@@Best_buddys_alex I suppose they do. Modern cashiers also need permission from machines to make a sale. The villagers technically are completely vulnerable on their own. There are only so many places an iron golem can be at a time, while zombies manage to get into the areas they aren't at. Meanwhile skeletons spawn up high out of reach and fire down on them. At least in Halo when you decide you want to try to keep the non spartans alive they somewhat shoot back at the covenant.

In my book I think wandering villagers are lone survivors that made it out of a zombie breakout or something like that. That’s why their wandering traders. They have layers of clothes to help them survive. It’s trade are overpriced for a reason. Being lone villagers traveling to get them would be super hard and exhausting. You’re not paying for items rather the the hard work they have done
