Jackie does FEWER stunts, but he didn't quit altogether. If something seems necessary for the character, he still does it...despite danger. And let's not forget that MANY (most) of Jackie's stunts in the past were done with limited safety equipment (if any at all). Of course, with some, he might have a rope/harness, but that's about it. Jackie once sky-dived (sky dove?) to a hot air balloon, to repel down the side and into the basket. He dove into sub-zero ICE water, etc. I can go on and on. But also...Jackie is 64 years old.

Nerdnot, to be clear Jackie Chan is a STUNTMAN who kind of acts and to be clear he did his stunts in his 20-40s but Tom Cruise is an 56 actor who does all of his stunts which with one mishap can end his life in a snap, and Jackie has had more of injuries and some life threatening injuries but Tom has had them too and almost all of the stunts he’s done if mission impossible while Jackie has done then of the course of decades while Tom has done it maybe for a decade. 3:58 quick correction in the scene cruises character is actually free soloing not free climbing they are separate styles of climbing. for those of you wondering in free climbing you are holding onto the wall with your own strength however you still have a rope attached to you which is clipped into quickdraws which will catch you if you fall however in free soloing you have no protection at all and if you fall you will hit the ground which is what ethan hunt is doing in this scene

Couple things: 1) He was Free SOLOING in MI:2. Free Climbing has a rope and a belay partner. 2) When you hyperventilate to freedive longer, you aren't saturating oxygen, you are trying to get rid of CO2. The CO2 building up is what tells your body that it needs to take a breath, not oxygen depletion. Which is why breath-holding after hyperventilation is dangerous, as you could pass out before you feel like you need to take a breath.
