How The Mary From Dungloe Intl Festival Began | Story Told By Former Winner |

There are various stories as to how and why the Mary From Dungloe International Festival began in 1969. Its a festival that has taken place annually every year since with the exception of covid interference a few years back. Many families at home and abroad reunite for the 10 day long festival with something for everyone included on a packed schedule. During my podcast interview with Máire McCole EP 83, she spoke of how the festival began. It turns out that the origins behind the festival beginnings dates decades back beyond the late 60's. Máire herself became the first Mary representing Dungloe to win the Mary From Dungloe event in 1983.
