My heroes. I think it’s truly underrated how revolutionary their directing style is, and the collaborative work-ethic they put forth. It’s amazing

Sometimes its nice to be reminded that good people doing good things can be widely appreciated.

Wow, this stuff goes way beyond film-making. This is my first time listening to them for an extended period. I tend to avoid meeting the artist behind art that I love because I find it hard to enjoy something if I know that the person creating it had way different intentions for it. This is one of those rare occasions where the artists absolutely live up to their work and it actually makes a lot of the movie even more special knowing with how much love and off-the-beaten-path energy it was made. Thanks for sharing the recording, hope it reaches more people, this is truly helpful for anyone earnestly pursuing their craft!

The energy + The mistakes + The Missed takes + The love + The fast pace + The confusion = The Good, The Bad and The Bagel.

34:35 “…where it’s like, ‘What’s the point of this scene? Why are we talking about the pillows?’” I’ve said, like, _forever_ - about the world, not just making films - that about 80% of the problem with, well, everything, is that we pay too much attention to stuff that ultimately doesn’t matter and not enough to the stuff that _does,_ what the poet Billy Collins calls “the foregrounding of insignificance.” Daniels, unsurprisingly, have got it right.

i'd have been happy to listen to them talk for twice as long! they're engaging speakers with lots to tell

These guys talk so effortlessly about sometimes fairly complex ideas that you see why they were so good at pitching ideas. This was even true like ten years ago when they were still doing music videos, and it's such interesting stuff.

Why only 45 minutes? The Daniels could easily talk for 2 hours. Guess they totally underestimated how genuine the Daniels were willing to share and how much the next generation of film makers can learn from them.

That was an incredible presentation. So rarely do you see film people so willing to share their craft. Most of the time it's an actor's studio fluff piece and the interviewee rarely sharing anything meaningful besides " yeah, I'm pretty awesome, you're not"

So much to learn from these guys! I’m not in film industry but always enjoying listening to these stories about how a film is made! The Daniels shared how to build a team. How to trial and error and learn. How to build small and gets bigger. How they want the culture to be. How to treat their team members. How to sustain and build the right thing they all feel proud of and aligns with this values. Essentially, I think it is the same way as building a good company and building a good product. I can totally see how it can be applied in other industries like IT. And yeah, That’s where I’m from.

Have you read bell hooks beautiful book, "all about love"? She describes and defines a "love ethic". Predatory capitalism, disaster capitalism is where the world is right now which is why Trump succeeds and democracy liberté égalité fraternité is failing and Nazi ideology is winning. The American Dream disappeared before F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote "The Great Gatsby". Sapiens is in some big extinction trouble, to put it mildly! Read also Nouriel Roubini's book, "Megathreats" and realise we're all entering dystopia. I'm a creative artist and serious high art musician, so, I see what's coming down the Pike!

Good lessons here. Like focussing on what matters. Learning what's important at any moment whether by practice or rare intuition. Most inexperienced filmmakers don't recognise the important stuff and focus too much on what doesn't matter.

I don't think the point is whether it is right or wrong, but whether it is right to impose what you believe unto others who don't believe as you do.
