a "crazy cat lady".

I was thinking the same thing, and also the strict focus on the gender _binary_ kind of disappointed me too - which I know wasn't the focus of the discussion; it was about the welfare of the cats, but it's still reasonably filed under the social justice construct and I would've liked to see her take on it.
@KittenLady
@KittenLady 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for adding to the discussion! I agree that "crazy" is used as a way to mock mental illness and that this makes it an even more troubling term to throw as an insult. My (quick) point I was trying to make is that with all the negative connotations the word contains, it is an offensive descriptor. As far as the binary--I hope it's clear I'm discussing a societal binary and not a natural one. Gender identity is much more complex than "A or B" but the point I am making here is that specific interests (like cats) can't fit into a box any more than a color (pink or blue) can. Tl;dr: identity is complex and cat rescue is for everyone.

What crawled up your ass and died? Words can do a lot of damage if they're used in a certain way. And what's this about her fitting into the binary? Have you seen her tattoos? Women with sleeves are often considered 'butch' or 'manly' because apparently, sleeve tattoos are for men only. The gender binary is something very few people fit into. Gender identity IS complex too, but obviously it's beyond your capacity to understand. You probably also think there's only gay and straight too, right?

My wife and I don't have kids, so I'm a cat dad to 4 cats. I don't know that the cats are for women / girls is much of a thing here in the UK. It certainly wasn't for me growing up. I like cats, I wouldn't say I'm a crazy cat person. I also like computers, I have more of them than I have cats. I'm not a crazy computer guy. I also like lots of other things, I wonder if the problem stems from society's recent need to label everyone and compartmentalise them. It does seem to me that when I was younger, this didn't happen. (I'm talking 30 odd years ago).

One of our cats would awaken my dad every morning, by jumping on the bed, the same wonderful kitty (Marqui-Pou) whom my brother brought home one day....A good male friend of mine has adopted cats most of his life, and loved them unconditionally... Love of animals- whether of dogs, cats, birds, horses, fish and wild and "farm animals" - is not dictated by gender, but by courage, Love and compassion.

First of all, great pics of kittens. I grew up with cats, none of which were Jackson Galaxy disasters but I thought about adopting a cat but my problem is that I have stage 3 blood cancer and a suppressed immune system. As well I have highly irregular sleep patterns. I am worried about catching something from a cat that could destabilize my already precarious health. Watching your videos is a great and vicarious cat experience, Great work.

Kitten Lady, you (and my parents) are my hero(s). I love what you do and would do the same if I didn't have my 4 awesome pets. I am so glad people like you exist. You have restored you faith in humanity. You deserve to be honored and supported. I am really good with cats myself and help them in other ways. I donate and hang out with them so they can be happy and have better social skills so they can have a better chance at being adopted. At the moment I am really sick so I can't, but I sure do miss it. Once I get better it is gonna be one of the first things I do. It's not just cats I support, yet this is all I am going to say. You are amazing, smart, kind, generous, protective, awesome, and so, so much more! I will be helping them just like you and someday, I hope I will be able to meet you. Thank you for reading this comment.

I think what is considered "bad" about being a crazy cat lady is they are often depicted with say, 10 cats. If you have the space for that many, can feed that many, they are all spayed and neutered, and they don't fight much among each other, then that's fine. If any of those you can say "no" to, you have a problem and if you aren't willing to accept it, that's when it's bad. That's when you're crazy for having so many cats.

The only crazy cat lady I know is the one from the Simpsons, and she really IS crazy. Other than that, I don't know much about this stereotype. Now as I've never seen you throwing cats at random people, I suppose you're not a crazy cat lady :D! As for the gender thing, you do have a very good point there. Gender stereotypes mustn't keep people from giving love and care and possibly a forever home to a vulnerable creature! If you're immune to cuteness or purring, fair enough. But don't you dare to make your manliness an excuse for not helping kittens!
