The older gentleman Paul Miller has a major point.. Im 18 years old and I've been around pigeons most of my life.. I've just recently in the last few months started getting into raising these birds just because my grandpa is getting up there in age and these birds are really the only thing me and him have shared in common.. none of my other siblings really care for the birds but one day that's all I'm going to remember my grandpa by.. the birds have become sentimental to me in the last few months.. a lot my friends are like "What? Pigeons??" Because they know what they are but nobody my age really thinks of them as pets or domesticated animals.. So they are amazed to look into my coop and see a bunch of birds flying around
@shockerjason5 жыл бұрын
That's a nice story. I'm just here because one of my clients mentioned being retired earlier, and just kind of to make small talk I asked him what he does with all of his free time and asked if he had any hobbies. I had to ask him 3 times if I was hearing him right when he said he raced pigeons lmao. It's certainly not something you hear every day, which was honestly nice, since I just thought we were gonna make boring small talk, and I ended up learning something rather fascinating that I didn't even know was a thing.
@AkaBigRichard215 жыл бұрын
@@shockerjason exactly.. racing dogs and horses is one thing because you can contain the animal and train it to do what you want them to.. With birds they do what they want and to go home just so happens to be what they want.. I'm gonna take a couple birds about 100 miles away next summer and set them free just as an experiment.. These birds have never been outside of their bird coop.. if they can make it home at that distance without leaving their coop before their flight.. that's an amazing creature

Most young people are not interested in animals anymore am 57 now and been animal mad my whole life. I’ve had pigeons since been 9 years old mostly fancy bird then racing pigeons when I was in my early 20s . Then started flying peregrine falcons as game hawks at duck and pheasant and partridge. There’s nothing better than been at one with nature a lot better than computers stuck in your bedroom. Keep at it guys

Maybe this is a stupid question but I don’t really know anything about pigeon racing however I’m interested in learning. How do you know who won if the pigeons are all flying back to their home? Wouldn’t it be different distances for all of the birds depending on where their loft is? Also who determines the winner?

The winner is based on average speed.

Maybe you can help us! I work at the Humane Society of Camden County and we just recently had a racing pigeon come in with a hurt/broken wing, when we looked up where he is supposed to be, it said way in Florida! The woman who brought him in said he was walking around confused and stumbling. Now my job knows nothing about birds, so I took him with me since I have owned pigeons and doves and other birds, but we can't get ahold of the people that are supposed to own him, any advice?

Joshua Parkhill all handheld, and tripod! One thing you can do is pull the camera away from your chest with the strap around your neck. It acts as a third point of contact for camera stability.
@LoganGardner6 жыл бұрын
Joshua Parkhill also a little bit of warp stabilizer in premiere goes a long way... but don’t overuse it!!! I cannot stress enough. Footage begins to look like jello if it’s overly stabilized.
