good stuff. being early to the party (aka picking tops and bottoms) can be done if you are an aggressive trader with some sort of plan. your stops tend to be very tight whereas someone who comes late to the party will have to use a very big stop. bigger stop means smaller position and it also means you take too long to be proven wrong, which can be a problem to some people :)

Swing Trader plays the weekly key levels against primary trend so therefore executes at value within secondary trend. Position traders execute and defend the deep value key monthly levels and then day traders well there known professionally as scalpers as they close a trade within 7 days. Long term investors is a minimum of 12 months to hold a position. Day Traders are Scalpers by definition, retail think scalpers are measure by small pips and small time in the trade~ that’s not right a scalper definition is that you open and close a trade within 7 days

@@dennissherman863 interesting, but im talking about trading chart patterns. Any chart pattern will have a top or bottom where one can enter before there's any confirmation that the trend has indeed ended, i.e before the pattern breaks out. I guess the main point I got was that the Impulse Wave 4 retracement is the best position to take a position. I wasn't sure how he got CONFIRMATION it was indeed Wave 4 retracement ( e.g. parallel lines test is hard to chart for the newbie ).
@michaelk22762 жыл бұрын
He charted the abc pattern of wave 4 on a smaller time frame. Wave c of 4 was a nice ending diagonal pattern, so a very good indication that the end of 4 is near. He then waits for a small break to the upside, consisting of 5 microwaves up and 3 down on a 1' chart or so, basically forming a new i-ii of expected wave 5 that indicates that the impulse up is continuing. He enters a long position at the 3 microwaves down for ii, with the stop loss just below c of 4.

I think you can only really try to use this on a big timeframe, because the problem is, you won't be able to identify the patterns until most of it has played out. If the pattern is only a quarter of the way through or a third of the way through, how can you possibly identify what kind of pattern it is? Can one pattern not suddenly morph into another upon some big news or other deviated price action? Of course it's easy to recognise the patterns once they're well on the way to completion.

Elliott wave works but you have to use it in context of the fundamentals and sentiment of the market in my opinion. Like any technical analysis, I don’t believe it works in a vacuum. But it is also 100% false that Elliott doesn’t work. I don’t waste time hyper analyzing and labeling every single move on a chart. Instead, You just have to develop a very good visual ability to recognize ends of trends and ends of corrections. They will jump out at you . If you can do that in addition to learning just the basic Elliott rules and patterns and know what the sentiment and fundamentals are, you will be successful. Looking at multiple time frames is important too to know where the larger trend is. People that say Elliott doesn’t work or think it’s to confusing, Haven’t taken the time to learn it.

Sir, What works better in spread trading usa indices--mean reversion or trading strength & doing exactly opposite?.My impression is that 3 period RSI is best indicator for trend strength(above 60) & if you can have RSI 3, 7 RSI7,and RSI 14, in one panel & and these all confirm trend, then trade is ready to go for momentum trade. If RSI 3, RSI 7 are both above 60 & RSI 14 is rising(but still below 50)--that also confirms the trade. On larger time frames(1h, 2h,4h, daily) even 2 period RSI gives good countertrend trades. For MTF trading combining 15m,1h,4h periods each with RSI 3 above 60 is good as well. Stochastics shows what is going on inside brains of market participants & RSI shows what they are doing with their pocket $$ presently.
