What I liked about Roku and Sozin’s live action adaptations are that they look like they’re from the same era. Older men, longer grey/white hair. They were both the same person for several years until one went off to be the avatar and the other chose the dark side.

Sozin was portrayed as an absolute badass evil person,just as he should be. I mean he betrayed his good friend Roku to reach his goal before this. I liked how they showed him wiping out airbenders. I hope we see more of him in the flashbacks with Roku.

The purpose of Sozin, is to give motivation for all of the following actions for all characters in the show. Also, my brain is playing with the idea that The Avatar State somehow triggered a young Aang to leave the Air Temple in order to protect him from what was coming. I’m basing that on Kyoshi’s ability to see what would happen in the North.

I hope that we will see why Sozin became such a monster by season 3, what happened to him in those 12 years that he and Roku didn’t see each other that made him turn out this way?

In season 2 i would love to see a little more exploration into Fire Lord Azulon's mentality. When Aang was in Zuko's custody and when they were in Omashu's prison Iroh explained to him fire nation's various justifications for the war. "It's within our nature to expand and consume like fire itself" "True stability in this world can only happen under our rule" The latter is Sozin's justification, i wonder if the former was Azulon's. It would've been so cool if different fire lords had different ideas of what the war was all about. If Sozin wanted in his own twisted way to improve the world, if Azulon saw aggresion and conquest as something natural to the fire nation, if Ozai was just carrying on with his grandfather's and father's legacy. Daniel Dae Kim did mention in one of the interviews that Ozai suffers from "generational trauma" which kinda hints at the fact that Ozai himself doesn't really realize what this war is about but in Iroh's words "he sees the world through only one lens, victory or defeat"

And that would make sense regarding what he tries to do at the end of the cartoon with regards to using the comet to burn the whole world

There are some good things that this live action did in my opinion one of the good things they showed us what the fire nation did and didn't tell us just showed us on the first episode the cruelty of this nation and another thing I liked that they showed us both sides both the good and the bad they gave a place in the live Action everyone in what they believe in I think the conversation between Aang and Iro is excellent because it shows both sides what they believe is true Iro doesn't believe it but the Fire Nation believes this is the only way to achieve balance and control

I'm gonna be honest, I don't feel any hatred for og Sozin. I find him a compelling antagonist, I'm a sucker for those. But man, Live Action Sozin? I've had beef with that man the moment he burned that one Earth Kingdom spy alive 🗿 It's easy for me to not have too much hate for an animated character, but once that character is brought to life and portrayed by an actual person, and seeing them commit those (albeit fictional) atrocities, it just hits different. Also, we never really see og Sozin ever directly harming anyone (besides that time he tried to attack Roku), it's only told that he did, while we see the LA version kill people on-screen. Regardless of all that, I still like the LA Sozin as a character. This version made him even more interesting to me. I truly do hope that Netflix will give us an extended version of the "Avatar and the Fire Lord" episode from Book 3. That whole backstory could easily be turned into a movie, imo. 9:20 - Another thing that I loved that was added to this LA that shows you how cruel they can be, is that part in the beginning of episode 3, when Ozai burned those Fire Nation civilians alive for opposing him and the imperialism. The fact that they are willing to kill their own people that really didn't even pose much, if any, harm to them says enough.

All very fair and honest points from you I appreciate the feedback. And yeah I didn’t even think about it but Ozai burning those people kind of felt like another family tie. I imagine a Azulon probably burned some people too.

Another thing, remembered that Zuko’s family tree. Both Avatar Roku is on Zuko’s mother side of the family tree. Zuko knew that the next Avatar is a airbender.

I’m not sure what the point here is being made for given that even if that was the case the fire nation as a whole knew that the next avatar was an airbender
@EdaLin2668 ай бұрын
I think the crack started with Iroh but it was too late for him to make a difference, but he molded Zuko in a very gentle ‘letting him learn from he’s own mistakes” kinda way so he ended up making a difference

The Netflix show is most definitely more dark and more revealing on how cruel the fire nation really was compared to the original. The massacre at the air temple was nuts… and I didn’t realize til the second time watching that sozin was the one who killed gyatso… but I can’t hate sozin too much, I named my German Shepard after him. According to the cartoon had more children, and according to the canon there’s more airbenders from other air temples survived. Remember Ty Lee, it is possible that she's related to airbender but her own mother is unbender. But who’s Ty Lee’s father. And it's possible that Ty Lee is a cousin to Azula and Zuko.

I just finished season 2 of the animated series. The actresses playing team Azula really need to step up their game. Azula is the best villain on the show period and Ms. Yu really needs to step up her acting for me to believe she is Azula. I am interested in seeing how they pull of Toph in live action. What a complicated character to do in live action.
@uncleirohsteashop8 ай бұрын
I’ll admit I do need to see a little bit more from the actresses of the Azula group. I do like the girl who plays Ty Lee though I won’t back away from that. Mai and Azula I saw hints of what they could do but I need more.
@davidalexander-dhs-baltimo27088 ай бұрын
I am being tough on Team Azula because I was so impressed with Suki and the Warriors. We all know how important that confrontation between the warriors and team Azula is to season 2. Mai is almost ninja like with her knives and Ty Lee as fast as lightning with her Chi blocking. Yu has the look of Azula but I need to see more with her acting.
