1. I was extradited to Fulton Co bk in '17.. they told me i had a NBO (non-bondable offense). I sat for nearly 4 months with no indictment & no bond until my family hired an attorney. They released me on a Signature Bond!😒 2. GA law says if you are not Indicted within 4 years from the date of your arrest, all charges must be dropped. The indictment came in the mail 3 years 364 days from the day I was arrested🤯. September of last year the DAs office moved to drop my charge. After spending close to $35k in later fees. You can't make this up. 3. People who don't have a family with funds or money saved up just have to sit there either: A) for months/years with no bail or indictment. B) Until the conditions in their force you to take a plea C) until you have to defend yourself and catch a more serious charge D) changes who you are mentally! You can lose yourself in there -Thank God for a loving family who believed in my innocence🙏🏾 Worst experience of my life..hands down
@john2g14 ай бұрын
Thank you for this story. The reality is most of us do not understand our legal system. Most don't understand: 1. You need to be practically homeless to get a public defender 2. The DA (prosecution) will wait the maximum amount of time before doing anything that they are obligated to do 3. Bail doesn't mean that you are guilty; it means you promise to come to court or else.... 4. If you can afford bail you go free; cash bail only keeps accused poor people in jail wasting tax dollars 5. A (private) lawyer will often get you released without bail or for next to nothing, but you need money to hire a lawyer to begin with 6. Plea deals even if you are innocent will entice you to admit guilt, because jail is terrible 7. It is not illegal for the DA to add extra charges if you want to go to trial 8. It is not illegal for the judge to add extra punishment if you want to go to trial and you lose (something that is your constitutional right) 9. A much longer list... I think that's enough, and most of that was brought up in your story, but people still don't realize that this is the system that we have. Ironically, it's worse than the US military. The military (all of it) has a set of laws called UCMJ or Uniform Code of Military Justice. If you decide to have a trial or hearing your punishment cannot be increased for exercising your rights. It's wild that the US military is more progressive with more protections than US civilian law.

@@john2g1 Atlanta the county seat of Fulton County and it's residents vote for the D.A. and the sheriff as well. Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chair Robb Pitts received a letter from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens seemingly rejecting Pitts' proposal to increase the cap of how many inmates the Atlanta City Detention Center (ACDC) can house from the Fulton County Jail. Pitts told FOX 5 that's not what the letter really means. According to their previous agreement, Fulton County could transfer up to 700 inmates from their jail to the ACDC, but only those inmates who meet certain criteria. So far, Fulton County has transferred 454 inmates to ACDC and can transfer up to 248 more. In an effort to relieve the overcrowded and embattled Fulton Jail, Pitts sent a letter to Mayor Dickens, asking that the City increase the cap from 700 to 1,300 inmates. Pitts says it would be a much better and more cost-effective option than sending inmates to Mississippi and south Georgia, as Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat wants to do. "It just makes no sense to me to transfer 1,000 inmates to Mississippi or to south Georgia when we have the beds, the capacity, right here in Atlanta, Georgia," Pitts told FOX 5 Saturday. So it's a combination of the city and the county to work together..This is what happens

The Speedy Trial Act of 1974 sets time limits for charging and trial in federal and district courts. The Act requires that no more than 30 days pass between arrest and indictment, and no more than 70 days between indictment and trial. If these time limits are exceeded, the defendant can request that the criminal charges be dismissed.

Once again Fani Willis being incredibly unprofessional. Calling a colleague “ignorant” isn’t the best way to encourage working together to solve problems. If anyone wants to see Fulton County prosecutors being in way over their heads, spending literal millions to try a RICO case for men who probably are guilty of some of the crimes, watch the YSL trial. The prosecution is so problematic that even if it ends in a conviction, it’ll definitely be turned over in appeals. That means they’ve wasted every dollar spent because Fani wanted to put the cart before the horse and didn’t have enough evidence to try each man separately (which would have been significantly cheaper), so for personal political purposes, used the RICO laws because they’re so broad. But if you are ill prepared to try the RICO, it’s just a waste of taxpayer dollars. It’s embarrassing to watch how unprepared they are. And I think they cleaned things up for the tour of the jail because it’s the ghetto of jails. Jail is bad in general but Wright Street is worse than bad.

He does not sit back and get behind the ship and let it go down because he’s close to retirement or so decorated with PAST achievements he gets to not work. You got retirement to kick back and honestly when you are working in a system behind the ball such as this, and your elected to do the job, you don’t have the luxury to kick back like a cop that’s done 30 years on the force working a cushy job when the city is BURNING DOWN! Roll up them sleeves and get in there, start making some calls and work together on the changes they think need be done to help the system move along better. How about you actually try to use an intelligent brain, if possible, instead of confirmation bias. The DA has nothing to do with the problems going on. And they were going on much longer than she was in office. But hey, why let the truth get in the way of your beliefs.

All of them are not incompetent their either dangerous or innocent this to me sounds like laziness.

Spot on! The DA and sheriff do not possess the prerequisite talent and energy to function as a DA or sheriff.

Public defenders are not taking “7 hour lunch breaks”. A lot of finger pointing. The jail is responsible for allowing it.

Someone needs to increase the budget. No one wants to pay for criminals but quick to complain about treatment. Can’t get more work out of people who are overworked. Putting innocent people in with monsters. Too many violent criminals. Don’t mix the violent with nonviolent. It’ll cost money. Quit blaming.

Honest question, Hows judge McBurney, i see he records court on YT ? I watch some of his trials,he seems fair- y'all have alot of petty crimes,where inmates are housed years before getting a court date. DAM

I love how I watched the whole and full interview with Ms.Willis because this news edited as if she had contributory negligence within the jail problem in Fulton county. This problem is with the county commission and commissioner. If the two top people are saying a new jail needs to be built and no money is coming in to build it who fault is that.

Hey "Big Stuff" did you not see the abhorrent conditions of that jail? The accumulated filth and slime? Perhaps the sheriff might consider brooms, soap, mops and buckets, trash bags, etc. He looked completely comfortable sitting on his ass. The problem with that facility is afro-administration.
