I’m not opposed to taxes, but right now life feels really hard and the idea of having to pay taxes on gains on an asset where authorities have done their hardest to stop me investing in (operation chokepoint etc) really sticks in the thought. They call it gambling and restrict how much money I can send to exchanges (under the patronising guise of consumer protection) yet I can spunk as much as I want in gambling websites and you don’t pay tax on gambling wins up to 1mill I believe. Pick a fucking lane - help us invest and justify your tax or if you’re gonna hinder us, don’t ask for taxes. Feels really messed up

@@BasslineHeavy The reality is the banking system doesn’t really care or want your otherwise bank deposits going into investments where there isn’t a third party. There’s no incentive there for them, they need your deposits to invest and issue loans to keep themselves relevant.

❤£239,280. Because you get a tax free allowance of £3000(!!!). But basically yes. As Allin mentions, this used to be £12500 but it was reduced first to £6k, then £3k by the last government. You'd have still paid about £200k on £1m. Now you are (theoretically) paying an extra approx £40k. The hardship this will cause people is incalculable, but is probably close to 0. I am sure we will all make a big social media rant about how much tax we pay when we cash out and how many times we have paid tax on the same money (income, vat, cgt, fuel duty, stamp duty etc.) But the pain will be dulled by the £760,720 in our bank accounts, I am sure. Paying tax sucks but at least we'll be (comparitively) rich so it won't matter. If you're (working) poor, paying tax is a real shitter, because you probably really needed that money you just got taxed.
