Kwahi was starting to look like himself in the second half. He absolutely did not make them worse because his defense was still lethal. Mavs just stepped up their defense, Luka that doesn't usually play defense gave a lot more effort than usual. They did not let zubac look like Shaq. That was the difference.

LuKai defense! Not just Offense! Then think about this, Luka scored 32 points of the 96 pts of the Mavs were in before coming to the game. The Clippers obviously know that Luka will play better from Game 1. But still, he was able to do that. If I were Ty Lou. I will ask my players why can't we stop that man???

Kawhi running er stepping at 65 % is not a good Defender and without a solid Base will have trouble setting up for 3s. Same as Embid, leg issues make the Game very difficult to play flat footed.

Mavs needs to be the team that takes the initiative on the court next game. To be active, not reactive. What scares me is them entering next game waiting for the Clippers to start going, to see what strategy they’re using. I hope Mavs enter the next game having figured out how to score more and instead let the Clippers try to figure them out. Hopefully the Mavs can get a +30 pts first quarter, ofc as long as they stay connected defensively.

Great comment on Paul. Love it. Food for thought???? Paul to Mavs for Hardy and Powell. Warriors gotta unload payroll so either Paul or Thompson and maybe both. Now heres a thought. Mavs get Paul and Thompson trade Hardy, Powell, Lawson, Morris & THJ and draft pick. Paul gives us solid ballhandler and mid range scorer and another on ball defender plus gives him chance at championship which at this stage of career is getting slimmer. Thompson gives you off the bench scorer and at times still a great 3 shooter especially with the looks he will get from Luka and Irving. Will depend on cost. But Luka, Irving, Jones, PJ and Liv first 5. Second group Paul, Exum, Thompson, OMax or Maxi and Gafford. Pretty solid 11 players with blend of experience and youth. Good point of attack defenders Jones, PJ, Exum and Paul. Solid 3D wings PJ, Jones, Thompson, OMax. Solid centers Liv & Gafford. If anything keep Maxi as 3D wing and 3rd center. Hopefully you could cut back mins on Luka and Irving to low 30's regular season and mid 35 mins or so in playoffs. Still need 50 to 60 points from those two. But now more shots for PJ, Exum, Paul, Thompson & Jones. Plus Thompson is so use to playing off ball and catch and shoot just think he'd thrive with Luka and Irving getting doubled so much plus he spreads the court so well.

This team does not have the type players to play a movement offense. Very poor passing team and ball handlers and overall weak 3 point shooters. IMO outside Luka, Irving, Exum we really dont have a legit ballhandler or passer in our top 10 rotation. Our 3 point shooters outside Irving are streaky including Luka and, Maxi, THJ and PJ leading that group. Look how Pelicans, Celtics, Heat and especially Celtics and Thunder mostly attack by sperading he floor because they have good three point shooters. So in closing is Luka and Irving ball dominate Absolutely but the makeup of this team mandates they control the ball 80% of the time. Give Exum before he went into his playoff slump we thought he could be our 3rd ball handler but against playoff D being so physical it has completely taken him out of his game as it has Gafford in the first 2 games. Jones cant shoot, dribble, pass but is a great D player as is PJ so we have to have them on the court. THJ & Green are stricly hit or miss on what they bring even before the more physical play of playoffs started. So IMO if Luka and Irv aren't ball dominant and taking most of the shots this team is a bottom to at best a mid level team and would never make the playoffs.

I'm afraid optimism should be kept down. Mavs have a big problem with coach battle. We will see what Ty will figure out... See the low scoring from LAC in game 2. Will not happen again. Kawhi will be better as well.... I'm pessimistic if role players cannot score much more.

They do have a better coach. But we have superior defense, better speed, more youthful energy, and the two best clutch shooters on the court. Harden tends to choke under big pressure, as has PG. Luka and ky get better with more pressure. Kawhi is clearly injured and won’t recover by adding more load. Game 1 was a fluke. I wouldn’t be surprised if we blow them out in game 3.

Leonard is top 10 maybe even top 5 players over the last 10 to 15 years. As players age especially overcoming injuries still great players but just need more help. Curry, Durant and LaBron arguably top 10 of all time and definitely HOF first take. But Curry already out and Durant & LaBron's team down 0-2. Still can lead their teams back but for Suns Book and Beal and Lakers Davis & Russell will be just as critical as Durant and LaBron.

IMO the key to Clippers winning is Zubac, Hardin and Russell. You know Leonard, George and Mann are going to be good to great.

To Win with this Mavs roster he has to be. Remember who made this statement. Barkley played on a great 76er team and a very good Suns team and never won a championship. For the Suns check out his shot to assist ratio he was a black hole once he got the ball it wasn't coming back out but for that team he had to be. And he was a great ISO player and unbelievable rebounder. Team make up determines what style of ball on both ends the coach has to instill to win at this highest level of ball. It's why John Wooden was the best coach in the history of basketball. 1. He one with guards being the focus point (Gail Goodrich) 2. He won with forwards being the focus point (Sidney Wicks and Curtis Rowe) 3. He certainly won with centers being the dominant player in (Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton) but even as great as he was he made a simple yet eye opening statement. "The team with the best PLAYERS almost always WINS". Also one of a very few to be in the HOF as both a player & coach. And with greatest respect to Lenny Wilkins and Larry Bird who made it as player, coach and GM. To any I missed my mistake apologies. Go Mavs. Let's win 2 in Dallas and close this series out in 5 or 6 games. But I'm betting on it going 6 or 7.
