Bangladesh’s beaches are the final frontier for freighters that are to be scrapped. Much of this work is carried out by locals, and ship scrapping is a large industry in Bangladesh, with over 70 scrapping centres. Working conditions are some of the worst, and the scrapping costs are extremely low. Because of this, there are few regulations, so accidents, deaths and improper toxic waste management are a regular occurrence.

these ship breakers purchase these ships from around the world to make huge profit from the salvage and items on the vessels . its often their only income and they need it to survive .if they can't control the pollution they created by breaking the ships then they need to stop this trade and give the ships to contrys like Canada and Norway who can do this with little or no toxic pollution because they actually invest into eco projects unlike India who are only looking at the profit without a care for the planet .the shipping industry are in no way to blame for greed over profit from calls breakers who operate like cowboys

It seems pretty ridiculous to watch a fundraising documentary where a part of the story is detailing how these families with 6 or more children lose their "breadwinner" and the company cuts ties or doesnt provide any kind of pension or support and the money from the fundraiser goes to another crooked azz country like Ukraine. Buuuuut, its very hard to feel sympathy for people that have been in extreme poverty for well over a century and dont see the issue with having even one child... let alone 6 or more! I dont know whats more extreme, the level of poverty in some places or the blatant ignorance of those people!

Finally someone other than me says it….I watched a documentary on Indias poverty problem and I see this man all upset saying life isn’t fair and he can’t provide for his family, he’s living in a one room hut that’s handmade he invites the camera in and there’s 9 kids…..DUUUUUHHHHH sirrrr even in first world middle class situations birth rates are down and one of the driving factors is we think HMMMMMM I can barely provide for myself…. LEMME NOTTTTT HAVE CHILDREN

And in the first world workers and activists cry about micro aggressions and non binary bathrooms. These shipbreakers are very happy to even have these jobs. Compared to no work at all. Nearly every source of employment has someone who cries foul.

India's desperation continues to transfer this last quarter of ship breaking business from Bangladesh to India. That's why we all the foreign vloggers womdering around craps at Dhaka and then end up sneaking around the ship breaking yards of Chittagong. Wallahu Aalam.

Ignorance plus lack of funds for family planning and exhaustion having been treated like virtual slaves. Post accident being abandoned by their unscrupulous employers, government and the ship owners. Each of these should be forced to provide health centres and free hospital treatment via a specific, accountable tax/fund. Enforced family planning education and free contraceptives. These people are dirt poor and vulnerable, bless them. THEY are certainly not to blame.

A tad on the appalling side. Poor bastards. All about the money, (as are most, if not all, industries), as are all corporates. I bet a few of those ships have several, if not more than that, lives left in them. Wonder what a ship like that sells for as scrap? This is why I don't eat seafood. Ho-hum.
@frowertr1
@frowertr1 Жыл бұрын
You don’t eat seafood because…. You don’t want the ship that caught the seafood to end up in India? Lol. Do you buy anything? Like cars or TVs or computers, or fuel, or ANYTHING FROM CHINA?? Because all of that shit came on freighters that end up in India for ship breaking. The seafood you claim you don’t eat? Well none of those small fishing boats end up in India. Get a clue dude.

It's about the workers, and the wasted resources. I should have also mentioned pollution... China - WTF are you on about? Small fishing boats? Same comment.
