It just shows how much respect the prophet had for water that he said don’t use a lot and don’t waste it even if your at a running stream. In comparison with us today we probably use over 3 litres for a single wudhu . Just shows how ungrateful we are that we take Water for granted.

C C wasting resources is not good in Islam.(water is a resource). So yes we should keep in account to not use too much water. You do not have a clue how many countries are there with little or no clean water. If people follow Islam's teaching there won't be such situations existing now. Praise be to Allah Firstly: The essential parts (“pillars”) of wudoo’ are six: 1. Washing the face, of which the mouth and nose are part. 2. Washing the arms up to the elbows. 3. Wiping the head. 4. Washing the feet up to the ankles. 5. Washing these parts of the body in the proper order. 6. Doing these actions consecutively (that is, washing one after the other, with no lengthy lapse of time in between). Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles” [al-Maa’idah 5:6]. See: ar-Rawd al-Murbi‘ ma‘a Haashiyat Ibn Qaasim (1/181-188). Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: What is meant by the obligatory (fard) parts of wudoo’ here is the essential parts (pillars). Thus we may understand that the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) use different expressions, so they may describe the obligatory (fard) parts as essential parts (arkaan, lit. pillars) and vice versa. End quote from ash-Sharh al-Mumti‘(1/183). We have mentioned previously that fard is the same as waajib [both mean obligatory] according to the majority of scholars. See question no. 127742. So the obligatory (waajib) parts of wudoo’ are its pillars or essential parts, which may also be described as fard. They are the actions without which wudoo’ cannot be valid. With regard to saying Bismillaah before doing wudoo’, Imam Ahmad was of the view that it is obligatory. However, the majority of scholars are of the view that it is one of the Sunnahs of wudoo’ and is not obligatory. This has been discussed previously, in fatwa no. 21241. Secondly: The sunnahs of wudoo’ are numerous. Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) said: The sunnahs of wudoo’ are as follows: 1. Using siwaak, which is to be done when rinsing the mouth, so that by means of the siwak and rinsing the mouth, the mouth will be cleansed for worship and be prepared for recitation of Qur’an and conversing with Allah, may He be glorified and exalted. 2. Washing the hands three times when starting wudoo’, before washing the face, because of the hadiths which speak of that, and because the hands are the tools used to transport water to the other parts of the body, so washing them is prudent action before proceeding with wudoo’. 3. Starting by rinsing the mouth and nose before washing the face, because starting with them is mentioned in the hadiths; and one should do them thoroughly when not fasting. What is meant by washing the mouth thoroughly is circulating water to all parts of the mouth, and when rinsing the nose it means taking up water to the deepest part of the nose. 4. In the case of a thick beard, ensuring that water reaches throughout; and making sure that water gets in between the fingers and toes. 5. Starting on the right in the case of the hands/arms and feet, before the left. 6. Washing more than once, up to three times, when washing the face, hands/arms and feet. End quote from al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhi(1/44-45). Another Sunnah is wiping the ears, according to the majority of scholars. Imam Ahmad was of the view that wiping them is obligatory. This has been discussed previously in fatwa no. 115246. After doing wudoo’, it is mustahabb to recite the following supplication: Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu was rasooluhu. Allaahumm aj’alni min al-tawwaabeena waj’alni min al-mutatahhireena, subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bi hamdika, ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayka(I bear witness that there is no god except Allah alone, with no partner or associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. O Allah, make me one of those who repent and make me one of those who purify themselves. Glory and praise be to You, O Allah, I bear witness that there is no god but You, I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You). For a complete description of wudoo’, please see fatwa no. 11497. Alhamdu llah.. I was just looking for a video to teach me how to make wodoo with little amount of water as possible and i found this video.. It was beneficial but i wish it was possible to show the amount of water used to wash every part of our body specially the feet.. I noticed how brother Ali washed his arm by putting some water in his balm and raised it a bit so the water slides down from the balm to achieve Ghasl "wash" then Dalk "massage" after water slided.. The niyyah is faradh according to imam shafee. He said, in the mentioned hadeeth the niyaah equates the completion of the intended action. Salaam brother I think both are allowed but is preffered to use pinky finger as in islam we should eat using our right hand with thumb and 2 fingers so therefore for feet is best to use left hand any finger I would say or right hand only pinky because thumb is used for eating this is my opinion. Comprehend Arabic? I don’t quote anything from the Prophet. You seem to have not read what i said. Scholars, they have a difference in opinion in this matter. These scholars have studied the Hadith text and have provided there opinions some for, some against and some upon condition. If you want to wash your feet, wash them. If you want to wear leather socks wipe over them then do so. If you want to wear cotton socks and wipe of them, be my guest.

سنن الترمذي - كِتَاب الطَّهَارَةِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بَاب مَا جَاءَ فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْجَوْرَبَيْنِوَالنَّعْلَيْ Sunan at-Tirmidhee: Book of Purification: from the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu `alaihi wassallam): Chapter: That which has been reported concerning wiping over the Socks and Shoes [or Sandals]. حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِي قَيْسٍ عَنْ هُزَيْلِ بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ عَنْالْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ تَوَضَّأَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى الْجَوْرَبَيْنِ وَالنَّعْلَيْنِ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ Mugheerah Ibn Shu`bah (radiyallaahu `anhu) said: The Prophet (salallaahu `alaihi wassallam) made wudhoo and he wiped over his socks and shoes [or sandals]. Abu `Eesaa at-Tirmidhee graded the Hadeeth as Hasan-Saheeh (i.e. authentic). Also Abu Dawood in his Sunan: Chapter 61: Wiping Over The Socks, Hadeeth number 159: From Mugheerah Ibn Shu`bah: The Prophet (salallaahu `alaihi wassallam) made wudhoo and he wiped over his socks and shoes [or sandals]. Abu Dawood said: This has also been narrated from Abu Moosaa al-Ash`aree (radiyallaahu `anhu) - and from Abu Mas`ood, al-Baraa Ibn `Aazib, Anas Ibn Maalik, Abu Umaamah, Sahl Ibn Sa`d, `Amr Ibn Huraith, `Umar Ibn Khattaab and Ibn `Abbaas (radiyallaahu `anhum). Shaikh Al-Albaanee (rahimahullaah) graded these narrations in Abu Dawood as being authentic. These narrations are also reported by Ibn Maajah in as-Sunan (559), an-Nasaa’ee in al-Kubraa (130), al-Bayhaqee in al-Kubraa (1260), Ibn Hibbaan in his Saheeh (4/167), Ibn Abee Shaybah in his Musannaf (1973), Tabaraanee in al-Kabeer (20/415). And many others. This is a clear response to those blind-followers of the Hanafee Madh-hab who adamantly refuse to accept the legitimacy of wiping over the footwear for the resident [and even the traveller]. They try to find any and every excuse to avoid acting upon the hadeeth due to their fanaticism for the Madh-hab. So they will say the Sunnah is “leather khuffayn” and not socks, shoes or sandals. Alhamdulillaah for the love of the Sunnah.

Subhaan Hussain the 4 madhabs differ slightly on what is sunnah in prayer. For example malikis believe it’s sunnah to pray with hands on side, while shafi’is and hanbalis believe the hands should be folded on chest etc. But they all follow the same obligatory parts of salah.

So here is the issue that needs to be clarified:Many people use the abbreviation “SAW,” “SAWS,” or “PBUH” to fulfill this obligation in their writing. Is this something that fulfills the obligation of sending the salaah and salaam on the Messenger? Let us look now to some of the statements of the scholars regarding this practice. The Permanent Committee of Scholars in Saudi Arabia headed by ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abdillaah ibn Baaz issued the following verdict when asked about the validity of abbreviating the salaah on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam): “The Sunnah is to write the entire phrase “sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam,” since it is a kind of supplication, and supplication is worship, (in one’s writing) just as it is in one’s speech. So to abbreviate it using the letter SAAD or the word SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM is not a supplication nor is it worship, whether it occurs in speech or writing. For this reason, this abbreviation was not used by the the first three generations, those that the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) testified to their goodness.” [8] “SAAD” and “SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM” are often used in some Arabic books. The English equivalents of these abbreviations would be: SAW, SAWS, SAAWS, PBUH, and the likes. Al-Fayrooz-Abaadee said, “It is not appropriate to use symbols or abbreviations to refer to salaah and salaam, as some of the lazy ones do, as well as some ignorant people and even some students of knowledge - they write ‘SAAD-LAAM-‘AYN-MEEM’ instead of writing ‘sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam.'” [9] Ahmad Shaakir said, “It is the absurd tradition of some of the later generations that they abbreviate the writing of ‘sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam.'” [10] Wasee Allaah ‘Abbaas said, “It is not permissible to abbreviate the salaams in general in one’s writing, just as it is not permissible to abbreviate the salaah and salaam on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam). It is also not permissible to abbreviate either of these in one’s speech.” [11] And Allaah knows best.
